Here's to hoping this doesn't become a complete shambles...
All right lads (and the one or two ladies amongst us). The whole mods vs. members rivalry has inspired me to hold a Halo 3 league for the Community forum. Essentially, it will be a 2v2 table league (it's much easier to arrange games with only 4 players). I decided to have a league over a tournament for a few reasons. Firstly, I don't want to halt proceedings because one team is struggling to play their games. Secondly, I don't want teams to play one game, lose, and be knocked out of the proceedings. This should be an ongoing, enjoyable ladder.
I'm not quite sure what I'm getting myself into here. It all seems pretty damn complicated so please bear with me. If this doesn't work out how I planned, I will lock this.
> WALL O' TEXT
There is a lot of information below. It is recommended that you read it. If you are really lazy, just skip to the "Sign-Up", "Maps", "Games" and "Rules" part. You should be able to piece everything else together on your own.
> FORMAT
8 teams per league. That's 16 teams, and 32 players in total. Teams that fail to play will be replaced with another. I'll decide on a cut-off date for sign ups, but teams will be chosen and entered randomly.
There are two leagues. The top league (League One) and the bottom league (League Two). Teams will be placed randomly into the leagues to begin with so don't worry about being in League Two during the first season.
In each "Season", each team will play all other teams in their league (7 arranged meetings). Then the final results will be tallied and promotions and relegations will take place.
After the 1st "Season" is over, the top 4 teams in League Two will be promoted into League One. Likewise, the bottom 4 teams in League One will be demoted to League Two. This is to ensure that each team will compete with teams of similar skill. It also gives everyone something to strive for.
In the 2nd "Season" and all subsequent seasons, only 2 teams from each league will be switched, as opposed to the 4 of the previous season.
> GAMES
Each game will have 3 points up for grabs. In each arranged game, you will play 2 games of Team Slayer. If you win both games, you earn 3 points. If each team wins one game, you recieve 1 point. If you lose both games, you recieve 0 points.
Set a simple time for you and your opponents to meet. Report the result of your arranged game to me via PM (with a link to the gameviewer if possible). I will add the results to the table.
> SIGN-UPS
To sign-up, simply reply to this thread or PM me. Give your team a name. Preferably a name that doesn't exceed 8 characters. State the Bungie.net log-ins and gamertags you are signing up. That's all there is to it.
I will give members until the 17th of November to sign up. It will be extended if 16 teams haven't signed up by then. If all goes according to plan, on the 17th, I will randomly select teams and place them into the two leagues. If you are not chosen immediately, please
> MAPS
I decided to use 5 maps for this tournament. Guardian, Isolation, Snowbound, Narrows and Construct. I have forged map variants of these 5 to downplay camping and offer more counters to the power weapons. This involves a few tweaks to weapon respawn time and placement. They are still quite familiar and playable without knowing all the changes, although it is advised to have a quick look around before playing.
I have posted a list of changes if you don't have time to take a look (along with reasons why these changes were made). Here is a link to my fileshare. Please scroll down to the bottom and select the "7th" map variants. Ignore the top of my fileshare if you have no interest in it. All games must be played with these map variants to ensure fairplay and consistency.
> RULES
The gametype is also in my fileshare. However, it is very easy to make. Everything is default Team Slayer. However, there is a time limit of 15 minutes, and there is no radar (to make camping harder).
> REWARDS
I'm not sure what could be given as a reward other than having your name in some form of "Hall of Fame" for coming first.
> FINAL THOUGHTS
Comments and suggestions welcome. This may need a few tweaks but hopefully it should be fun if everything works properly.
