What were some of the moments when playing Halo that you realised you were playing something special, more than just an another FPS?

For me, although I was left dazzled by the firefights and battles in the Halo level after the second checkpoint, when all the Dropships started landing around the installation and you had to protect the remaining survivors, it was probably when I was in Silent Cartographer and had the Warthog. I was about to try and gain access to the Control Room and for some reason decided to stay in the Warthog and see how far it could go into the building, as it's just something I like to try when using vehicles in games when you're mainly based on foot. And I was amazed I could even get it inside let alone go down the corridors and mash up the Covenant before they lock the doors. I knew for sure then I was playing something really special.

As soon as I started playing the game I loved it. The assault rifle, the way the action never stops. I think the most amazing part about Halo when it was new was co-op in the wart hog.

does it have 2 be from halo? this is from halo 2.....anyway. my second time i fought a hunter , the first time i was in a turrent so it was nothing special.
but the next time all i had was an smg, with hardly any ammo left, i got a carbine, and 3 plasma grenades, i was so zoned i took them out without thinking. it was amazing.
