Hey guys, I'm writing some novels for fun right now. I don't have much but tell me what you think, any advice/critism? Which ones do you like best? Do you think the one below is abit of a rant? Or is it good and descriptive.

Chapter-1
Peering out of the porthole in the UNSC cruiser the Potomac, I watch the various UNSC ships float around in the quiet mellow blackness of space. I stared at Earth, awed at it's beauty, white pristine clouds hovered over magnificent sapphire oceans. It was peaceful and comforting to say the lease, warmth vibrated throughout me and I felt a brief moment of harmony in a Universe torn from war. Earth, humanity's last sancutary against the onslaught of a congregation of Alien races known as the Covenant. Orbital Super MAC gun platforms rotated around Earth, they were supported by the whole of the UNSC fleet, who were mustered from any surviving colonies and planets. Sighing, I tore myself from the window and turned my attention towards the television attached to the ceiling.

Chapter-1
I peered out of the bay of the Pelican. They were flying towards a Palace of some sort to reinforce the embattled Marines already fighting there.
"Ok Marines, lock and load and get ready for a hot LZ. The Covenant is holding a party down there and your all invited!" I shouted
The Marines cheered. A grin formed over my mouth. It was time to teach those Covie bastards why they don't mess with Earth's finest.
"ETA 1 minute" relayed the Pilot over the COM
I loaded my Rifle and cocked it with a satisfying *clank*.
A sudden blue explosion sent me flying out of my seat. My helmet fell off and started to roll out of the bay. I lunged at it and managed to grab onto it by the chin strap.
"Encountering heavy AA fire-" the pilot's sentance was cut off as another explosion rocked the Pelican
The pelican started to bolt towards the ground. I was again slammed into the wall. Awwww that had hurt. My hand reached over to the Cockpit door. A blast of wind blasted over my body, I struggled to enter the cockpit. The pilot and co-pilot were dead, plasma burns all over their bodies.
I picked up the radio amd tuned it so that any Marine forces nearby would hear.
"This is Beta-2-16 any UNSC forces copy? We are going down, I repeat we are going down mayday mayday"
My eyes darted towards the various instruments, the altitude was 500 meters and closing.
"Marines, strap i-" I suddenly blacked out as the Pelican connected with concrete and my head was slammed against the bulkhead.
