So Halo:CE is coming to the market place for download. Cool :-)

My only question is, will the multiplayer part be on Live? I damn well hope so. I would love to play the original game on xbox live.

and 800 to 1200 points for the game would be a bargain esp' if they update the graphics slightly (not changing the models just making them abit more polished) and have online co-op like Doom.

If this is in the wrong forum, my apologies.

How easy would it be to alter Halo:CE to be played over xbl rather than just a LAN like it was origanally made for?

I'm hurting for a rockets on Boarding Action. *drools*

Though if it doesn't do multiplayer, M$ wouldn't make much on it as anybody who cares about halo should already have the disc and thus wouldn't want to waste hd space on a download.

It's been confirmed that there will be no achievements, and no Xbox Live support. It's basically just Halo: CE off the disk, except it's downloadable. I'm not sure whether or not it'll at least let you check out your friends list (or force you to go offline, like other Xbox games).

You can go to majornelson.com and check it out for yourself.

And yeah, I was very excited at first, but then I realized that it will have no Live support, no achievements, and won't be updated to run better on the 360 console. I say this because, let's face it, anyone who tries to run Campaign on co-op... it'll run like crap. That's because when you emulate it, it's only using one of the cores for the 360, atop being software-emulated as well. I thought they'd fix that up, and optimize it for the 360, but I guess not.

Oh well. I'm sticking to my Halo 1 Xbox, and Halo PC =]

Wow, they made something that could have been really cool, entirely pointless, at least for fans of the game on the original xbox. If you've never played the game it might be worth the download, but it would probably still be cheaper to buy an old copy for the xbox and run it on the 360.

Disappointment : (

You do realize Halo 1 was not built with netcode in mind, right? It was built for nice, clean LAN fun. Why do you think Halo 1 PC's netcode is so terrible?

The game's engine itself was not built for networking, and even if it did support XBL, the netcode would still suck. Not to mention, they'd have to dive back in to the engine's code, and mess with it, which could cause them enormous headaches, and it was probably the best choice not to change one line of code.

I would've loved XBL support, but oh well.

What was Halo on XBC like?
From what I understand (which isnt much lol) XBC fooled the xbox into thinking it was connected to a LAN and not a net connection, which was how you are able to play it online. Would it not be possible to do that on 360 with Halo?
Just a thought I had.

Halo on XBC was a lagfest beyond anything I've ever experienced. When the game is transmitting massive amounts of data during a system link game thinking it's got a massive pipe as a medium when it's only got a drinking straw then a whole lot of bull happens non stop in the game. It's so bad that executing basic movements like running and stopping, strafing or performing a well timed jump feels sluggish and slightly delayed as if the movement commands you inputted into the controller takes a second for it to be performed no doubt because it has to be communicated to the host machine through a straw thus creating the delay. This delay not only affects movement but everything in the game even down to where bullets land forcing you to lead shots to compensate. To further detract from the experience the host experiences none of the above mentioned things giving that player a major advantage.

On top of this the game's coding doesn't take into account that over the internet there'll always be hiccups. The slightest interruption in anyone's connection can close the game down, freeze player's in their tracks momentarily or turn the game literally into a slideshow. Given that on XBC you can join any room, the game didn't allow new players to join when a game was in progress. This made hunting for rooms on XBC with a game that hasn't begun yet a huge challenge and half my time usually went into searching and waiting for that room. Not easy (for example) if there were a dozen rooms listed then half would be firewalled or have a high ping, the others password required, locked, full, empty or advertising leaving usually 2 or 3 that's actually viable if they don't randomly kick you the instant you join. Playing Halo on XBC has been overall a pain in the ass. Too much of my time trying to play Halo has been spent looking for a game. I gave up playing Halo CE multiplayer over XBC years ago and only play it on the PC these days. It's pretty fun when there's a pool of about 2000 players to play with at any given time, can join during a game, play custom maps, not disconnect when there's a slight interruption in the connection, no annoying laggy movement and dedicated servers so that one player doesn't have a host advantage over everyone.

I could have lived without the multiplayer aspect of Halo if they had co-op online. But most people who have a 360 and like the Halo franchise prob still have their disk copy (I have) So I dont think Bungie/MS will make much on this version of it. Pitty.

Was looking forward to playing Sidewinder :-(
