Subject: Awaken the Maw!

I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

Hello there!
Just Programlog here, and I have an iquiry/ramble of my own to make for anyone to answer. It seems that this forum has been for some time growing into a new noob-filled center forum. We as the Maw have always strived to be the more intelligent forum, filled with members that help newcomers who were nice, and put those arrogant few down. I inquire of you fellow Maw members, how can we keep ourselves from falling into nothingness? We got shot out of the 'community' tab, we are losing the old members that were what made this great place, and instead we're filling up with threads with repeating questions. I've been recently reading the golden oldie threads, and realized that back in the day this was a place of discussion that was intelligible.
I ask of you fellow Maw members, how can we get regignized as we were back in the day? How can we stop ourselves from escalading to threads like This
If your asking yourself who/what the Maw is, this is obviously not for you.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Email the Webmaster (webmaster@bungie.com) and ask. I will right now. Follow suit.

This place started dying when Halo 2 PC was merged with it.

Maw

We are now but a relic of what has been, and once was. Abused and defaced by time; victims of ourselves, what we have been, destroyed by what we will be.

At last there is nothing.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

I second the motion.

Hello! Star Wars FTW. Also, join the MAW group. Please?

Don't give up hope yet, if you do you've missed the whole point of this thread! The topic is Awaken the Maw not Maw, give up and go to sleep. Loyal and mature members, stay loyal, and help the noobs become mature and intelligent, and encourage the ones that already are but aren't yet regulars.

I'm awake. The thing is that I think the Maw community came out of people who were new to Halo PC and wanted a place to start off and have discussions. Halo PC has long since passed its peak, and there are few people joining the game this late in its life. I'm definitely feeling that most new people to these forums are people who are not new to halo PC, and just stop by briefly to either ask quick technical questions or be obnoxious in general.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Glad we haven't gotten any incest posts in here, yet.

The aformentioned Maw is dead. Give it up Program, it's done. We're done with our business here.

Sorry dudes, but this forum is dead. It's been dead for a while. Though I'm sure some will disagree, (puts on +3 Ring of Fire Eating) the signs are still there. Who knows, maybe the eventual release of Halo 3 PC in the not so near future will usher forth a golden age of PC gaming goodness that sadly, hasn't materialized with Halo 2 Vista. But for the right now, this place is a hole.

Sorry for the harsh reality check people, Although most wouldn't know it I was actually a member (as a person, not a gamertag, handle, screen name, whatever) just after Halo 2 was released for the Xbox, pretty much in the heyday of Halo PC. Although I crossed a line, and broke a rule and paid the price for it. Anyways, the point is this place was so much better than it was.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Unfortunately, you're right guys. The only thing we can do now is go to our solitude and prehaps keep up with each other through the big 3, (and any other clans, or the Group[....]). It's been a great ride guys, but, all good things.

aka lino4

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Most console to pc ports are garbage, so H3PC won't save us.

We're like...
The Forerunners of the Halo boards. Ancient, yet always present.

After due consideration I also blame laziness, and observe the obvious alternative.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

Ever since H2V came out and plagued us with its incredible suckiness, I have found myself visiting less and less. Halo 2 Vista killed the Maw, notice, it's not even called the Maw anymore, it's just what we call it out of habit and recognition.

Sad, but true.

If you want to return to what the Maw was before, I suggest checking out the MAW~, TUI, and HMC3 clan's forums, a lot of the members are there.

I'm just about to join The Maw group, so... Hopefully they have some less n00bie people on their forums.

Alternatively, we could have threads that had to do with something OTHER than "whose fault it was that H2V sucks". We could discuss PC gaming in general, like how kickass Call of Duty 4 and Team Fortress 2 are (with crysis also being pretty damn good). We're a PC gaming community at heart (at least, most of us play more than the Halo games) so lets just bide our time until a good Halo port comes out by talking about our platform.

Guess I'm one of the specified users with technical questions. Riding the back edge of technology is pretty much par for me. In any event, my stepson was home over the summer playing H:PC, and I picked up two copies from the bargain bin so my other kids could play with their brother. Works fine on the LAN, and internet players can easily and frequently join our games. We cannot join internet games - the "game has closed down" every time we try to go to the outside. Open to suggestions.

Internet - cable/broadband
cable modem to netgear router
desktop XP home SP2 hardwired to router
laptop XP pro SP2 on wifi.

The game runs fine in campaign mode, and works great when other players join us.

We also only ever see about 140-150 servers on the list. When I talk to my stepson on the phone (he's in Texas) he sees 400+ servers out there. We have upgraded to 1.07 - what else am I missing, and why can't I join internet games?

Thank you for your assistance, Maw of old.

newbs= mature, novices who don't scream at you if they lose or don't understand certain things. these are the people that grow to be mature helpful people, they may be your surgeon/lawyer one day.
noobs:novices that think they are good and say you cheat when you beat them. its these kids who grow up flipping your hamburgers from McDonald's.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

GimpyKnee, have you fowarded your ports, and have you made sure that your TCP/IP settings are correct? (I.E. Do you have a static Ip, or a dynamic one?)

Yeah, I've done something similar to that before becuase of another thread, and the offending post was even less offending (just a flame war, not -blam!-ness). It's just that in The MAW we have higher standards of behavior, so when we see something like that, we report it, but the XBox forum users are used to that sort of thing. So don't feell bad, feel proud that The MAW has higher standards.

I saw this thread when I happend to come back to my old stomping grounds to see how things where going, I'm not coming back for good (or bad).
