Yes yes things were promised and I have been experimenting with different tactics making sure I give the best second part. Look at it this way. I am working on the guide making it great and not sitting around here constantly like I normally do making the guide practically worthless.

I was just gonna comment on no43's statement about "two sniper battles". Be it at close range or not, those battles are intense. But everytime you win one of those battles, you gotta feel sorry for the other sniper, cause you know they've put up a fight and had to deal with a lose. I'd be willing to bet that you've had that happen to you at least once. Tis very sorrowful. Yes, but I will say that sniper battles at close range are much more intense than ones at long range... especially after you run out of ammo. lol. Long range ones are okay too, but they're mainly about who fires the first shot. That is one reason I have to disagree with Dr. Quinn there. I've been in a battle where aiming for the head is what saved me. Someone was behind red base by the rocks, and I was down by red base (on the side where he couldnt snipe me on). I walked up the ramp to the top of the base slowly, peaked out and then quickly took cover again to get a feel of wear he was. Then I darted out to about a half a foot away from the top of the ramp, got my headshot, and we both fired at the same time. Sadly for him, I had gone directly for the head, while he had only shot my body, thusly, I survived, he died.

Heres a way to kill a ghost that happens to be facing you. This is an extremely difficult shot and requires first fire persicion. If you notice, when you get in the ghost, you sit down and you have the huge control panel covering up your entire body from the front. You'd think that this would make the player involerable from frontward sniping shots. However, it doesnt. If you notice when the ghost is facing you, there are three bumps on the bottom. One is the back of the ghost where it... just is that way. The other two, are spots to put your feet. As a sniper, if a ghost is in your line of fire, and its facing you, you think "oh well", but you dont have to. You see, if you aim for the person's feet, you can get a direct hit on them, thusly doing alot more damage. I wont say this will kill them right off. That depends on the amount of health they have, but it will do severe damage.

NOTE: This trick only works at ground level or any other spot where you can see the underside of the ghost.

I REPEAT: This may not kill them with the first shot depending on their health or the health settings.

NOTE: This is not fake, it does work. If it does not work for you, all that means is that you must work on your shot a little bit more.

When sniping ghosts aim just above the middle of the top of the front armour and fire if there is an elite driving it will be an easyy headshot. I'm not sure if this would work so well in multiplayer because a spartans head might not stick over the top of the armour.

Whenever I try to snipe a person out of a Ghost, I can't do it in one shot. I'm off to the side with a sniper and get it lined up for a head shot, shoot, and it's as though I hit there arm or something. I don't get it.

Nice work on the guide me and my friend looked at this and when we play we found out we do all those things you said. However i ahve some others to add.

Players should also relize what color they are.Red is better for blood gulch and things like that ect...Hide near a place that is your color it may give you the 1sec advantage you need to make the shot.which brings me to my next point.Hiding in plain sight. There are places in blood gulch and sidewinder that i use with no cover. They are in the open but they are in shadow or in a place people dont look.Since a good sniper moves after every kill then u wont be stuck in the open for long.

This is an excelent guide for beginners. The most important point is to practice in order to increase your acurancy. In order to have a chance playing against real people on a lan (or on Xbox live when halo 2 comes out), or on a system link tunneled game (XBC) you will definitly need one-shot-kills with your sniper rifle.

The assuslt on the control room practice location is a good one, but there are others: In two betrayals, near the end there is a very good place to snipe, just before you get to the last generator you will to get a banshee. the banshee is guarded by many covenant and flood who are fighting. make sure you play on legendary, get to this location with a sniper rifle and get to the hill furthest from your enemies. Unless you get one-shot kills, you will run out of sniper ammo before you run out of elites to kill. This is my favorite spot because the elites will never be standing still, only running back and forth, making themselves very hard to hit.

Once you think you are a little good, get into some real multiplayer. Hikaru missed some details about vehicles, so allow me. If your target is in a vehicle, this can be hard. Be aware that sniper rifles cannot shoot through the warthogs' windshield, but can make short work of any driver from a side view. Its best to wait for the driver to hit something that slows him down for a split second, then take him out only if you have a clear shot at his head. If you miss, he will follow the contrail back to you in a hurry. The gunner is always vunerable, but it is usualy best to eliminate the driver first, then the gunner is dead meat. The best part about warthogs is that they make good bait! keep an eye on an empty hog, and some foolish enemy will get in, as they climb on board, be sure to blow thier head off.

Stationary vehicles always make a good lure for snipers. whenever someone is climbing onto the vehicle for the first time, they are easy kills. these vehicles also make good cover, but dont use them for too long, because an empty vehicle always drwas attention (posibly from other snipers! ). The best thing to do with an empty vehicle might be to get in and drive it to a place that has very little other cover. This will allow you to use it as cover, and it will also lure other player there where you can finnish them off.

