Subject: Halo 1 DLC??

I heard about this too, it seems like it will be released soon, why weren't we given notice of it? Did anyone at Bungie work on the down-loadable version, or was it all contracted out?

So now I'm a beta tester. Let's see where this goes.

Microsoft owns the Halo IP. I don't think Bungie has a whole lot of say in this matter. But if I'm wrong and they do have a whole lot say, then they probably aren't going to say much considering they haven't said anything yet.

this is pretty kick ass news if you think about it, yet it hasn't really been publicized. I'd say definitely there has to be online multiplayer. Pretty much all live arcade games have some MP and they are usually pretty basic, I wouldn't expect matchmaking, but perhaps leader boards. Maybe M$ strips it down and doesn't include online, but to me that wouldn't make much sense because a lot of people still have their Halo 1 discs and probably wouldn't care to pay 15 dollars to replay the campaign mode. To me the idea of playing team slayer on Chill Out sounds infinitely appealing and well worth 15 dollars to any player. sounds almost like a gift. i'll feel 6 years younger...

I am extremely excited for this also, but there is one thing I am worried about. Like most of us I still have a love playing Halo 1, but as you all have probably noticed, the halo 1 emulation on Xbox 360 is very bad. The game's framerate drops considerably during campaign. (AOTCR especially) And this made me stop playing Halo 1 on 360 because for many parts of the solo game the game would become unplayable.

If this downloadable version of Halo 1 isn't somehow optimised to play on the Xbox 360, I will not even consider buying it.

But, if this game does play well on 360, I hope they include some form of online play.
But I don't really expect them to add anything, basically I believe this will be like Halo, only ripped to you're HDD.

  • 11.13.2007 9:43 PM PDT

I'm guessing it will at least be optimized for HD, and also the emulation won't suck, but as far as online play goes...we can hope.

  • 11.14.2007 12:45 AM PDT

What bungie should do, but mostlikely won't is...

Make Halo 1 online, make it so it's only custom games, but you can still search by the settings you want and pick the host. Then see what maps the PLAYERS like most and put them on halo 3. Not the half ass hangem high remake type. The EXACT map only with better graphics.

If they'd strip it down to MP and make it playable over xbox live that would already be worth the 15 bucks. (as long as I can get the US version and not the slow pal version) After so many years Im not interested to play the campain again.

I think it would just be a nice gesture to all the hardcore Halo fans that have been around since 2001 to add online multiplayer to Halo:CE. Halo 2 and 3 are both great (I think Halo 3, overall, is the most complete package in the series) but they do play quite differently from the original. It would be amazing to get the original's blend of unbalanced gameplay (and I say that with complete love for the pistol - my favorite weapon ever because of the unique feel it lent to the game), ridiculously wacky physics (getting killed by a vehicle that was barely moving, dropping flags at certain angles to shoot them clear across the map), and power weapon/power-up timing over the internet. It's so hard to get people together these days for a LAN-fest, and it's even harder to get people that have only played Halo 2/3 to try out the original without online multiplayer. I don't know about the economics of making Halo:CE live-compatible, but if the cost is relatively low I think there is enough fan interest to make any net losses small. More importantly, it would be a sign of goodwill that could increase revenues in the future.

Oh ur Face , but wait maybe a host lag head shot ouch !!

From the looks of the page guys, the game is just coming as DLC just the game no changes which means no xboxlive. I can hear the fans boys whining now!

It wont sell many copies at all without the MP. People have done the single player time and time again, whats the point in paying $15 (and getting a HDD if you dont have one) too play it yet again.

"The games will, like any disk-based Xbox game running on a 360, be doing so courtesy of software emulation. Which is imperfect. And, sadly, leads to issues."

"Halo: There are some very mild frame rate drops."

Not perfect, will have the same problems as any other classic title played with a disk. Also I have not heard anything about live, the games don't support achievements either.

I will not buy this unless it has some strong selling points...like live multiplayer.

The unofficial word on the street is no extra features at all... you will get the Halo CE game that came out in 2001 only. I have no idea why they are trying to sell that without a physical copy for $5 more than you can get it at Best Buy... used you can probably find it for less than $5. Very strange times we live in... they charge you more for a DL copy... strange times indeed.

Since the game would have to be rewritten in order to support XBL, I wonder, just wonder, if XBL-classic emulation is somehow going to support Internet system-link games. In other words, since the 360 is emulating an Xbox classic, perhaps the emulation could also be written to support/use a MS-written or licensed 3rd party type of tunneling software.

That way, any pre-XBL titles would be "playable" online, but not need to each be re-written with full XBL support or certification.

I Love it, I love it, i LOVE it. I have no idea what you just said but it sounds amazing. If they do whatever you said i would pay 30 bucks for halo again. SYSTEM LINK online baby!

Just throwing this out there.... its not being emulated just stored on the hard drive..... until ready to be played.... i used to mod "NOT CHEATING MODS I HAVE NEVER CHEATED IN MY LIFE! I JUST MADE MAPS AND WEAPONS SUCH AS THIS MAP PACK CALLED KILL JOY HERE IS A LINK AND ON TOP OF THAT I NEVER PLAYED LIVE WITH A MODDED XBOX I ONLY PLAYED MODS THROUGH SOME SORT OF TUNNELING PROGRAM!" it works the way any other game does... but instead of a disk its on your hard drive. The PS3 has been doing this for a while now.... i think MS just decided to jump on the band wagon. although i really hope to see some kind of online multi-player.... and all they would need to do is offer an update for the people that have the original halo still on disk.. such as halo 1.0 or 0.5 or something like that.... but, knowing MS there will only be online multi-player for those that buy it from the market place... just so they can make more money..... well not exactly.... the original halo is sitl a $24 game.... i know cuz i work at game stop and we have a trade in about once a day of it..... so in a way you kinda get a better deal at buying it from the market place. =]

oh... and here is the expansion pack if your intrested

Tunneling software would be good enough for me. Provided I can play good old Damny and Rat Race the angels are singing.

I think you're confused, it would run off the Hard drive, not the DVD.

I don't understand how we have heard nothing about this! You think that we would be told some info as to what is different in the DL version from the disc that has been optimized for the 360. Graphics, emulation, co-op, multiplayer what was changed?!

Facts are the enemy of tru7h....

Not much more in the gamastura article...

I would assume that Recon is right... That they've been working on the emulation software to allow online support. I presume the games you dow load would be disc images or something similar of the original games.... So theoretically the original discs would be able to used online too...

I wouldn't have thought that there would be a fully fledged online mode like halo 2 or 3... more like playing system link with friends over live.... not sure how that will play....it wasn't designed to be played over the internet... only on a lan....but i guess we'll just have to wait and see..

Kill them all. Leave no enemy to rise against you. You never know who will rise up and shoot you in the back.

I would just love for them to make it so that we can play one XBL. When you think about it, it really wouldnt be that hard.
