Of course. the index finger is used for this purpose regardless of button configurations. It is nice however to configure the controller how you like. And i likes my left trigger to do the jumpin.

Maybe it's not being kept confidential, it just hasn't been considered important

Green Thumb is my way. The right stick to melee and B to zoom. Works perfect. and you usaully stop anyway to zoom in.

I started on default, inverted, because Halo was my first FPS, other than playing at my uncle's. :) I tried boxer the other day, but I kept blowing myself up. Actually, for me there is no need. I have the FPS Master Controller, so I can look around and melee at the same time. It's really weird when I play without it. I keep going for the buttons on the sides. I've been playing about 4 months straight with it. It's reaaal nice.

The controls....? Not important....?

Heresy!!!!!

The controls are just about the only solid thing (excluding LIVE lagg) standing in the way of this game being the Greatest!

Everything looks, and so far sounds like its there. I think for most default-ers the game can not fail. But for us alternate control folk.... There is a chance our outstanding multiplayer abilities and endless hours of Halo1 practice will be down the drain if we are forced into the awkward, default way of life.

i play legacy w/ default buttons, for some reason it is just what i picked when i bought th game, but now i move so fluently and flawlessly. One thing that realy tics me off is game that give you 1 controler setting and make you get used to it, it maks me sick. Good gamer are ruined because of the lack of customizable controls. Termiator 3 fps, i just sold it for $7 because of the $h1t control options.

Bungie, please include all of the origanal settings and even more if possible. Dont ruin a good game

WTF is the point if you cant even move across a fugin room

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one worried about control set-ups in Halo 2. Fully customizable set-ups would undoubtedly make everyone happy. Timesplitters 2 and Red Faction are great examples of how to offer fully customizable set-ups. Check them out.

By fully customizable, I mean fully customizable. Any D-pad direction, button, trigger or analog stick click should be able to be mapped to any function in the game. Let the player come up with any crazy set-up he/she wants. It'll really make players feel like they've invested something in the game and that they can have a part in shaping their gaming experience.

GreenThumb offers the only control setting where you can shot your weapon, throw gernades, and melee all without having to take your thumbs off of the control sticks. This means that for people who use the B button for anything have to take their finger off of the control stick causing them to stop aiming if only for an instant (this makes a difference). The only setting where the B button is not one of your offensive attacks obviously makes the best setting. If you don't believe me give GreenThumb a try. I did and have never looked back...

So did I. So did I.

It would make things easier for bungie and make people happier if you could Customize our controls to every exact button like in Medal of Honor: Frontline. And have you customize a different setting for vehicles.

A post I have just read about the sprint and peek function has reignited my interest in this controller topic.
If bungie do decide to include the sprint and the peeking function, they must seriously consider fully customizable controller settings. Especially if the “alternating voice channels” feature for LIVE is to fit in there somewhere. The controls for a game can make or break it. With all these new additional control features I often worry that it may be too cumbersome and lose that simple elegance that halo1 graced us with. Don’t forget that everyone is here, daily, discussing this game because of our love for Halo1. No other reason! Changing the controls and functionality of the original game can be a lot more detrimental that beneficial.

Think about it!

The developers need to read this.

Well said.

Yeah I think they need to have a good solution to this problem. my flag runner plays with boxer and I can't afford to lose her. Lucky the guys at Bungie are geniuses and can figure this stuff out.
