Only Becausae I'm Awesome

Forum Tutorials --- WATCH THEM AND LEARN

Ok, i'd like to see you build a forum, get around 500,000 people joined, have it well maintained (i.e. no spam, racism, word wars, etc...), and have about zero point many zero's one (0.00...01) percent of them complain about something that you probably wouldn't even use that much.

Do you know how much bandwidth it would take to scan through 1,500,000 posts? Not to mention how much time that would take. Then multiply that by the 50,000 people who would be searching for things that would've come up at least 10,000 times by now.

So either Quit your -blam!-in, or go somewhere else. It's comeing, just wait.

At this point, I guess you really only have two choices:
1) leave the site, maybe then these "terrible forums" will not intrude on the rest of your all-important life.
2) Keep going at this pace and get banned, but then you don't have the choice of coming back and being a respectable, intelligent user.

Write a forum that can handle 500,000 users with a search feature, then, if it's so simple.

I think the bigger issue at hand is the lack of respect a lot of users have when posting on these forums.

The software is currently lacking in features, truthfully, but it's not something to have a cow over. Try bookmarks.

i have to agree and disagree. you're a douche (i'd call you teh n-word, but i hear that's grounds for banning in these parts) for even saying that. they are a bit archaic. but it's more than downloading an open source copy of vbcode or php. you don't just toss a search bar in. there's a lot more to it than that. to tell the writers of this forum to die though, that's just immature (again, perfect time for teh n-word. could someone get back to me on the rules regarding this? i know i signed i frequent a halo-related message board that doesn't allow that word, but i can't remember which one it is). honestly, if it's that upsetting, there are so many other forums for halo you could hit up, it really wasn't even worth this thread.

though i do not like the cut of your jib one bit, i will help you. common sense will prevail, and you might have figured this out already, but i have my doubts. simple solution. bookmark the important threads. it sounds messy, but it's really not. in my bookmark menu, there's a halo folder, with a bungie sub-folder. in that subfolder are a few important threads. in fact, when i'm done with this post, i'll add this to enjoy reading the replies. there doesn't have to be that many url's saved either. 90% of teh threads on here are asking how to get the bungie.net logo behind your username on xbox live. you should have figured that out by now. if not, you are the n-word that i might or might not be able to say. the other 10% are important threads. now approximately 7% of these threads are so important that they are stickied. by nature of the design, you can't lose these. so no worries there. the other 3% are one's you'll have to bookmark. but only a fraction of those will actually have your involvement. so it probably won't even be a full 3%. see, that's not so bad is it.?

EDIT: it has come to my attention by my nosy room mate who was reading over my shoulder that some of you may mistake my usage of the n-word with another one that could be deemed as a racial slur. i'm talking about the word that starts with n and ends in b. usually has two zeros in the middle, but that's only if you're uber1337. just wanted to clarify. thanks.

We didnt ask you for your opinion!

Generally speaking, no one is specifically asked to post on a forum, and these forums are here FOR posting opinions.

And for some reason, I tried bookmarking a site, and when I tried to go back, the forum wasn't there. :P Are old and unused forums automatically deleted?

Officium quod Fidelitas.

Sometimes Bungie.net messes up and a forum will disappear for awhile, it will usually come back within a few hours..

whoa! you didn't put in sarcastic tags. you know, the [/sarcasm]. is "douche" now to be referred to as the "D-word"? or is that word acceptable?

also, is this the forum that doesn't allow the n-word?

and goweb, as soon as we work out this sarcasm issue, i think you and i will be good friends, seeing as how we both are ninjas. and can i change my tag to some sort of ninja-related phrase? like sepuku master? or is that an administrative privelege only?

now for more poetic justice/irony. all my talk about finding threads through bookmarks was ironic. i made that post from home and bookmarked it on my home computer. i logged on from work, went into the septagon, and sure enough, this thread was there! haha. bungi3 tru7h p0wnzr3d me.

as for the disapearing threads, could be someone deleted teh thread. or it could be that it was archived and the URL changed. or it could be a time sync issue on the server like my own site that i work on has. dissapearing threads, fluctuating post counts, time's all wrong. it's all one big headache. i feel your pain bungie. and then people have the audacity to b-word about how the forums suck. remember folks, when you cut, teh forum ninja and the rest of the administrative staff bleeds. they have feelings too, just like me and you.