The tank is without a doubt the easiest target for an experienced sniper. Tanks are slow, and the only part of the pilot you can see is thier head, making it a little easier to shoot (in my opinion). This can take practice, since tank movement can be a little bit unpredictable.

The Ghost can be the hardest target because it is so damn fast. On the other hand, the driver is much more exposed, so if they hit something (a rock, a wall, a tree) then they become easy targets.

Dodging other snipers is tough. Generaly if they missed thier first shot though they are likely to miss thier next one. One of the best strategies might just be to shoot at them, even if you dont get a headshot, a body shot will cause them to loose thier zoom and give you another split second to dive for cover.

Never stop moving! I cant stress this enough. you dont have to move fast, just dont stay in the same place! Not only do other people hate campers, it makes you an easier target. Even when you are staying in one location for a while, to give your teamates cover while they attack the enemies, move around a bit. This movement will save your life from other snipers.

As mentioned by Hikaru staying perfectly still is good for staying off the motion trackers of your oponents, but remember, those motion trackers can only sense nearby motion. Only stay completely still if there is enemy motion on your tracker and you dont want them to know about you. It is also posible to move very sowly and the motion tracker wont pick it up.

One last thing: If you are feeling like being a realy nasty sniper, try to memorize the spawn location of your enemy team. In a game with more then 10 people, this will let you kill them as fast as they can respawn. In a game with limited deaths or respawn time growth this will realy piss off you oponents. Dont do this if you dont want people to hate your guts.

To Thirsty Grunt.

The spawn sniper is really easy on blood gulch:) Of course, everyone already knew that.......

Also, on Blood Gulch, if you're on red team, and you're able to steal both tanks on a LAN(like if an idiot starts attacking red base/near red base with a tank) stick them up on the shadowy hill behind red base and get full sniper and rocket ammo. Also, get another sniper friend, and 2 guys with full rocket/shotgun combo to cover the two sides of the hill. Using the combo of them, the tanks, and the middle rock at the top of the hill, you've got almost ultimate cover for sniping. All it would take is 4 people and the 2 tanks, and you're set. They'd have to take 12 guys and storm the hill basically to kill you(even then, all the people on your team would have to suck). All you'd have to do is snipe them as they're coming up and have the two people on the sides finish them off.

There's more to it then just technique, though. You have to try and get into the target's head (no pun intended). A good sniper has to keep in mind the way the other players are thinking. This goes hand-in-hand with the mystical "Halo-sense".

In short, it's all about anticipation.

And by the by, who the %$#@ needs tips for sniping in single player?

Oh, and if you really want to learn how to pop people on your own, set up a four player game at Blood Gulch and carefully tape down the control sticks for the other three people. Then just go stand somewhere and tag them whilst they run around in little circles.

Your sniper review represents the views of a mediocre halo player. What the heck is this crap about hiding and sniping?? I dont have to hide. You shoot at me, even if you hit me while i dance, thats the only chance you get before i headshot you. Want to run me over in a hog or run a flag return past me? no matter...i'll HEADSHOT YOU OUT OF THE HOG. Wanna sneak up on me and try to kill me from close range? i dont care, i'll headshot you UNZOOMED!!!! These are the marks of a true sniper. In chillout, i carry the sniper rifle around like a shotgun. A true sniper doesnt hide, and disguise his approach, because he doesnt have to. He kills anything that moves from long range, snipes any hogs (or any other vehicle on a vehicle map) and close-range snipes anyone who gets close enough to mess with him. Come on, forget the unexpirienced reviews, and leave the sniping up to the gods.

Dear "ShotgunKilla", the true purpose of a sniper is to remain unseen. If you really are a sniper your target never saw you coming(or going, for that matter).there is no "dance" as you put it,there is nothing.no tracks, no witnesses, no-one left alive. if any-one sees you, you have failed.and failure "ShotgunKilla",is not a viable option.

guys guys guys

this is halo, not real life.
In real life, yes, the purpose of the sniper is to remain unseen
In halo, the sniper rifle is just a weapon for getting kills, like every other weapon in the game. who will win a TS first, the player that hides and snipes and remains unseen? or the player that can use the sniper in any situation? if you can use it out in the open, and still get a 5-1 kill to death ratio, then whats wrong with that? just a thought

I remember back in the day of QWTF when I first started sniping, man that was fun back in the day =].

I still consider myself a top of the line sniper, but my golden days were still back in QWTF where the sniper rifle was a pain in the ass to use, but still as godly as it is in current games... I loved pissing off LPB's when me, an HPB made them look like new combers... It's just to bad I'm not as good as I was back then.

I wish Halo was online threw XB live... I'd love to school a few of "snipers" here and now... =P

Sniping is different in halo than in real life. Pasado, Shotgunkilla is a god and he would kick your a$$ in a snipers game. Verydisturbed1, Pimptacular is right and is also a god. And this is a noob sniper guide. Hikaru 119, i have some bad news. you have no f**kin clue what halo is about and ur an idiot and you need to grow some balls and snipe like a man.
