Subject: A new forum for Halo story

This is a pitch to the forum mods and all b.net community members.
I think it would be very beneficial for the halo community to have a seperate forum were the only the halo plot is discussed. I know there are certain groups who already do but there are only a few thousand people involved in such groups and they struggle to get new active members.
The halo 3 forum is too crowded for plot discussion as the threads about bugs/complaints insure that a lot of good story threads are instantly sent to page 2. I see a lot of people on the forums who know little about the halo story because there are no places for them to go to straight away to get educated , people even get flamed for not knowing things in the halo 3 forum. Why ?
The creation of a story forum would ease some of the traffic in the halo 3 forum and provide a place where casual halo players can learn and hardcore theorists can discuss.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

You do realise "only a few thousand people" constitue the largest private group here on Bungie.net?

We've got enough forums as it is; no "Halo story" forum is needed. I think you'll be surprised that there are enough people who know what they are talking about in the Halo 3 forum and in the private groups to satisfy your questions and theories.

Compound intelliegence is 3887 people and is the largest group by far, I think. Even though the groups appear big they are mostly innactive. You could count the number of regularly active members on both hands in CI.
Maybe they satisfy you, but there are some out there whose discussions reach beyond your everyday story threads. I have seen theories that would make your head explode but they are only seen by a few people. And these theorists need to be heard by the rest of the community, A common place were they can be appreciated because it's pretty disheartening for a theorist to have no audience.

Life is a cube, Member. You've got to look at everything from every angle.

If your advocation of a new forum for Halo theory manifests itself, then others will do the same for equally pertinant desires.

New forums for Fan-fictions, Fan art, Clans/Organized gaming groups, Future Halo games, and possibly many more would need to be created. You really willing to have all of those, 'cause I sure am not.

I am willing. And some of those forums will be made in time.

And you shouldn't call me 'Member'. Don't speak down to me.
I know you are a good ,experienced member of the community. But so am I. "Know me before you judge me"

A cube ?
I can see it from my angle- A place to post opinioms and theories
I can see it from my friends angle- A place to post opinions and theories
I can see it from the moderators angle- They have to police another forum, but it should be a clean forum and releave stress in other places.
I can see it from the everyday users angle- A place were they can go to discuss story.
I can see it from Bungie's angle- A forum were they can see what we are thinking.
Thats several angles.

It's not a pertinant desire. It's just a suggestion and I just want to see what the moderators and other users to think about it. If no one thinks it's a good idea then obviosly it isn't. Lets just wait for some other opinions.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

The Halo 3 forum is for that. We don't need another forum. Moderators have said several times that the more forums, the harder their job is. Adding a new one will in no way make it easier, only harder. If your theory is good enough, or lucky as it is in the H3 forum, then it will get noticed and discussed. That is the place for Halo story discussion.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Unfortunately, the problem is popularity. In the Halo 3 Forum, the front page or two pages are dominated by the topics that are of the most interest to the masses; namely, multiplayer playlists, achievements, and gameplay. Halo Universe/Storyline/Plotline threads receive some attention, but not a lot at the moment. Back before the release of the game, such threads were much more popular because the storyline was on people's minds a lot more. Nowadays, many people are less concerned with the story than they are about their own achievements and skills.

You're right about CI; activity is low considering the number of people in the group. That was to be expected -- the storyline is simply not of as much interest to people as other elements of Halo. But considering the size of the group, the low amount of activity is a good indicator that a public Halo Storyline Forum would not be very active either.

In my opinion, the private groups that discuss theories are the best place to go. There, storyline and universe can be discussed in a more intimate, controlled setting, and your thread won't fall off the page in two minutes. I don't think that a public forum would be any more conducive to discussion, although it would be MUCH more conducive to spam and off-topic posting.

Thats Right I Was Banned For Watching The Webcams Too Much!Combat Arms - X647"He who'd walk a mile just to hold an empty hand, knows what it means to be a wealthy man."
Skin This Place Alive...

Remember that quote "If you build it, they will come"
Same applies here.
Bungie wont be making custom forums for people, thats why they gave us the ability to create groups.
If people are really interested in the halo story line and want to discuss it, they will seek you out.
You may not get the 10,000 member following that you want, but not every group can be called a success based on numbers.
I run the WEBCAM TV forum, we maxed out at around 140 people and have been slowly losing members.
I consider it a success just because they people who wanted to get into it, did.

Take your Group and plug it now and again into related topics in the Halo 3 and other forums. Let people know there is a place for them to discuss the story and learn more.

Build it....or I will :P
