Like most players, on Halo 3, I am fairly new to the game. I have found that there are many people who play the game for mere status. Those of you who have heard the words "who wants to play for achievements?" at the beginning of a match know what I'm talking about. I don't understand the correlation between giving achievements and EARNING them. An Achievement, as defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is: "TO GAIN BY WORK OR EFFORT." Something given to you by a friend in a matched game has not been achieved, It has merely been given. I can go to an Army Surplus store and buy a Spacial Forces insignia and patch it on to a piece of clothing. In doing this, the only thing I have achieved is attaching cloth to cloth. I have never been through the rigerious training the special forces have had to go through and subsequintly have not earned the right to brandish the insignia. In short I would like to point out that having achievements, unless earned through gameplay and hard work, will not make you a better player. once the game starts and you can't can't back up your awards everyone will know who you are. At the end of the day I don't see how someone can feel a sense of accomplishment when, in actuality, they have accomplished nothing. If meaningless trophies are what you want on your walls, then please, continue to ask "Who wants to work on achievements?" But know this, there are many of us who have earned our achievements, and we will stand out aongst those of you who have not. In the end we will be on top. If you see me online never ask me to GIVE you something. Kill me or I will kill you. Thats what we're here for.
