Dude, excellent guide (didn't really help me though...not to brag, but I consider myself an excellent sniper)
My technique is as follows:
1: ALWAYS go for the headshots, even if this means taking more time tracking your target. The more you do it, the easier it will be, i.e. on Live (H2) when I play team shipers at least half my kills are headshots (most of the time; i do have my bad days)
2: TAKE YOUR TIME. Relax. Nuf said
3: Move after about two or three shots (or less, even). When the people you killed respawn, they'll make a personal vendetta against you, and, sometimes, work together to kill you. Nothing pisses off a ground pounder more than to be running to cover and suddenly die from a headshot
4: Save your shots. If you run out of ammo, you'll have to abandon your position to get more.
5: Only snipe vehicles if you have a definite shot. This is especially true in Halo 1, since the vehicles are indestructible. If you fail to kill a Scorpion driver on the first shot, you're basically toast, as he/she will fire the AR at you to take you out of zoom, and finish you off with the main cannon. Ghosts are also a bad idea to shipe, especially from the front or if they're moving- unless you get a headshot, they'll rapidly close on your position and finish you off very quickly.
6: Always carry a short ranged weapon, preferably a shotgun, if at all possible. Here's a weapon's guide, ranked for effectiveness (1-5, 5 being good):
H1:
4: Sniper rifle, M6D Pistol
5: Sniper Rifle, Shotgun
3: Sniper Rifle, AR
Notice that there's no rocket launcher. This is because it is too slow to use, and is more of a medium-long range weapon, unless you're good with it up close.
H2:
3: SR, SMG
3: SR, BR (Battle rifle, takes place of M6D)
5: SR, Shotgun (this combo is always a good one to take)
5: SR, Energy Sword
Notice that there's no Covenant weapons listed. This is because this list is drawn from what works for me, and I hardly ever use Covie stuff (except Sword), unless it's Dual Weilded.
7: NEVER GIVE UP! Have fun, and keep at it.
There's my two cents. Hope it helps. BTW, I'm also on the RVB website, you can PM me there or here if you have questions. (name= Sgt_Plato)
Feel free to send me a party invite if you are ever on Live.
Hikaru: Sorry if you felt like I was trying to undermine you for the longest post of all time, or trying to take over your thread. Just got carried away a little; only trying to help.
