The best part of anti-sniping that i've found is as follows:

-check if the sniper rifles on the map are gone. if they are, check with your teammates if they have one. if they don't... well... ANTI-SNIPE CAMPAIGN START!!! whoo

-get aquainted with the maps and their good sniping spots. the best anti-sniper has to know how to think like a regular sniper would.

-arm yourself with maybe a shotgun or another type of good one-hit kill weapon. after doing so, sneak around the spots, don't make yourself obvious. if you see a firefight, DON'T JOIN AT ANY COST! you may even get lucky and there may be a sniper covering the fight. they like to pick off survivors (well at least my buddies do).

-after finding a sniper, crouch down and move slowly until you are close enough to whip them or shoot them in the back with the shotgun. either way, take them out quickly.

-if you are being shot at by a sniper, there is just about one option: find cover, and find it fast. the last thing you want to do is stop and try to find where he is. make sure you can get to some kind of rock or building and wait for your shields and do whatever. try to sneak out once the sniper is reloading or sneak around the shadows. eventually if you are just too hard to kill he will desist and look for easier prey. this is when you strike! whoo again.

this is kinda a follow-up mini-guide to this thread, but i hope it comes in handy.

Hikaru can you believe that this old thread is still going. lol. Well guys Hikaru promised you a new guide. Sadly I don't see it coming, he has no time for this stuff because as any of his good friends know he is working on project ODST, a homemade movie of his. So don't be expecting anything.

(Edit:
Perhaps I should say that it was almost a year ago since I did this (on AotCR). I clearly remember having both the bridge covies and pyramid covies to snipe, but when I tried to do it again today, It didn't work. I guess I don't remember exactly how I got it that way)

the way u probably did it was to get that invisibility and then just run for the first banshee. U really don't need the invisibility but u definitely have to try to avoid teh covies and ove quickly. try just srinting for the banshe and then flying directly to the ledge. then u have both to snipe. AotCR definitely one of the best maps for that reason
thanx too hikaru for the guide

Okay then let us begin.

Now before you can effectively operate on the field of battle in the realm of Halo mulitplayer you must first get excellent accuracy. Which means one thing. Target practice. Now I have a nice spot for you to do this at extreme range. In AotCR there is one spot in particular. Towards the end of the level when you are near the Control Room itself, there is a bridge. When you first get on this bridge immediately throw a plasma grenade to get a banshee down for yourself. Kill all enemies on the bridge and go across. Move your way inside, kill everything, and come out the bottom where your banshee should be. Grab the nearby sniper rifle(it's in the pit if you did not know) and grab your ride. Now fly up and you should find a platform on the canyon wall. Go up there and snipe down at the Covenant below on the pyramid. Do this alot until you can kill Elites with one to two shots (did I mention that this was Legendary mode? You should practice on this) at extreme range (this is some 350 meter shooting up here, great for training your eyes in MP). Do this a bunch until you are comfortable with your accuracy.

Then there is what I call "Battle Field Analysis." This basically means that you must take in EVERYTHING. Troop movements, the weapons you have, the weapons your team has, the weapons the enemy has, locations of vehicles, what is and is not flipped over, flag location, health levels, motion tracke ractivity, repeated tactics that are being used by either team, etc. A good way to do this is to find cover, I recommend a bush or rock to hide behind, and then look around at an area. Get everything in your head and move to the next area. Thne use that info to your advantage. Tell your team what is going on and maybe even use vehicles for cover. I don't know how many times hiding behind a Warthog has saved my ass from destruction.

Now for the next aspect of sniping, the stalk. No sniper is complete without his ability to track his target. Okay then stalking really isn't that hard, it's just that people are too dumb to realize it. To stalk is really simple. Taking cover and taking your time. People are always ina big rip to get things done, whcih is why they have a poor kill to death ratio. A sniper generally will move along the edges of the map. I recommend using the caves in Blood Gultch alot as well as the tunnels inside Sidewinder. Telelporters are handy inside Sidewinder, but people over use them. So in that level I say stay on the low ground and along the edges. Believe or not, but this is a very safe tactic. There are tons of spots to just hide for a bit and for you to take in all of the battlefield information. Also move slowly across the map. I can't say that enough. Take your time or die alot. Simple as that. Bushes, vehicles, rocks, caves and such are great cover for yuo to move around from. Go from point to point scanning the area in 2x scope mode, a quick scan in 10x and move from there.

Now onto the thing with motion trackers being on. If you can see the enemy on your tracker, they can see you. So play it safe. As long as there is cover nearby, you can run over to it real fast(most people won't notice you doing it quickly), duck behind it, and STAY STILL. You can look around, but you can not afford to move unless you are being shot at. Since you are behind your cover now, you can whip out either your S2 AM or your M6D and sight in on the enemy. When he is at a comfortable range, peg him. Another alternative to this is when they pass you by run out and whip him in the back. You'll show up out of no where and it'll scare the hell out of people.

Next rule. NO CAMPING. Camping is not sniping, it is the coward's way out. You also become very obvious. Campers are not snipers, they aren't even sharpshooters. Okay then, nect topic.

