It's more politics than functionality.

But basicly, it creates a network that has alot of computing power.
It doesnt affect (effect?) the performance of your cpu, but you can't use it for certain periods of time.

Yes, but this is legit.
My dad works for IBM, so he did this, and it works fine.

There is no benifit, and alot of risk, but what the hell?

To help the people without computers in Africa. When you're not using your computer, teh company flies them to wherever you live so they can use your computer for 20 minutes.
