Subject: The forum sucks.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Why not have personal avatars for members...

I enjoy our current limitations of in-game symbols and armor permutations (though I think the latter are disgustingly overused). They still have the personal feeling, but they humble you at the same time.

As soon as I saw the ads, that's what made me like Bungie.net more. Notice how this entire site is ad-free? There aren't many others like that, and I'm glad to see it stay like that.

Delphi makes their money from the ads, Bungie makes theirs through game and merchendise sales, they don't have to put the ads in, or they could put cool Halo stuff ads on it.

Because your tears are sweet, like candy.

Seriously, the site was built to maximise efficiency in delivery; it has to be with a million active accounts. I know that things are always under development, though, so if you have any CONSTRUCTIVE suggestions (not whines) feel free to constribute.

-- Steve'll note that he moved this from the Underground (which is for old-school games and Bungie lore) to the Bungie.net Community forum.

Why not have personal avatars for members yes Halo 3 is nice but just say animations and pictures. Dont tell me u guys cant many clan forms have them even larger ones that are in the thousands.

Pssst. He said millions of members. That is more than if a thousand sites, each with a thousand members all got together. Millions man, millions.

Custom member supplied-controlled avatars just isn't going to happen. I for one, am glad. Most forums that allow unrestricted avatars are eyesores IMO. Unrestricted sigs, a thousand times so.

Recon they use for those thousand menber clan sites older tech. with bungie being a huge company in all could afford it plus what do we have ninjas like u for to watch for bad slander on sigs so avatars are just one more thing come one Ninjas jobs are seem laid back. And would even still.

I respectfully disagree with your post in its entirety.

Foman, the Sam Kinison of B.net.

Mopar, I like the idea of once we post, taking us back to where we left off. But the email notification idea I hate. Every forum I've joined with the email notification, I have turned off immediately. If I want to see if someone responded to my thread or post, I will go look at it. I don't want to be spammed with tons of emails throughout the day telling me of each and every response.

Yah, but using Delphi, you don't really get the "personal" feel on your site. You get a huge Delphi side bar and top bar. Kinda annoying and tacky if you ask me. With this site, it's less cluttered, and faster and more efficient during high traffic. You could have 1,000 people on a Delphi and V-Bulletin and it would crash. But here, we can get over 10,000+ people and it would just be a little slower and not crash.

Do you own stock in Delphi Mopar? Cause it seems like this thread is more about giving this site a free plug than discussing your complaints about B.net.

I know this is a .net site, I didn't say Bungie had to make an exact copy of Delphi, only that they could use some of their ideas.
For example: A narrow column on the side that lists the discussions, when you click a discussion, it shows in the larger column, so that after you run through a bunch of pages and want to go to another thread, you just go back to the list on the side. As it is, if you've gone though the list of discussions10 pages, then read a thread, you have to either hit the back button 'till you get back to where you were, or go back to the top of the list and work your way down again.

That could be avoided by simply opening the thread in a new window, but right click-open in a new window-right click-open in a new window-right click-open in a new window-right click-open in a new window-right click-open in a new window- that would get old fast, this site would be a whole lot better if the discussion and reply liknks would just open in a new window.

If you want to read all the way through a thread before replying to make sure you aren't repeating someone else, go ahead, I'm sure you'll see lots of repeating while you're doing it, some of us may want to put our two cents in even if it has been said allready, and if it has, we're just agreeing with the person who beat us to it.

This may get me permanantly banned from getting the recon armor, like I care, but Bungie, your forum sucks. I don't even know where to begin, how about the fact that when you post a reply it takes you to the end of the thread where you posted? I don't want to read my post, I just wrote it, I know what it says, I want to continue reading where I left off, I post, then I have to go back and find where I left off. How about message notification? How about a link in the reply that takes you back to the last message in case you need to review what was said? Seriously man, go here and get some pointers, I could go on and on. How is it that you can make such a fantastic series of games, but can't make a decent forum?
If you don't like this forum, that's fine and I respect your opinion. However, there are many other forums which you may go to and post in. There is absolutely no reason to come here to the forum, which you say sucks and tell others who will most likely disagree with you. I see that you pointed out a few things, but every forum has its ups and downs. If you don't like it, tough. We are not restricting you from posting in other forums as well, are we?

