I was trying to think of a reason why the Forerunner are not the ancestors of humans... i was thinking back to when someone posted a picture of what looked like a Forerunner hand scanner... the handprint had two thumbs... some one also said maybe its so someone can use their left or right hand... well either lefties were more common for the Forerunner or im right, and thats how one of their hands were... ok, two thumbs, i though, "Hey, don't Elites have what seem to be two thumbs?" (remembering back to seeing my character's hand on a sword)... so maybe the Forerunner are the ancestors of the Elites... The prophets may have feared that the Elites would learn to much about their heritage, and overthrow the Prophets... so they bring in the Brute and the protectors of the prophets... As long as i remember the Elite's hand correctly, my theory makes some sense... insults/comments welcome.

Elites don't have two thumbs. The idea of right or left hand makes more sense.

on the mission before qarintene zone when you get on the plat form to power down the shields theres a hand button with 5 fingers and it is compleatly sumetricle(unlike the human hand) but elite only have 3 fingers.

The Forerunner could have evolved to have only one thumb, or be assymetrical. Their species wouldn't have stayed exactly the same after the detonations of the Halos and after billions of years.

Guilty Spark isn't totally omniscient. He wouldn't know if some Forerunners lived. After all, some life lived to evolve into the Covenant, and the Flood still survived.

But the Flood survived with, ahem, 'no food'.

SPOILERS

This has probably been posted before all over the place but 343 Guilty Spark said: "All sentient life within (some number I can't remember right know) radius of the rings died, as planned, thus rendering the parasite harmless." Meaning, that without being able to make more combat forms, the Sentinels could easily destroy/contain the flood. Guilty Spark is all about containment. Now comes the Arc. The Arc is built before activating the rings to be inulnerable to the rings' blasts, or exist outside the blast radius, and contain the Forerunner designated to survive, reproduce, and "Reclaim" the Forerunner empire. Humans = forerunner. Now, the retarted Covenant comes along, saying "Oh look! Stuff we've never seen before, and can't explain. Let's worship its creators like gods, and copy their inventions. LOOK! A ring. Let's play with it even though as far as we know, it could destroy the universe. Oh dear, what's this suddenly comming out of a hole in the ground and wrapping its tentacles around my spinal chord? Gee, more stuff we can't explain, only this stuff seems to be killing us. Hmm..."
And so the Flood was released. Killing their food wasn't supposed to starve the Flood, just leave them with no combat forms so they could be contained.

That is pretty solid......It never says the Flood was destroyed....Because the Flood is a Parasite not a living being. Without hosts the Parasites can only evolve so far....The Infection Form. Those could be contained by non-biological entities such as Sentinels....As stated above.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Well, the forerunner were experimenting on the flood. Maybe they found a way to sustain them without food. Even making one non-food dependent infection form could have worked. After all, it only takes one infection form to hit someone and spawn a whole flood of more. No pun intended.

I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks this, but I think that this idea is way too farfetched. Just my opinion. I expect that the humans and covenant slowly moved into the galaxy (radius of explosion) after the initial wipe out over a period of millions of years. On second thought thist idea is even more farfetched than the original one. I'll just shut up now.
