An open window. I must eat the horizon?
A few years back, we experienced an ice storm that knocked out power in most of central Oklahoma for almost a week. Now, not everyone lost power after the first night. My family was one of the lucky ones who didn't. Well, until the next day. It gave us an extra day to heat up the house. But I'm rambling. The night we lost power, it was very sudden. No flickering lights, power surges, or brown-outs, it just went *click* and it was gone. I thought nothing of it, since we all knew it was coming. But then, something very strange occured. A bright light flashed through my window, brighter than a hundred mag-lights. At first, I thought it was the transformer station lights coming on, but it wasn't sustained. I thought very little of it, until it happened again 5 minutes later. Except this time, there were two shadows cast against the opposite wall. Now, me being the pansy I am, this caused me to freak out and bury my head in my pillow and covered myself up.
And then the tapping on my window began.
I started hearing voices as well, but they were very quiet, and I couldn't understand them. The light flashed again, and there was another shadow against the wall. The tapping got louder, almost as if they were tapping with a balled up fist. This continued for almost half an hour, until I was so scared out of my skin, that I almost screamed for it to go away. I gathered up enough of my testicular fortitude, and quickly raised my blinds, and banged on my side of the window. I heard the most unearthly sound I'd ever heard (I always though the scream of a mountain lion would top my list forever), and the tapping stopped, as did the voices, and the light. Ever since then, my bed has never been against that wall, and every time we have a snow or ice storm, I put a special cut board up over my window. I've done a lot of things in my short 19 years, smelled that dank, rotten odor of a carnivore you can't see, found mutilated cows while hunting, found strange footprints in the mud, but none scared me as much as that night.
