Here's a cost rundown of previous Halo 2 downloadable maps.

Bonus Map Pack - Containment and Warlock - Free
Killtacular Map Pack - Sanctuary and Turf - $6
Maptacular Map Pack - Gemini, Relic, Elongation, Terminal, and Backwash - $12
A Little Too Late There, Buddy Pack - Tombstone and Desolation - $4

Personally, I feel that $10 is too much for three maps. There's not enough value there for $10. Gears of War had four maps for $10 (although even then I felt that the price was too high). You can get a full XBLA game, Exit, for $10 (yes it's a PSP port, but it's a big game). If it were up to me, I'd offer the three maps for $5. I don't mind paying for additional content, but I do believe in paying a fair price and not one that almost seems like price-gouging.

There is a simple solution to this. If you truly feel that $10 is too much for three maps, DO NOT BUY THEM. Resist the urge of succumbing to peer pressure and stand your ground. You can do all the complaining you want in the Bungie forum, but the only way you'll convince Microsoft to lower the price of these maps is to not buy them.

When the maps will become free next year and Bungie offers the next set of maps, they'll look at how many people bought the first pack. If the numbers are low, then Bungie and Microsoft will realize that they overcharged their first pack and will offer the second pack at a lower price. However, if people still buy the first pack in droves, then expect more 3 for $10 packs in the future. It's free market principles at its finest, and the future of Bungie map pricing schemes is up to you.

Where do you stand?

I agree.

TAKE A STAND
DO NOT BUY ITEMS YOU FEEL ARE TOO EXPENSIVE
DO NOT GIVE INTO PEER PRESSURE
RESIST THE URGE OF SUCCUMBING TO THE PRICES

so do yall know if lockout will be in here bc there has been many rumors?

  • 11.19.2007 4:18 PM PDT

I think people are missing the point here. Have we all forgotten that we should be thankful for actually getting new maps? Or even the fact that we have technology that allows us to download new content for our favorite games?

Bungie doesn't have to give us new maps you know. They could of just said "screw you" and not given us any.

For crying out load people. It's 10 dollars. 10 DOLLARS. Do you realize how small of an amount that is? I really don't understand everyones complaints. It's three brand new, awesome maps that will add to the ones we have already.

10 dollars. If you can't go out and make that in a week, you seriously need to re-examine yourself.

  • 11.19.2007 4:18 PM PDT

Don't tell me what I can't do.

I am fed up with these prices. I will never pay for these above five dollars and I DO NOT like microsoft points. Imagine what would have happened to the trading system when it first started using dollars if there were microsoft points. Everything would surely fall apart. Its all a stupid trick and I hate it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the maps. In fact, im rare in that I like all the maps that you guys have made. Others, not so much, but thats okay. However I do not need this.

Halo 3 had high expectations and so far Bungie has not fulfilled the expectations with regards to balanced, fun, and small maps that don't require vehicles or more than 8 players. Crying!? I spent $70.00 for a game that is SLIGHTLY better (and less fun) than Halo 2's multiplayer. The maps from Halo 1 provide much better gameplay and are much more fun to play than all the Halo 3 maps. I would rather play a game of Chill Out on LAN than any of the Halo 3 maps on XBox Live. Think about it--Chill Out, Hang em High, Prisoner, Damnation, Battle Creek, Midship, Wizard--Do any maps in Halo 3 even compare? No, they don't.

Although Bungie or Microsoft don't care, if these maps are simply big, huge, big team battle maps for n00bs playing Rocket Race, I'm not buying them. The some-assembly-required map better blow my mind.

Thankful ...Do I look like a Pilgrim?

Ten dollars may not seem like much, but expenses add up and spending money on three little maps exclusive to a single game vs. milk for a week is a no brainer: The maps win!

Caught ya off guard with my ending didn't I?

I have to say that I'm really getting tired of being nickel and dimed to death this generation. We pay more for games and get charged for gamerpics, themes, and almost all DLC (some of which is just unlocks and not actual DLC).

I love Halo 3 and really want there to be A LOT of downloadable maps. I also don't mind paying for them. But please stop gouging your fans and supporters. Charge a REASONABLE amount for your maps and listen to what people want rather than play the part of arrogant programmers who decide what the fans should want.

Give us SIX maps for 800 points, not three. Give us retro map packs (without needless tampering). Update the playlists more often. Show us that you actually care that we all forked over at least $60 dollars for your game and made Halo 3 the biggest, most profitable game ever. In short, don't take advantage of us.

I know there will be a lot of sheep who will pay for these maps regardless, but I truly hope that there are enough of us who pass on these maps to get the point across to Bungie that this is unacceptable.

3 maps...sigh. Not what I had hoped for. Price? Okay. Quantity? Not okay. I'd pay more, twice even, if there were SIX maps. God knows we need them.

Tru7h and Reconciliation

To everyone whining- it's a -blam!- WEEK'S allowance, kids.

Too bad we won't be able to enjoy the genius environment artist's graphical assets in true, non-crappily-upscaled 720p resolution like the Beta was. It's a shame really, Standoff looks like one of the most beautiful Halo maps ever made.