Bungie.net is a means of communication and discussion along with other ideal features associated with their games. Unless you have something to say that would be beneficial for discussion or suggestions on how we could improve our site, your complaint is irrelevant. Think before you post and try to be constructive, using more supportive statements and better subject descriptions of your topic. This is Bungie.net... here you have no rights. Play nice.

Bungie can use the ideas to build it any way they like, again, not saying it should be an exact copy.

Do we need this place that intricate and complex? I mean, the place is already smooth. And is reading a little extra to find where you left off that big of a deal? I usually remember the page I'm on at least. And if you're replying to a post on page 2, out of a 100 page topic, that's kinda stupid. Keep up in the current discussion. It's better for the topic.

But why add stuff when this place is already more smooth an efficient then Delphi? Seriously, why should it be changed in the first place?
There are sooo many other halo community sites out there besides Bungie.net. Why not go to another instead of bashing this one?
Again, this place is made to handle bigger loads of members where Delphi is more for small communities (compared to b.net).

Delphi IMAO, is the easiest to use forum on the internet, I'm offering it as an example of how to improve this one, I find it cumbersom(Is that right? Spell check would be nice too.), if you have suggestions, or another site that you like, throw them out here.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

I actually prefer that it opens in the same tab/window when you click on a thread. It helps me to keep organized. I do choose to right-click, then open a new tab most of the time, but sometimes I don't. This way, Bungie gives us a choice on which way we like it, rather than force it one way. You see, just because you think the forum sucks, doesn't mean everyone else does, too. So, maybe you should consider that the next time you make a broad generalization like that.

I never was very diplomatic, and I don't like the site, I do like the content, and there's no place else to get it, so I'm stuck with it aren't I? While I may have all the subtlety of a sledge hammer, asking for features that would mke this site more user friendly is constructive, and unless I missed something, YOU are a member here just like I am, you talk like you own the place.

Learn to love what you have available. If you want spellcheck abilities you can download a small little utility called TinySpell. I think these forums are fine. If you have any suggestions of how to change these forums then describe them in detail. Just don't say "Delphi Forums are better." What are some of the qualities that make their forums superior technically. Not just by preference, no one forum can fit everyones pants.

You say that these forums are inefficient? Well the point of these forums are for precise, qualitive answers to topics. The structure of the forums presents the user with a top-down orientation. You read from the top of the thread down and then to the next page if applicable. This way you can absorb all varying points to the original posters argument or statement.

I'm sure different members have cooked up different methods of keeping track of varying arguments in a thread. Recon prefers the copy/past method. I used this method until I decided to download IE7 and use the multiple tab feature to keep track of different points in a thread. You just have to find a method that works for you.

Personally, this is the most pleasant structure to any forum I've used. There are no abstract methods of navigating, soothing colors to contrast text and background. These forums work perfectly for their intended design. That design is to provide a catalyst to qualitive posting.

My friends from my old clan did use Delphi. I have an inactive account there. This is much better. I coped, didn't -blam!- about the place, then got bored and left. This place feels far more superior than Delphi. Oh, and you still don't have anything to say about the hight traffic issue? Pitty.

I haven't answered that question because it doesn't make any sense, how would incorporating a few features change the capacity of Bungie? And what makes you think Delphi's system can't handle the volume?

A few features can be a long list to order. I don't know if you have any experience in coding or the such, but, you can't just go in and change things you don't like. The more you change, the more you're likely to mess up. The web team is extremely good at what they do, but, changes take time. They take time because you have to plan everything out, put it into action, test it, debug it, and release it. On top of all of that you hope that you don't make a mistake because you will end up paying for it.

From what I see, you keep insisting that Delphi is in a way superior to our Ideal Science software. But, from what I saw in my experience with Delphi, it's made for communities much smaller than Bungie.net.
And we do add some features on occasion. But it's for the sake of simplicity and for not crashing. The more complicated the coding is, the more delicate and vulnerable it can be during high traffic like we get.
It's not worth putting in all of these fancy tabs and redirecting us back to where we left off. It's silly. Since 2004 we've used this system with no complaint. It runs smoothly and is perfect to our needs.

I find your OP pure whining because you are just too lazy to click on the page number and scroll down some.

I remember when Achronos was telling us about some new simple features that where gonna be added like bookmarks? Well, he was telling us about that for months. That's how long it takes to put this stuff in. Even with the help of Ideal Science.
