Has anyone at least taken a look at my plasma grenade helper?

Though, I agree, someone who surveys an area like a sniper and specializes in close range is quite affective.

I like the part about NOT CAMPING alot. Because campers need to be BURN IN EXTREMELY HOT CHEESE! And not good, tasty cheese! The old, moldy kind, with big chunks in it!

I agree

Thats a good layout, wasnt totally in agreement about camping, because if you look at real snipers some move less than three feet in a day. but other than that, good job.

Depending how many targets and their skill levels, yes that tactic can work.

You've heard it all before. But you're about to hear it again. Nice job. By the way, the man that said that sniping is 90% mental and 10% physical hit it right on. I know that this sounds idiotic, but I imagine that the round that I'm about to fire is my last. Even if I have 24 rounds of ammo I use this little mind trick. It helps to focus on the shot.

nice work hikaru. The only way to become a good sniper is to always go for the head

Thats what works best most of the time.

That's why if you know a sniper's in the area; jump, run, duck, stop, go and generally annoy the sniper so they can't get a good shot; if they do shoot and miss, go after them, preferably with grenades or a rocket launcher

Shadow: I mean no disrespect, but what the crap are you talking about? Blood Gulch is great for sniping. Just because there's not much cover doesnt mean there are no awesome sniping spots. And, if all (and I mean ALL) else fails, you could always get on top of the map. If you are able to get up behind red base, you can own up on just about anybody. Well, that is to say, that you have a nice enough shot and a sharp eye. You can get extremely far behind red base in blood gulch. One time, one of my friends got up there, and he was showin it to me. I tried to look up there, and even though he was dark green, he looked like one of the stars up there. Its insane. But seriously man, there are more than enough spots in blood gulch for excellent sniping. Keep in mind, you dont always need to have cover from bullets, fore if they cant see you, they wont shoot you. For instance, the bush to the left of blue base (looking towards it from red base). The shadows next to red base do pretty good for cover from enemy site. Trust me dude, Sniping is my thing, its what I excell in. I can tell you for a fact that Blood Gulch is a great place to snipe.

Yo Sentinel117! Just thought I'd give you another technique for killing tanks. Sadly, its only useful in blood gulch, but its stil really useful. So useful that one time I had to take on a tank with a plasma pistol and no grenades and I won. Alright, heres the deal, there are plenty of hills and such in blood gulch right? Well, what you do is, either draw the tank near one or pray to God there is already one right next to you (one = hill). Drawing the tank to a hill is a trick within itself, that just depends on skill and location. Anywho, the small hill in the middle of the field where the rocket launcher is located is excellent for this manuever. (FYI- the rocket launcher was gone when I had to take on the tank) Alright, position the hill inbetween the tank, and yourself. Lightly peak over the hill to where you have a shot on the tank. Do your thing. Shoot the tank as much as you can before it gets too close. "but Joe, what if the tank fires at you?" Well my friend, thats the magic of this trick, if the tank fires, you are more behind the hill than over it, therefore, when it fires, it will hit the hill and more than likely not damage you. However, if it does, try to predict when the enemy is going to fire and kneel down before it does. When the tank does get too close and it is about to charge over the hill, you need to manuever yourself around the tank so that the hill is back inbetween you two. Thats not as hard as you may think. See, when the tank comes over the hill, take a step back, so you have moving room. Then--actually, when it reaches the base of the hill is when you want to take a step back. Then once it is climbing the hill, you need to move to one side of the tank and simply run by it, the player in the tank will not see you going by because while the tank is climbing he wont be able to see close objects directly in front of him. That gives you the advantage of the hill again. Repeat until tank is subdued.

what do you actually mean when you say recoil?

Posted by: ObbiQuiet
Plus, the Halo 2 sniper rifle has a recoil, so sniping's going to be a bit different in Halo 2.

all the weapons kicked back in halo 1, so what is the difference with the sniper in halo 2?

You must never have played ANY Wolfenstein map now those were great sniping maps. Blood Gultch isn't a sniper map it's a shooting contest there's no cover and very few spots to set up shop not to mention you can also shoot from one side of the map to the other! That's not a sniping map there's vehicles and you really can only snipe from 3 or 4 spots. Read Hikaru's guide sniping isn't just sharpshooting it's patience and concealing your self and then taking a few shots and then go unseen and BG just wasn't that and you cant argue that you just dont have the sniping expierience I do I have been sniping for 6 years over dozens of games I know what a good sniping map is. And a little bush or a spot of shadow isn't a great sniping spot and I can only count 6 spots off hand where sniping is atleast decent and only 3 spots that are above average whereas even a small Wolfenstein MP level would have four EXCELLENT spots where I can spot up and take care in my sniping remaining patient at all times. In Blood Gultch it usually came down to who jump strafe sniped the best and it rarely ever was a conventinal sniper battle mainly because the map is so small and wide open.

I like to think of sniping as 90% mental and 10% physical. To many times people overemphasis aiming as a trait of a sniper. That is a mistake it's one thing to be a good shot it's another thing to wait out be patient and take down someone only when the oppurtunity presents itself. Always use your head to prevent losing it, your anticapation of the enemy must be right on. Once you kill someone from a spot usually the will try and stop and will assume your going to use that spot again instead of camping in one spot use counter sniping spots to trap your enemy. For example one spot in blood gultch that I use is below the blue side tunnels in a small indentation in the hill from there I can get shots at the red side pathway and the blue hilll ramp and if I have the TV sound up I can hear would be snipers walking above me! Only use these spots when there is a enemy sniper for sure.

This man is freakin' brilliant. And everyone else posting tips on this thread. But mainly the point this guy made about the mental and physical aspects of snipering. People have a lot of troubles with snipering because they try to get better at shooting, but not at thinking. A sniper isn't someone who is just a really good crackshot. A sniper is someone who is never seen, because all who stop to look at him never ever do anything again. A sniper is someone who prefers to strategize over running into his enemies base shooting all his ammo. I truly believe a sniper is the best asset to any team.

I've only had one time where I actually heard the enemy walking around me. It was a two on one game and I was on a team by myself. I was actually around the location shadow was talking about. Probably not quite there, but somewhere around there. I was just sittin there waiting and then I heard footsteps behind and above me so I turned around and waited and sure enough, there comes both people on the other team, just chuggin along out of the taliban tunnels (thats what I call them). I did get killed however... I'm ashamed to say that, but the game was turned back around quickly. We were playing a game to 150 kills, and I was at like 95 when they were at 43 and they just decided to give up. Cant blame'em.

I actually use an entirely diffrent game for sniping practice. Metal Gear Solid Substance has a sniper VR that has a very similar speed and sensitivity to Halo (except the rifle kicks with each shot).

real snipers are campers, damn campers. anywho i dont think anyone mentioned sniper wars where two or more people collide with sniper rifles, ahh the tension as you shoot off 4 bullets in the general direction of your opponent hopeing if nothing else to put off his aim, circeling round and round taking cover behind hills and trees and rocks buying time to bulid up ones shield so as he can endure a third shot of the rifle of doom, tis a beautiful dule it, tis well depnding on the competition.

I know most snipers will not agree with my tactics but i believe even if you are sure about how good of a sniper you are you should never go for the head shot. It is best to make sur 100% that when you fire that loud ass gun that you are going to kill them. The way i do this is i aim for the chest and when i pull the trigger i pull it twice and nothing can survive two shots from a sniper rifle.
