Before the release of KOTOR II we had both shared our feelings on the game. He expressed an almost fanatical love for the game he hadn't played, and to counter I looked at some of the screens and came to the conclusion it wouldn't rival the first.
His prediction was correct, it was awesome. Though, to save myself, his prediction was also incorrect because he came to his decision based on the wrong reasons - which is to say, absolutely none at all. What we had to judge from were a collection of graphically inferior screenshots, a relatively unknown developer and a release date that put KOTOR II at only a year away from the original. I'd say my original opinion that it would be a flop was the best - was it wrong? Yes. However, I took information I had and made a decision - he used blind faith, based on nothing but his own imagination.
Anyway. Kotor II is great. I haven't beaten it yet (I'm about 26 hours into it), but so far I've enjoyed it. The graphics are noteably terrible, and the gameplay many times feels buggy, but I love the story and philosophical twists some of the characters throw on things. This game presents brand new perspectives to the Star Wars universe that make it much more refreshing and interesting. The 'influence' system also makes it great fun to play - based on your actions and conversation choices you can effectively influence your allies to follow your footsteps. If a character in the last game swung good or evil, they stayed that way. This creates much more depth to the moral tree. I can't wait to see how your decisions can pan out.

(my favorite innuendo thus far has been, "board her loading ramp" - or somesuch. It left me laughing for a good five minutes)
