Hey guys, I just purchased a widescreen projection HDTV, and it's awesome, especially when you have the screen split vertically. But I was wondering if I have to do a special trick to make it run in 480i? Below is a quote from Bungie:

"If you're lucky enough to own an HDTV or EDTV set, you can play Halo 2 in enhanced 480p resolution, for a sharper, clearer picture. The game also supports the 16:9 widescreen format on appropriately equipped televisions. The cool thing about widescreen is that it allows players playing two-player split-screen (either co-op or multiplayer) to split the screen vertically. That means a more natural screen ratio for each player and a great use of the widescreen format. To enable that feature, you must activate the "Widescreen" option in your Xbox Dashboard before starting the Halo 2 game. Likewise, to disable the vertical split, deactivate the "widescreen" option in the dashboard."

So how do I set it up for 480p? Or does it automatically dedect it?

you have to have the HD AV pack and then set it up in your xbox dashboard under video settings. and beware of "burn-in" with your projection tv.

-S

To turn on 480p, turn on your XBox with no game inside, and go to settings -> video settings.

Hey Thanks a lot! I'll try it tonight! What option do I choose under video settings? Also, what did that one guy mean by Burn in? Will I burn images on my TV? How can I prevent this.

Thanks in Advanced!

i would also, if your budget allows, purchase the component monster cables. they are a little more pricey than the xbox hd pack, but look alot better. burn in occurs when a static image is left on the television for an extended period of time; water marks, letterbox bars. you may have a small burn in with the radar, and things on the screen that are always there. what kind of projection is the tv? crt, lcd, dlp, lcos?

I have an RCA Widescreen rear-projection (no LCD, CRT, DLP...don't have the cash for those,) but anyways, am I guarenteed to have burn in??? If so then I don't want to ruin my TV. But doesn't that only happen to old tvs? Mine is brand new...Damn...I bought this thing for HALO :).

ok, your tv is a crt projection. so, unfortunatley, you may get some burn in. if so, it will probably be minimal. keep in mind, everyday standard tube televisions, crt projections, and plasmas all can have images "burned in". even though this problem is legit, it has lately become somewhat over-rated due to the fact that many of the newer television formats, such as lcd, lcd projection, and dlp's do not have burn in. therefore, these newer tv types are advertising no burn in as a sales pitch. so.... as long as you dont have a static image left on your screen for extended periods of time, you should be fine. plus, the only static images that i can think of on halo2 are that of the shield meter and radar, and they are somewhat transparent, so it shouldnt be that big of a problem. hope this helps

Hey! I too have a HDTV that is CRT. To circumvent any possible chance of burn in, I make sure that I press the Back button occassionally to bring up the score board. As you know, this will make the shield, radar, and ammo all fade out, leaving nothing on the screen but the world and the score. To get any serious burn in you would literally have to stand in one place for a very extended amount of time or leave the XBox on the title screen. It's funny that I'm writing this right now, for Halo is sitting at the title screen...but the TV is off. I do that a lot as well.

See you on LIVE.