For those complainers, $10 is cheap especially if you consider the amount of man hours that went into developing the maps.I shake my head in disbelief for those who think $10 too much. Just save roughly .50 cents everyday from now till the release day.

Is 10$ really going to kill you guys ? [those who are complaining]
Like someone mentioned earlier, you have the choice of waiting until they become FREE. . .
I cant wait to play these new maps and I think H3 needs a few smaller sized maps as well..Midship!! haha

It's not that $10 is going to kill me...not at all. I have a job and buy my own things...like DLC on my favorite game! I, along with A LOT of other people, think it's crap that 1) We are paying for a map that was supposed to be shipped with the game September 25th. It's ridiculous that a month and a half later, they make us pay for this map. I mean seriously...that's just dumb. If it was Bungie's intention to ship this with the game but it wasn't ready at the time, shouldn't it be free DLC? That seems pretty logical to me. 2) We are only getting 3 maps. WTF?? Where is Purple Rain and Moonbase Alpha or whatever? If they're not ready I'd rather wait and pay $10 for 5 maps instead of 3.

I'm not cheap. I spend money way too much and will buy these the night they come out. I just personally feel like we are getting screwed here. If no one would have ever told me that one was supposed to ship in-game or that there were supposed to be two other maps I would be buying this without thinking.

You want to know where I stand?
well personaly think that you are a bunch of cheap nubs and should stop complaining
If 10 dollars is too much money for you dont pay because no ones going to care,
if you dont bungie isnt going to miss your 10 dollars they wouldnt miss 1000 peoples 10 dollars,
get over yourself

if you dont like this so much go find a new game to play

also some one on a previous page said something about haveing to have a credit card to buy microsoft points - that is incorrect
if you live in america you can go to any local gamestore, kmart, target, or walmart and buy 1600 points for about 19.99(in most places)
if you dont live in america sorry but im not sure what stores supply them where you live but im sure there is somewhere

This seems pretty awesome I'm excited about the new maps hopefully it will help improve matchmaking. I am however disappointed that the halo3 version of Chiron will not be included into this package. I read on the site somewhere that there was going to be a Chiron remake and I really hope to see it available for download soon.

Man there are too many -blam!-es -blam!-ing today. Like none of your can come up with and extra $10 over the next 3 weeks! PAN HANDLE FOR GOD'S SAKE. It's $10! That's cheaper than a movie! Than a single meal at a restaurant! Than a pizza! Thing is, all those things are immediate satisfaction that goes away. Food only happens once and then is gone, you can't go into the theater again without paying again. The maps are YOURS FOREVER for the same price, and when you get bored of them, forge them and they're fun all over again! I think $10 for that kind of fun and accessibility is a steal, and trust me when I say I don't have all of the money in the world, but i'll work an extra hour at work just to snag these maps.

And as for bungie being greedy and cheap, GO TO HELL YOU MORONS. Do you know how much overhead it takes to make and maintain a studio on the cutting edge as their's is? Not to mention Microsoft still snags a pretty good chunk of that money as publisher. It's not like every single halo thing you buy feed's directly into their pockets, there's producers, publishers, factories, suppliers and tons of middlemen, all taking a piece of the pie. So most of the time when you buy something, Bungie as actually making pennies on the dollar. Now that doesn't mean Bungie is a poor, destitute company in ANY way, but they definitely aren't as rich as you all seem to think. Then take the money they did receive, take away all of their empleyees salaries, cost of operation, maintaining and upgrading systems, and still having enough money to try to produce a new game and keep those costs going before the final release of that new hit, and you see why they need that money. When a game company makes a game, they are not making a profit until the game's release. So between the release of Halo 2 and Halo 3, what they had in sales from halo 2 and its DLC was the only money they were making directly to pay for all of the production costs I just mentioned. So now if you still think your -blam!- $10 IS STILL TOO GOOD TO SUPPORT A COMPANY THAT MAKES GAMES YOU PLAY AND LOVE THEN YOU ARE A REAL CHEAP-ASS MORON. It's not them begging for more money, they worked hard on this -blam!- for months and you all shrug that off like it isn't worth the price of a movie that lasts 90 minutes? Goddammit, I'm poor and scrape by, but some people are too cheap even for me....

Meh, wait until spring to get them for free, if they even do that, it just means less -blam!-head noobs to bother me.

Good work bungie, can't wait for more!

  • 11.19.2007 5:02 PM PDT

Just remember... I keep it real...

Very nice... but one concern... Gears of War charged 800 points for 4 maps that were released months after release. However, this map pack cost 800 points but we only get 3 maps... odd... and one is said to have just missed retail launch. I say 600 points is a much better price point. But either way, I am going to buying them.

[Edited on 11.19.2007 5:05 PM PST]

  • 11.19.2007 5:04 PM PDT

On second thought $10 is way too much considering we're going to pay $10 again a few weeks from now for the other three maps. So many people will buy them for 5$.
