Subject: Members In The Spotlight

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

This kind of just hit me the other day. I was looking in the 'Groups in the Spotlight' section and I noticed my chapter was there. Could we possibly have a 'Members in the Spotlight' section?

Moderators/Administrators of B.net could put together a group of members to keep an eye out in certain areas of B.net:

Seventh Column Advisors
1.xxxxxxxxxx
2.xxxxxxxxxx

Bungie Community Forum Spotlight Advisors:
1.xxxxxxxxxx
2.xxxxxxxxxx

Bungie Genral Forum Spotlight Advisors:
1.xxxxxxxxxx
2.xxxxxxxxxx

and so on.....

At the end of each week, the advisors will submit a member that he/she thought stood out from all the others and the moderators and administartors will vote on like 10 who they think deserve the honor.

Constructive criticsm is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if you're joking or not but I pray to GOD "elitism" doesn't diffuse this suggestion.

Not exactly. Just something to get members to be a little more professional in the forums. Something to work for.

Half the time even I don't know if I'm joking.
But in this case I sort of am.

Though I really don't think this sort of thing would last long before those running it got bored.

Yes, but the people running could get some perks. Like a custom rank. Maybe a custom avatar. Something along those lines.

People's words can only effect you if you let them do so.

Definately not.

The people running this should do so because they would want to, not because they want the perks that come with it.

Once again giving me a hard time. ;)

I agree, they shouldn't work for the perks. The perks would be, I don't, kind of like a sign that they are being trusted by the ones higher up on the food chain. ow tell me, would you take it for granite if you were chosen as a trusted member?

I don't think Elitism applies to this suggestion, although it could occur, people nominated in these spotlights would(hopefully) not let the commendation go to their heads.

However, corruption and apathy could destroy it. Let me elaborate on that:
If we're going by member's choice, it would lead to people just choosing their friends, someone they think is funny, a troll for kicks, etc.
Most probably wouldn't even vote, and then there's the chance of people just voting for themselves.
If it was in the hands of the moderators, it could work out better, but then that could lead to favoritism, and even more ass-kissing.

A worthy idea, but carrying it out and maintaining its purpose would be difficult.

You do all realise that elitism will never be crushed out? It is incentive and necessary. I blame the lack of motivation as the primary reason we have so many alt accounts and spammers. If they had something to work for they wouldn't throw away their accounts. The challenge is deciding what rewards to give.

Custom ranks and avatars make the place cluttered and hard to navigate. I think something like an exclusive forum where you only get access through continued positive actions in the community. As soon as trouble starts there, that user loses the ability to see that forum. Elitism is a pointless argument for this because as soon as elitism is exhibited, the elitist loses the very thing they held over the other member.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I don't really think of this idea as elitism. It's like getting your picture taken with a celebrity.

You and your elitist orange text...

I've said on countless occasions that "elitism" is never really the problem...people being ass-clowns are. As soon as someone with a custom title ever did something like hoarding it over people... they get hammered, and hammered harder because they obviously should have known better.

You always did have a way with young men.
On a relevant note that doesn't involve Duardo's kinky behavior, I think this is a great idea.

Like a entire forum that only chosen members are allowed to veiw or a chapter. HFCS is the moderators secret alchohol depot. Would the chosen ones get a private chapter? Is that what you are saying?

Ok, if an moderator sent you a message saying "You have hand chosen by B.net moderators for your honesty and for the amount of trst they have in you to join a team of members thats runs a little thing called 'Members in the Spotlight'." Would you take the oppurtunity to impress the moderators/administrators with the task they have given you? Or would you just be like "Whatever" and abuse the oppurtunity that has been given to you?

I definately would not take it as granted, then. I'm well aware that most of the upper hierarchy has little trust over the members here, and that Achronos in particular despises the thought of any kind of middleground position between Moderator and Member. If something like this would be created in the near future, I'd be surprised that it was actually implemented, let alone if I were to be selected.

Just knowing that someone thinks me to be useful is enough to keep me happy for a while.

Not exactly trust either. I mean, the chosen people, ones who are decent on the forums and don't break the rules, would be placed o the team but not given enough power to screw things up. Two members of the top of my head that would fit perfectly would be xFoman123x and SS_Zag. Sure, moderators probaly can't trust them 100% but they can trust them enough to help run it. You never really trust something 100%, it is just instinct.

Oh I don't disagree with that reasoning, I just think that if some form of "trusted members" program would be creadited, it could be better utilized. Though I'm really not fond of a "council" idea. Too much work and not enough gain. A member spotlight could much easily be done using a private group, rather than a regulated and monitored council, or whatever term you'd like to use.

Yes, but why put so much effort into a chapter that won't even garuntee more than 50 views a week. A chapter would need tons of members to join in order for it to be as publicized as the Group Spotlight. It needs to be given to a much larger audience, much like the Group Spotlight. And yes, it is much like a council but it would also be an honor to be chosen to help run it or to ben chosen as a spotlit member. It would be a weekly or montly thing so that the "council" members would be able to continue their normal "Bungie Lives".

By suggesting a group, I meant that the members of the group decided upon the spotlight member to be published, rather than creating a seperate Public Forum Security Role in addition to the private group they'd need to discuss selectees.

I'm just saying that creating a new title and perks for a few members isn't necessary for this kind of program. As you said, it should be an honor, and honor that should be reward enough, to be able to participate in such a thing.

That's how I view it, I guess.
