Okay then let us begin.

Now before you can effectively operate on the field of battle in the realm of Halo mulitplayer you must first get excellent accuracy. Which means one thing. Target practice. Now I have a nice spot for you to do this at extreme range. In AotCR there is one spot in particular. Towards the end of the level when you are near the Control Room itself, there is a bridge. When you first get on this bridge immediately throw a plasma grenade to get a banshee down for yourself. Kill all enemies on the bridge and go across. Move your way inside, kill everything, and come out the bottom where your banshee should be. Grab the nearby sniper rifle(it's in the pit if you did not know) and grab your ride. Now fly up and you should find a platform on the canyon wall. Go up there and snipe down at the Covenant below on the pyramid. Do this alot until you can kill Elites with one to two shots (did I mention that this was Legendary mode? You should practice on this) at extreme range (this is some 350 meter shooting up here, great for training your eyes in MP). Do this a bunch until you are comfortable with your accuracy.

Then there is what I call "Battle Field Analysis." This basically means that you must take in EVERYTHING. Troop movements, the weapons you have, the weapons your team has, the weapons the enemy has, locations of vehicles, what is and is not flipped over, flag location, health levels, motion tracke ractivity, repeated tactics that are being used by either team, etc. A good way to do this is to find cover, I recommend a bush or rock to hide behind, and then look around at an area. Get everything in your head and move to the next area. Thne use that info to your advantage. Tell your team what is going on and maybe even use vehicles for cover. I don't know how many times hiding behind a Warthog has saved my ass from destruction.

Now for the next aspect of sniping, the stalk. No sniper is complete without his ability to track his target. Okay then stalking really isn't that hard, it's just that people are too dumb to realize it. To stalk is really simple. Taking cover and taking your time. People are always ina big rip to get things done, whcih is why they have a poor kill to death ratio. A sniper generally will move along the edges of the map. I recommend using the caves in Blood Gultch alot as well as the tunnels inside Sidewinder. Telelporters are handy inside Sidewinder, but people over use them. So in that level I say stay on the low ground and along the edges. Believe or not, but this is a very safe tactic. There are tons of spots to just hide for a bit and for you to take in all of the battlefield information. Also move slowly across the map. I can't say that enough. Take your time or die alot. Simple as that. Bushes, vehicles, rocks, caves and such are great cover for yuo to move around from. Go from point to point scanning the area in 2x scope mode, a quick scan in 10x and move from there.

Now onto the thing with motion trackers being on. If you can see the enemy on your tracker, they can see you. So play it safe. As long as there is cover nearby, you can run over to it real fast(most people won't notice you doing it quickly), duck behind it, and STAY STILL. You can look around, but you can not afford to move unless you are being shot at. Since you are behind your cover now, you can whip out either your S2 AM or your M6D and sight in on the enemy. When he is at a comfortable range, peg him. Another alternative to this is when they pass you by run out and whip him in the back. You'll show up out of no where and it'll scare the hell out of people.

Next rule. NO CAMPING. Camping is not sniping, it is the coward's way out. You also become very obvious. Campers are not snipers, they aren't even sharpshooters. Okay then, nect topic.

Then there is the supposed problems with the contrails. Easy solution. Fire when you are ready. If you can't make a good shot, don't take it. If there are tons of enemies around your target, wait for them to disperse and then fire at the people that don't see you. Also fire one, maybe two shots at most. It'll keep you safe from being seen easilly. Or if the enemy is close enough, use your M6D. They'll never know what hit them, but don't become obvious to your spot. Pretty much don't reveal yourself all that much making it one shot one kill sort of deals and you should be fine.

The following is a sniper's biggest nightmare. Being found and being found by a lot of people....this can be a problem. There are three solutions to this sort of dilemma. The first is you die, kinda obvious, but yeah. The next you fight it out. You can sharpshoot (you're found, sniping no longer exsists at this point) your incoming opponents. Aim for the closest guy first and work your way back, maybe even use your grenades. Take out as many as you can before you die. The last option is run and gun. Meaning you are jumping, ducking, side stepping, while you re hauling ass backwards towards friendly units. Not the best of options, but when a sniper is found his death is almost assured in reality.

Well I think that covers most of it. If I missed any details or was too vague go ahead ask. I have no problem with explaining things again in a different way. Good luck with you sniping people.

Nice

I don't know about this one, maybe im super-jaded and a weathered veteran of Halo XB and Halo PC, but all of this seems to have come naturally to me. I just run on instinct when it comes to sniping, which I also happen to think is the most mundane aspect of the game. I find it very enjoyable, to see where the sniper fire is coming from, and when theres no radar, this works the best, to come up behind the poor bastard, and crunk him over the head with something fun, like a rocket launcher, then take his sniper rifle, and spawn kill him until he quits (halo PC). Like i said, I'm a bit jaded, and after playing thousands of hours worth of halo, I just like to mess with people. Campers, Tank drivers, Snipers, and Banshees are my favorite targets, because they usually think that they're invincible. To make it even more fun, hey just drop the pistol, pick up an AR and a plasma rifle, go to the middle of Blood Gulch, and see how many pistol-whores you can whoop. I'm serious, avoiding being shot with the pistol isn't really that hard, you just gotta run circles around their dumb asses. And don't forget, when you get the flag, take a quick trip upstairs and find that one noob sniper who's sittin on top of the base trying to spawn-kill. CRUNK!

