Community Spotlight : Nosferatu_Soldie
Posted by KPaul at 1/16/2007 10:04 AM PST
The Community Spotlight returns with a vengeance this week as we talk to Nosferatu_Soldie, one of the Master Moderators on Bungie.net. Herein we learn a bunch of generic facts, but with the added bonus of cute puppy pix.<KP> Hey.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Afternoon.
<KP> Feel like doing this thing?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Sure, give me a minute first
<KP> Fine, go put your face on, Nancy.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Need to let the puppy out
<KP> I demand pictures of this puppy.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I'll have to find my digital camera, but I can take one.
<KP> Excellent. Actually, let’s postpone this 20 minutes. Staten and I have to move our desks.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Que?
<KP> We were moved back about six feet for the remodel, which is done, so we have to move them back. But we get bonus furniture for our patience, according to Alta. bbl.
*45 minutes later*
<KP> omg. The writing pod is swank now. Matching 80s leather couch from the original bungie Chicago office and chair, more room and a table that Robt. can draw lewd pictures on. And a Flood Wombat unit.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Oh yeah? Well... I just got a new keyboard and it's backlit, so ha!
<KP> We have tiny backlit keyboards... attached to our Xenons... running Halo 3.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> bentllama has used that one on me far too many times, it no longer affects me.
<KP> Yeah, he's like that. Moving on, who are you, what do you do in your not-free-time?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> My name is Michael Gorman, but most of you know me as Nos or Pfhor. I spent most of my not-free-time doing school work and attending class.
<KP> What kind of classes, what's your major?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Well, my major is computer science, but this semester I'm only taking one CS class.
<KP> What do you want to do with a CS degree?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I've always wanted to work in the video game industry, so I'm hoping to do that. If not, I wouldn't mind working for some other kind of software company.
<KP> Very cool. So what are your responsibilities on Bungie.net?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I'm mostly charged with keeping the forums clean, but I can also accept/reject news for the front page. I also spend a good deal of my time on Bungie.net working on my chapter.
<KP> What's your chapter?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> My chapter is Teh 1337ists. The name is a very long story, but it goes back to the fact that people used to call Yoozel and I elitists all of the time, and he co-founded the chapter with me. It's really just a joke (the name, not the chapter).
<KP> Your face is the joke.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I've heard the same about yours.
<KP> Aw snap dawg. Don't worry, I'll edit out your lametacity (haha lies, look how lame he is!).
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Actually, people say that my face reminds them of The King from the Burger King commercials when I smile, so I suppose that's kind of a joke.
<KP> Don't be surprised when you're asked to appear in an episode of Law and Order: SVU, then. So, we know what you do for a living, what about free time, how do you spend that?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I spend a lot of my free time on World of Warcraft. I'm also in a video game music cover band, so I spend a good deal of time playing guitar and keyboard every day. Other than that I spend a lot of time doing mods for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
<KP> Bant.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Hey, if you guys had a level editor for Halo 2 I would be doing that, but you don't.
<KP> Soon.™ You know, on second thought, this desk move might not have been such a great deal. There's an air vent blowing air up my pants. It's not terribly comfortable.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Is it cold air?
<KP> Yes, the AC is on in here at all times. SOMEONE doesn't seem to realize that the server room is in the server room, not the main space. We don't all need to be kept at 55 degrees. But anyhoo, what is the most difficult part of being a moderator?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Probably dealing with the people that get permanently banned from the forums, they're never too happy. Other than that I don't find it too terribly difficult of a task.
<KP> Have you ever been blacklisted from Bnet?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Nope, although I did get scolded by Stosh once. I think I still have the PM. Nope, it''s gone.
<KP> Really? stosh has emotions? What'd you do?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> I don't remember, that's why I was looking for the PM. It was probably for asking to have my username fixed so many times.
<KP> I don’t blame you, there is a fair amount of nubbery implied in that hacked off character.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Even then, it's far too long a name. I personally prefer my WoW handle of Pfhor. The trouble with that is nobody can spell it. Even Bentllama calls me Phfor or pfwhore.
<KP> A common error, I'm sure.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Very.
<KP> What got you involved with the Bungie community to begin with?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Well, back before I had a computer my mom, who is a teacher, would always bring a Mac home from the school for the summer. That's when I played my first Bungie game, which was Marathon Infinity. Several years later, after Halo came out, I decided to start posting on the Bungie.net boards and become involved in the community.
<KP> I had time to get up, wash my hands of the smell of the floor and get a soda while you typed that. Sucka. So, is the community what keeps you coming back, then?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Most definitely. I have met loads of people on the Bungie.net forums and through chapters that I would never have had the privilege of meeting if I wasn't an active member of the community.
<KP> How much longer do you think that'll compel you to keep coming back?
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Honestly, I'll probably keep coming back as long as I have the time to do so. Bungie has been a big part of my life for far too long to just up and quit on the community.
<KP> Good response. Oh swetz, new youtube vids of the alpha just leaked. You ready to do some banning? Jeremiah just got one.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Oh boy, I was planning on going to wait in line for the Warcraft expansion after this interview.
<KP> Too bad. Answer the call.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Maybe I'll ban some people beforehand.
<KP> That’s the spirit. Alright, we're done here.
<Nosferatu_Soldie> Alrightie, time to deal out the bans.
This community spotlight was deleted and may not be found in any previous news articles on Bungie.net. Therefore, I thought I would post the interview here to bring back some old memories and allow Bungie.net members to use this thread for discussion.