Then there is the supposed problems with the contrails. Easy solution. Fire when you are ready. If you can't make a good shot, don't take it. If there are tons of enemies around your target, wait for them to disperse and then fire at the people that don't see you. Also fire one, maybe two shots at most. It'll keep you safe from being seen easilly. Or if the enemy is close enough, use your M6D. They'll never know what hit them, but don't become obvious to your spot. Pretty much don't reveal yourself all that much making it one shot one kill sort of deals and you should be fine.

The following is a sniper's biggest nightmare. Being found and being found by a lot of people....this can be a problem. There are three solutions to this sort of dilemma. The first is you die, kinda obvious, but yeah. The next you fight it out. You can sharpshoot (you're found, sniping no longer exsists at this point) your incoming opponents. Aim for the closest guy first and work your way back, maybe even use your grenades. Take out as many as you can before you die. The last option is run and gun. Meaning you are jumping, ducking, side stepping, while you re hauling ass backwards towards friendly units. Not the best of options, but when a sniper is found his death is almost assured in reality.

Well I think that covers most of it. If I missed any details or was too vague go ahead ask. I have no problem with explaining things again in a different way. Good luck with you sniping people.

OK, I want to know how long it took you to type all of this, I wouldn't be patient enogh to type all that in one sitting. It is a really awsome guide though, but not my type of fighting, running around with an assault rifle and pistol is cool with me, so is meleing!(thats the reason why I got so attached to Halo in the first place, besides the stunning graphics and grenade system.

My only Halo 2 tips are, get the rifle, follow this guide, play in "Sniper Alley" in Outskirts, don't die on Live, pray, and if you are gonna die with the sniper in hand WASTE AMMO by shooting everywhere. You can't afford the enemy getting ahold of the sniper.

Well my type of sniping is usaully prett ysimilar to what Hikaru said, except with one difference, When I snipe, typically I'll go for the highest point on the map so I can get a good vantage point to snipe from. Its like a semi camp, because usaully I'll snipe from that point, and then rapidly move from the point I was just at, and set up a position to snipe any guys who came to take me out.A lot of times this will allow you to survive because sometimes when you snipe and miss the enemy will call out your position and then your in deep crud. So by getting to a spot where you can assasinate the assasins, you'll often times surprise them cuz hey'll still think your at that high point, and sometimes the enemy sniper will give up his postion to come after you. I that sense you can take a few guys out, and if you're lucky get the othe r sniper out to. Think about that, its not camping, its setting up an ambush.

I don't know about you sean...Maybe you aren't a good sniper or something, because if you were a good sniper you may have already known a few of those tricks and you wouldn't disgust me with your vulgarity. Hikaru helped me in my sniping, and I think maybe you should try xbox live so you can get whoupped by real snipers like me and Hikaru.

I wanted to offer you my help in any way possible, being that i am new HERE, but am an experienced Halo (1 and 2) player. Yes reject me if you will, but i am versed in many things, so please just check me out. Again, offer, not obligation, so, totally ignore if you deem it so.

Unfortunately for many people that want to be snipers in real life, halo is not that realistic of a sniping game. if it was, the reticule of the scope would change as a person moves so that people couldn't get headshots 300+ meters away while jumping and spinning. Because the Master Chief has been blessed with superhuman sniping powers, it makes all the sense in the world to be a "sharp-shooter" than an actual sniper

I don't claim to be the best sniper in the world(beleive me I have been put in my place)but I have tried both ends of the spectrum. I have tried "sniping" which only works if you are going for a high kill to low death ratio. However, "sharp-shooting" helps out team games dramatically.

My clan has 3-4 very good snipers, yet we would be called sharpshooters. whenever we start a clan game, our two designated snipers go for the two or so sniper rifles so that we are no longer in danger of being sniped. After that, our snipers become mainly a defensive role.

It is great if you can hide across the map unseen by the other team and get 1-2 shots and 1-2 kills before moving to another spot, but in a team game i would rather have our snipers in the general vicinity of our base killing anyone they see on the map on defense and protecting the flag carrier/bomb carrier on offense

hey hikaru,
Me and u are not so different. My gamer tag is Munchie03 and I'm been helping Halo 2 players newbees to the pros on the tactics that I use. I'm not saying that I'm the best, but I do average about 30 kills a game and most of the time without snipping. Of course i snipe some games but that is really not a skill.(my opinion, or the rockets for that matter.) I believe they're there for, like the rockets, vehicles not to take one person on one person. I'm here for these people that need help or want to become better. So hit me back when you can players.

And how about how to avoide been shot at by snipper. Anti Snipper stuff would be good too, still great addition to the library! this is the stuff the library needs, more pros like us teaching the ways of the halo muiltiplayer to the lesser mortals!

again, GREAT snipper guide!

For a ghost shoot just above the hood because their head stickes out a little or just let him stand still
4 a wrthog shoot the sides where the people are windsheuld proveides 2 much D

wow never thought someone that spends half their day on the boards would be a half good teacher. Those are some exelent tactics that i am sure to be use in online games. One thing I would like to point out is that these tactics can be used in any game not just halo.

"Timah!"

um, snipers, in real life, are indeed "campers" as you so eloquently put it, and sitting and waiting for a viable target is where snipers actually go their class specification: taking out officers, guarding a chokepoint, etc.
