We have all seen it, the person that asks a question that was just asked by 30 other people, and the nice way we all remind them to use the forum search.
Heck I've been one of those idiots, but the problem isn't always that I (we) haven't tried to use the search feature, the problem is that the search feature sucks.

When doing a search you have only two choices, you can search Forums - All, or Forums - Author. This is very limited and often times gives you 20 results all in the same thread that are all asking the same question that you were looking for an answer to and no actual answer.

I've seen two major upgrades to the Bungie website, yet the search feature doesn't seem to have been touched. If Bungie added the ability to search each particular forum by thread title, or the actual content I think that we'd see a lot less posts asking the same questions over and over.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a forum strictly for Forge.

Any other suggestions that would improve the Forum search?

Please don't suggest that Bungie shouldn't work on this because you want more downloadable content instead.

I could be wrong but I don't think the guys that maintain the website are the same ones making new Halo maps or other Bungie projects.

It would be nice if there was an advanced search button.

Had you used the search feature, you could have seen that Achronos confirmed that the web team does indeed also write game code. Just kidding on the search feature part :-)

I agree with you completely. There have been a lot of these threads about the search feature, and I continue to say that whenever the web team has time, it would be nice as a side project if they could upgrade it. Ideally, it would be cool if they could implement the following:

More Advanced Boolean Terms: For example:
* "or" feature (example: "'trip mine' or 'tripmine'")
* Certain words within "n" terms of each other (example: "trip /3 mine")
* "But Not" (example: search for "'trip mine' and valhalla but not 'beta'")

Restrict Search to Certain Forums: Including searching within multiple forums (example: searching for a thread in either the Community or the Halo 3 Forum)

Search Group Forums: Not really necessary for most groups, but some groups contain dozens or hundreds of pages of threads -- far too many to search through by hand.

Restrict Search by Date: Search for threads created before a certain date, after a certain date, or between certain dates

Sort Responses by Date, Author, or Size of Thread: Currently, the responses are sorted by relevancy, which is inconvenient for many purposes

Restrict Search by Threads that are Unlocked: When searching for a discussion that you want to contribute to, it's not helpful to get a search response that contains threads from four or five months ago

There are others as well, but I think that these features would be pretty helpful to improve searching within the forums.

Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL

There needs to be everything in Foman's senselessly long post as well as an improvement to the existing parts of the search feature. I can't properly stock Frankie because the "More Posts by This User" button searches for everyone with the word Frankie in their name. It also justs craps out on names with spaces in it like Just Another Fan.

Also, searching by both users and search terms at the same time would be nice. Sometimes I want to find one of the rare witty sayings by certain members, but I am not able to with the current limitations.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Yes. Searching for names with spaces (and maybe sometimes numbers? I don't remember) doesn't work. I'll get 0 results even though I just saw the guy post. I don't understand why, but sometimes it just won't get results at all. I also would like for the search to go past 999 results. Yes, it's a make-shift post counter, but does it really matter? I would like to know how much time I have wasted on this website, and I doubt it would be a serious problem since it's not a number attached to your profile.

Plus whatever Foman said.

The 'more posts by this user' feature should really go by UID.
I think per-forum searches are the most pressing, followed by alternative sorting methods.

I've been saying the search engine needs an update for months. We need advanced search features as well as the ability to search specific forums as well as file share searches.

It gets really frustrating when you're trying to search for something and it always comes back with 0 results even though you KNOW you saw it/posted it.

Search seems really slow now too.

Great Ideas, and none should be all that hard to implement. I also wanted to bump this

Sure why not. It would be nice to be able to search for things by forum and by member.

Yes! bungie's search engine should be scrapped and started from scratch, that thing is a waste of HTML. It never works right, I can never find what I need. EVER!

btw...what does "bump" mean????
