whats the point of putting something on the xbox live marketplace if u cant play on xbox live microsoft ????

So, I have a Wii. I can go on the system and download classic Nintendo games.
WTF! No Wii-mote support?? What's the point in releasing classic Nintendo games if they are not updated to use the wii-mote?

Oh yeah, to allow me to play some of the classic games again. Good enough. Oh, and wonder of wonders, if I don't want to buy a classic game, I don't have to.

maybe because most game cartridges dont work anymore and if the game cartridges work the old game systems usually dont making it hard to be able to play those old games. halo 1 is still sold used a lot and it works on the 360 already and its easy to get a halo 1 disk old nintendo games arent the easiest to get

Halo 1 will be avalible in the marketplace?!

ya but it is no different than the disk there is no XBL or achievments so basicly it just takes up memory and cost more than a disk

i dont understand their logic y would you release the exact same thing that you can get cheaper somewhere else and save memory on your hard drive

I suspect you don't understand a lot of things. Doesn't make those things pointless or invalid.

what is so logical about spending money on not having to put you halo disk into your xbox

  • 11.15.2007 9:58 AM PDT

Shopping Bags

I already have it on disc and the multiplayer on the first Halo is at its best in a LAN party,it would lose something if it was online.

y would it lose something if it was online??? another thing i want is to be able to connect 16 xboxs together instead of only 4 because i have friends who for some odd reason it is like the end of the world if they have to split 2 way which is y they refuse to have halo 1 xbox parties anymore

No.

But if it DID have XBL multiplayer, I'd pay any amount of money for it. 50$, even.

  • 11.15.2007 10:04 AM PDT

OMG, why would MS do this??? Um, to make money!! It's about convenience and instant gratification. Something our society has grown used to. You can sit your lazy ass in front of the TV, scroll through the list of titles and download something you want to play. Is it a bad idea, NO. Some people don't want to take 20 minutes and go out to find a classic title. Now they can start the download, take a crap and come back and play it. You may even see a game on the list you want to play while browsing them and figure why not, I'll pay 12 bucks for it or whatever.

Oh and there is not going to be Achievements or Live play. They will not rewrite code for the classic titles just to give you these things. If you don't want it, don't buy it but a lot of people will. Think of how many new to Halo H3 players will be like, "What is this Halo CE I hear everyone talking about?" I gots to try me some of that!

They're just posting backwards compat games for download, there's nothing new or added about them. It's for people who don't own an original Xbox, don't want to go looking for a used game, or can't easily get a good copy. Hey, it was a smash hit with the WII.

If you want to play Halo CE online, plug your controller into a PC with the Windows version of it, play over XBL connect, or play Halo 3. The graphics are better there :-)

Get over it and please stop trying to demand more.

You're a lousy consumer.

No you're a lousy consumer for believing that this product should cater to your desire when it is clearly not meatn for your consumption. Microsoft knows exactly who they are marketing this to and it's not poeople who already have the game, people who buy games for achievements, people who like to search EBGames for used games or people who are looking for a whole new gaming experience from a 6 year old game they've already played.

The game is available on Live for the sake of convenience.
1. Why drive down to EBGames to save $7.00 (or $6.44 after taxes?)
My time is move valuable than that.

2. Why deal with the possibility of scratched disks?
If I buy the game on Live with my Gold account, the game is always available to me.

3. Why worry about drive space?
I can delete the game today and download it again for free tomorrow if I've already paid for it.

4. Why sell the game on Live at all?
Some people still buy Halo CE, now Microsoft can make the money directly.
No manufacturing or distribution costs and the consumer gets a simple and convenient buying experience.

If you are not happy about the way this game is being released, then Microsoft is clearly not attempting to sell this game to you.

its so retarded, why the -blam!- would they release it again if 90% of xbox owners already have the game.
PUT XBOX LIVE CAPABILITIES ON HALO 1!!!!!!

Idea of a Halo:CE port onto the 360 = Good idea

Idea of not even bothering to put basic Achievements in = Extremely bad idea

Wow, Microsot get -10 cool points for that.

It would take waaaay more effort to put achievements into a back compat game - for one, it would have to be completely re-written as a 360 title. I'm glad this feature exists for those who want to use it, even thought I probably never will.

  • 11.15.2007 10:10 AM PDT

No, not much reason too. I still my original copy and it is working fine. Plus lots of stores still sell halo for $10-$15 so I think I would want the disk instead since there is no risk of the media crashing or dying just sitting in a case.

edit - listen to the ign podcast this week about the 360. They have a phone interview with an xbox team member about halo:ce and xbox live and lots of other things. They aren't messing with the game code in anyway. So what ever features the games had at the time is what they will have. This is just a new method of distribution for these particular games instead of buying the disk you can just have it on your HDD ready to go whenever, no need to get off the couch and change the disk.

Not to be an ass but where did you get this statistic from? I am sure MS has more resources to determine the profitability, target market and projected income possibilities of this than you sitting there saying it's dumb if you can't Live it. MS may be full of crap sometimes but they know how to make money. Especially when they are trying to find a way to make Live and the 360 profitable.

It's not worth it without LIVE multiplayer in my opinion.

I'll just stick to playing my copy of Halo: CE that I already own.

I don't plan on buying it at all, actually. I think it's a nifty idea, puting Xbox 1 games on the arcade, but if nothing new is going to be added to the game...why would I bother? Online multiplayer would be sweet, but that would require more time and work put into a game from 2001. It would take longer to release and I bet we'd have to pay more than 1,200 MS points for it. Not to mention there aren't going to be any achievements added. As much as I like Halo 1, I'm not going to pay $15 for it with nothing new added. Besides, it would waste HDD space.

Then again, I bought Halo 1, brand new, for $10. So if I want to play Halo 1, I'll just pop in the disc.

I will NOT buy Halo 1 if it isnt XBL compatible.

If they do make it with XBL, then I hope and pray that you will be able to choose game type (FFA, teams, CTF, etc) and map by user. That is the No. 1 thing I absolutely hate about Halo 3, you cant choose game type and map. It is chosen for you.

Look, the point here is that you aren't the only people who own xboxes, and there are PLEANTY of people out there who never bought a version 1 box. Just because your EB or gamestop has the game in stock doesn't mean that either its A: a good clean copy, or B: that some other stores in the world have them in stock. Take a look at Halo's release data... I'm sure that all the places that H3 was released is WELL over and above all of the places in the world H1 was released. (Un-confirmed, complete speculation on my part.) XBL Marketplace is available to more than just the USA, and sometimes people want something more reliable than a used game.

For the number of you that are complaining about this... here's some food for thought. Do you still have your H1 copy? Is it in mint condition? What's cheaper for Microsoft to do? Continue to press copies of an outdated title, or make it available for digital download? This is the same thing ID software did with the DOOM series for the PC. They kept re-releasing the stuff in bundles on the internet as more and more people my age got into a nostalgic period of their lives.

  • 11.15.2007 10:57 AM PDT

like the first reply says, if the game had achievements Id re buy it in a second, as it stands will hold on to my superior copy of halo.....

Like previously stated they would have to rewrite the code so it would work on 360 for achievments and live...and for that they may aswell update graphics and game engine, update weapons and give me equipment like in the books...oh wait thats H3.
Besides Halo CE online was fun on XBC but still lacked H2's polish...I'll pay my stupid M$ points yes I'll foolishly throw money at Bungie and M$ cause they are just so super rocking awesome. You'll be playing this game with your children someday the way your parents put you on to star wars.
