a) Your link's dead.
b) It's been made pretty clear in the past that H1 would never likely come to XBL by Bungie's hand.
c) If you're gonna port the damn thing over Xbox Live, it is pretty safe to assume that it'll have internet multiplayer.

So it is!

Here it is copied off the site before it went down...

The Fall Xbox 360 dashboard update has been revealed to our colleagues at OXM from Microsoft and it's looking very good indeed with gaming classics and films on demand.

December 4 is the date you'll need to watch out for; that's the day you'll be able to download and play Halo. Yes, Halo as in the Xbox game, through Marketplace, on your Xbox 360.

Microsoft is introducing games it has published for the original Xbox on XBL Marketplace, with the eventual plan to bring as much of the back catalogue across as possible.

Games cost about 1200 Microsoft points (about ten quid), which according to us puts them a little over what you'd pay for them second hand.

The initial list of downloads includes Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex and Burnout 3. All good then, apart from maybe Crash.

And if that wasn't enough, films on demand, though not confirmed for the December 4 date, aren't far away. Studios such as Warner Bros are potentially lined up for the service, so we can look forward to films such as The Dark Knight, The Assassination of Jesse James and I Am Legend appearing eventually.

Films will cost less than a fiver and come in 720p resolution. You have 14 days to start watching a film once it has downloaded. Once you started watching a film, you have 24 hours to finish it. After that, the film deletes itself from your hard drive. It's basically an online rental service then, like the US Video Marketplace.

What do these new additions mean for the future of Xbox Live Arcade? Does the PS3's PSOne download service now look horribly dated? It's going to be an exciting 2008 in the download space, for sure.

Cogito Ergo Sum

Do we get to play the entire game? That's weird....

This was also confirmed over at the Acheivement Junkie Web site blog:

No word on whether Halo would include multiplayer or acheivements or anything new.

Sigs just aren't what they used to be.

Interesting. I wonder if we'll still have the ability to three shot people with the pistol from across the map.

The question isn't if it's true or not, it's whether we'll be able to play multiplayer over Live!

(please be yes, please be yes, please be yes...)

So do we have to buy Halo 1 all over again, or if we still have it for Xbox, will that work? I think it's crap if I gotta buy the same damn game again.

You will have to buy it, Halo CE disk doent work in the 360 so there is no way to tell if you own it already
Plus, even if it was readable, people would just go out and rent Halo CE to get it on XBL for free.

  • 11.13.2007 8:57 AM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I am 99% sure it will not have online MP. It's like an XBLA title, just bigger. They're just going to add achievements, not make a sweeping overhaul of the MP, which from my understanding is what would be necessary to get it to work over XBL.

Well they have to do something to rebuy xbox origonal games. Achievements, is a must. I would think Multilayer on Halo:CE would be a must too. For Halo 2 achievments, no burn in of maps, and making Backwash playable

I really hope that Xbox Live will be enabled for this game. The nostalgia would be unreal. The community would come alive once again and the competition would thrive. I know dozens of people who still lan halo1. I just hope this game has live enabled. *crosses fingers* Please bungie surprise us this christmas!

No.

I don't know anything about whether or not achievements are included. I don't know about how Live-aware this release will be. I do know that multiplayer will be LAN-only, just as the boxed version is.

Okay. How about if I tell you that I know, for a fact, that Xbox Live networking will not be part of this release? Will you stop coming up with scenarios about how it might happen, then?

Because I do. And it won't.

Haha. It never fails that one person will speak up before they know what they're talking about. The most important thing to remember is that money speaks louder than words. But I hope you're right about assuming the multiplayer part will be included. How long have people been asking for this?

Microsoft and Bungie would be total butt munches if they released the single player game only. Why would I waste my time downloading it on xboxlive when I can literally buy the original for 10 bucks (new) from the store. I'm totally going to be calling them out if they don't include multiplayer. But I'll hold my rants until more official news is available.

It's a small price to pay for people who have been waiting over ten years to play this online with friends. That's if it even includes multiplayer.

Eh? On what points am I wrong? Bungie isn't doing the port, Microsoft is.

Like I said, it'd be a dumb move to release it without MP.

Wait, doesn't Halo CE work for the 360? I don't even have an xbox anymore and when I played halo on my 360, it worked fine. I don't see why we have to buy it again.

I read today, here: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175527 that Halo Combat Evolved is coming to 360 over XBLA, which is good news, but what would be even better news would be if the multiplayer was playable over Live... anybody out there know or care?
