Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Lol I got a single core processor, 1gig of RAM, a 7600GT and Crysis runs smooth at low settings. And still looks pretty good.

Oh, wait, I'm running it on XP. I'll install in Vista and tell you all how it runs.

Yeah, you basically need a monstrous rig to run modern games on Vista - I personally have a GeForce 7600 with 2 gigs of RAM and a Dual-core processor, and Crysis lags like hell for me :P

No surprise there. Crysis was basicly created so that even in 2 years time, people would still find it's graphics something to stare at with intrest. And a GeForce 7600, of course it's not gonna run it that good. |:o

And Crysis IS one sweet-ass game, I admit, but still...may God smite them for making it so high-end and shiny ><

You people really don't know anything about vista do you. Vista doesnt hog memory it uses memory and caches your most used programs in ram so they load faster.

That's because people playing Crysis have extremely fast graphics cards and processors. They can afford to have resources drained to VistaHog
Python might be onto something, I tried putting my theme to Windows Classic and my PC loads up ALOT faster with it.

IF you can't run aero then it's time for a new video card, new CPU and more ram.

Thanks for the support, mate.

As people internet-wide have stated thousands of times, Vista was just too hastily released. MS couldn't really optimise the system for half of its intended programmes because they were being pressured to release by a specific deadline.

Run the game in XP SP2 compatibility mode, it's a problem with crysis so wait till crytek fixes it before you blame vista for everything.
Not to mention you only have a 7600 which is SLOW now-a-days

Lets see you run crysis on medium vincent, the game will take up over 1 gig of ram by itself, XP can't save you there. ;)

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Ok, first, I own a Vista 32 bit machine, as well as an XP Pro machine. I have experience with both, and neither is leaps and bounds better than the other one. I guess I prefer Vista overall, but I have to admit there is some glitchy stuff with programs and windowned 3D performance. Also some might find the constant checks on program launches irritating. Aero is cool, and Flip 3D is interesting, but I hardly use it. Overall, I still feel as though with XP you have more control over things, just as you did with earlier versions of Windows even going back to the days of "run win" and when you played games outside of Windows in DOS. But anyway, whadya gonna do, out with the old and in with the new. The budget shopper or casual PC user should probably go with XP.

Strange that people are debating gaming performance between the two operating systems. I figured that it was really close and moot, but maybe not as much as I originally thought. I was doing some shopping yesterday and looked at the specs of a ton of new PC games. Most of the "required specs" had slightly higher CPU minimums under Vista than under XP. And yes I realize that these labels often mean little, but I found that interesting.

Anyway, H2V sucks because it was a stripped down port of a console game, and that rarely works very well. When the price hits 20 bucks it will be a great buy for the campaign, which is actually pretty fun. Personally, for me the gameplay just flat out sucked when it came time to play multiplayer. Things like weapon unbalance, unnecessary changes to the handling characteristics of the hog and ghost, not just minor changes, but huge changes that ruined them. The hog can't turn due to massive understeer, and the ghost drives like they built it retarded on purpose. The only improvement made was to the tank IMO, which can now turn its turret independently of where it's driving. But who uses tanks when they play MP? Sigh... So they ruined Halo, slapped it on Xbox live for thousands of frag thirsty kids, then did a bad port of a bad console game and voila, you get H2V.

But Bungie did make Halo 2, which was bad already.

That made my day. Now I could go Xmas shopping without guilt! =D

Heh, yeah... made my day too. XP

After many tests, I can agree that Vista hogs resources like no other. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: HG definitely tested this game on XP. I'd bet monies on it, if I had any. I had $50 somewhere... oh wait. Crap.

Supposedly, Service Pack 1 takes a step in the right direction in terms of performance. Since I'm not cool enough, I can't see this myself, but I've been told that it won't be such a resource whore for long.

I have yet to hear anyone explain how vista hogs resources, please explain.

Ditto. Vista works just fine when you use it for browsing, or doing regular stuff. You only start to notice when you use it to run games, or demanding applications on it. It does have a few annoyances, though:

Randomly changing thumbnails without my consent. It seems to always want to change my thumbnail or the "file type" of a folder. So when I'm just dealing with documents, it wants to change it to "Pictures and videos"... why the heck do I need to rate a document from 1 - 5 stars?

And who misses the "Icon" thumbnail type? Seriously, I use that for EVERYTHING on XP, and now it's just... gone.

Vista also seems to be a massive resource whore. It sucks up a HUGE amount of RAM at any one time. When I want to run a game, I have to make sure to disable visual themes, close a bunch of programs, and a bunch of other things just to have enough RAM to barely play a game. On XP, I'd just double-click the icon without clicking twice.

Guess I need one more GB.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

How much RAM do you have at the moment?

1 GB, at the moment. It's fine for almost everything I do. But when I try to run games (like H2V or Gears of Windows), I have to disable so many things, and close so many programs. Though, older games like H1PC run fun, it just won't cut it for the newer, more hardware intensive games.

I always find myself on the Task Manager, looking for processes/programs that suck up the most RAM, and I kill them before getting on a game. When I play, I notice my RAM is being pushed to the limit, and I'm just right under sucking up 1 GB of total RAM (which is exactly how much I have). When I played H2V without disabled visual themes, and killing a BUNCH of programs, the game would take forever to load. And when I played campaign, it'd be at like 1 FPS. Then I tried killing a bunch of programs and disabled visual themes, and I had enough to play the game quite well. And regardless of that, when I alt+tab out, it takes me about a minute before I can do anything because my system is fighting over RAM with H2V. Which can usually be fixed by going back in H2V, and alt+tabbing out, and it works fine/fast. Not sure why it does that. On XP, I could alt+tab out, and my OS would run just fine.

Though, on XP, when I got H2V working, I could just double click that icon, and not have to have a second thought about RAM. And I remember trying to play HL2 Ep.1, and it ran like CRAP. Framerate hiccups everywhere, slow... and unbearable. On XP, buttery-smooth =]

That's not to say Vista is a bad OS, per se... but things like that can get irritating. Though, most of my problems are probably from a lack of RAM. I guess I need 2 GB to run game son this computer =[

Well there is your problem, 1 GB is ancient now-a-days and it's not surprising that you think Vista is using a lot of resources considering you have damn near none to offer. 2GB has been reccommended for even XP for years and it's been the unofficial minimum requirements for vista since it came out. As for why vista is using all your ram it's for a feature called pre-fetch where it loads your most used programs into RAM so they start faster and when a program needs the ram. You should try crysis, the game itself uses more than a gig of ram ^_^