One thing u missed when ur sniping glance at ur motion tracker every once in a while, i cant tell you how many times ive seen people sneak up behind snipers not looking and meleeing them in the back

i have a friend who is an awesome sniper. it's handy to see some tactics posted. good job.
the thing is when some sniper is really concentrating they tend to focus on the targets further away. one way of avoid being hit is to use the same tactics as a sniper. for example if you run and duck for cover the sniper will focus on you and try to change his angle. it the meantime get a buddy to creep up and stick a grenade on the back of his head. (always a laugh). but be careful as it wont always kill them.

when dodging a sniper I dance around and shoot him with the pistol so he has to zoom out, and once he finishes the clip whip out my own sniper and give him a slug right in the face.

captain cheeZ how you fight a scorpian is take a ghost come from behind start shooting at it when it starts to turn start circling it while shooting it. Stay close to it to it can't hit you if he can't see you. nopt only are hurting him if you have a team mate he'll be able to snipe him out while he's consentrated on you.do the same thing whith whorthogs and ghosts.to get away from a sniper run around find cover.JUMP. an anti sniper weapon is another sniper or a rifle or a pistle.

I feel bad for ripping on a guide that was so well-written, but really, many people are of the skill level where they can snipe on the go. They can cover literally the entire map using the orderly visual search pattern (ovsp), and their accuracy is spot-on. The chance of them being sniped is rare, since they almost constatly have the other base covered.

This guide might be useful for other games that feature sniping (such as Planetside), but it's not really appropriate for Halo.

That's in Halo 1 in H2 the maps wont be so open like the first game thus a on the move sniper couldn't "cover" the whole map. It's funny people actually think of Blood Gultch as a prime sniping map but anyone who has played Wolfenstein knows what a great sniping MP map is. Halo was too barren and sci-fi in Halo 2 there will be bombed out city streets and tons of great spots and with the new sniper kick it will be near impossible to run snipe. Tell all those people that snipe on the run that there days are numbered.

Plus, the Halo 2 sniper rifle has a recoil, so sniping's going to be a bit different in Halo 2.

just to add something....when you are playin multi...bg.....all vechiles.....get on the tank an move it all the way back on either the red or blue tower......then get out an make sure no one is looking....few seconds later get back on it but dont move it.....cuz then you'll easily be spotted...just sit back an relax as everyone respawns next to you an kill em wit a quick launch..or if you see any movement around the are just buck away- dont be shy.( its kinda cheesy) but this will have you on the top 3

If you want to kill a sniper its actually quite easy. You have to go around them. If its Blood Gultch go through the caves. Also Ghosts are great against snipers just keep moving and dont look away from the sniper because the nose is the best defense. The pistol works great against snipers because it fires faster, has a scope, decent range, makes you hard to find, and it causes the sniper to lose his/her zoom throwing off their aim. If you are going against a tank aim for the driver its suprisingly easy. Its like normal sniping except the tank moves slightly faster. So just compensate by aiming at the chest. This gives you a much easier target than the head and 2 shots will kill if you hit the person and not the tank. If you are a sniper I recommend using the sniper rifle and pistol or rockets. If you are playing on Blood Gultch or Sidewinder you can easily wipe out a tank or full Worthog with a well led rocket. If you by the teleporters and the Worthog is by the other wall I usually aim a few inches ahead w/o the zoom on. If you even come close to hitting the Worthog you can flip it possible crushing the people inside or ejecting them making them easy prey for your rifle. Often the best anti sniping

Yes but the stealth, tactics and aiming will remain the same if anything the sniping will be better.

Another "Trick" thats been there for a while is if your moving and your enemy is moving autoaim takes place. the cross hair sways with the person. If you are sniping and aren't seen, try walking back and forth and then take your shot or 2. I know you people dont like these little tricks to be posted, but i believe it does help with sniping.

That only happens on single and it only works on a lower difficulty such as Easy or Normal and that won't help you get any better.

Wrong.

That is what Hikaro 119 told me. I could be wrong on the difficulty stuff though.

Actually, there is a very very subtle auto-aim like mechanism; if you scim over a field and have an enemy pass through the crosshairs, there is a slight slower movement over the enemy until it passes your crosshair. Also, while an enemies moving, the crosshair does follow the enemy, though very slightly and only when the crosshair is red too. So its not really an auto-aim, moreso like an auto-tracking feature

Aren't those the MOST quote boxes you've ever seen?

Nope, this is.

wat about this?
xcellent guide
BTW, auto-tracking is subtle but kool

here are ways to take out enemies in vehicles:

scorpian: throw a fragment gernade on the place that the scorpian is going to move over

warthog: when it is about to run you over jump out of the way and shoot the the drive or throw a plasma gernade at the warthog (best weapon would be a shotgun)

ghost: same as warthog

banshee: when the banshe gets in close to you start shooting it with an asault rifle until it gets farther away then take out a pistol zoom in and start shooting, repeat this strtegy until you destroy the banshee
