Right now the files forums are kind of pointless. This is because stuff gets bumped up for POSTING not downloading. In the H3 files forums, if somebody downloads a file, it should recieve a bump up to the top. IF somebody downloads it means they liked it enough for them to watch/look at it which is why the files forum is all about. Otherwise, you feel obliged to post an idiotic comment that makes no sense at all if you downloaded the content.

If it was changed to only recieving a bump when somebody downloads it then people would stop bumping their own threads.

There isn't really a way this could be abused. Maybe Bungie could stop the thread author from downloading the item. If somebody is going to spend $6 on alternative one month XBL accounts.... let them waste their money (this would be so they could redownload over and over, etc).

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

People would simply repeatedly download their own files. At least now we can see those that bump themselves, and punish them.

If the download was logged to a unique 360, then I would be for it.

In other words, 100 unique downloads gets 100 bumps, but 100 delete from your console and redownload gets nothing.

My thought has always been to allow users to sort posts on their own in that forum. The default sort method would be be recent replies, but users could also choose to sort files by recent downloads, most downloads, or best rating (which would first sort by stars and then by votes). That way, users would be discouraged to bump in any way because they would know that users could easily get around to seeing good maps by using a different filter. Although if we could trace download bumps to one per 360, then that would be great.

Every x360 has an "IP" adress of sorts... Microsoft has began issuing CONSOLE bans which means they have a way of identifying consoles. A much easier way would be "unique downloads to XBL Gamertag" that is much more simple.
