Me and my friends were staying in this old house that one of my friends had just moved into. We had to stay in this spare room because the rest of the house was undergoing renovations. It was a beautiful old house, and it was me, group of buddies and my friend's dog. So we were all in the spare room, just floorboards, peeling wallpaper, spatters of paint; all the rooms in the house were like this, basically completely bare because the builders were still at work, they'd left some of their plastic sheeting around, paint pots, step ladder.
We had the 38 inch TV though, so we were watching films on it, nothing else in the room except us and this big wardrobe which had come with the house, but it was locked with a really old lock and there was no key.
We were watching a war movie and I remember it quite vividly, because some guy was shouting "Fall back, fall back!" and there were explosions cooking off when suddenly the TV went black with this weird electrical snap. It made us all jump. Now it was completely black because we had had the lights off to watch movies, and everybody was like turn the lights on in whispers - not because we were scared but because we wanted to see if there was a full powercut so we could watch the rest of the movie. So we were whispering and fumbling in the dark when suddenly there was this creak and the wardrobe behind us was open. It was quite a warm night even though we had the windows open but the room got really cold.
One girl was like "This is creepy, lets go to another room," so we were all kind of unnerved and followed her out to go to the kitchen or someplace else, maybe grab some food, and hopefully go and reset the fusebox. We walked out over the plastic wrapping put down by the builders, kind of hurrying and bumbling round in the dark. The kitchen was locked because the builders had been painting or doing some work so my firned got out this big bunch of old keys which opened all the rooms in the house and tried to open it - he got it wrong a couple times because it was dark.
Then somebody was like "Shh, listen," and we all stopped talking because there was this rustling noise, like somebody walking on the wrapping the builders put down. In the moonlight from the hallway you could see these idents in it like somebody was walking heavily towards our position but nobody was there, and we hadn't left any marks on it. And slowly more indents appeared, coming our way. That was the scariest thing, so we ran upstairs into an unlocked room and locked the door - the dog was asleep in this room but looked up when we came in. She was a Weimaraner, I don't know if that's how you spell it. So my friend locked the door and we all waited, absolutely quiet. A car went past, and the light played across the walls and ceiling, but nothing else. But all the time the dog was watching the door, her eyes were kind of glazed, and she started to breathe heavily. Slowly she started to growl, while taking these deep, shuddering breaths, I've never seen a dog behave like that and then she started barking crazily at the door, and we were really scared by this time, and I swear the doorknob was turning like somebody was trying the door. After a while everything stopped, the dog whined a little and then licked herself like everything was normal. We stayed in that room, none of us got much sleep and in the morning when our parents came to get us and we left, or stayed for a bit longer, the wardrobe was locked in that room.
My friend's parents decided not to stay in the house, his dad was witha law firm so they moved round a lot anyway and often developed properties they bought and then sold them and moved.
Scariest thing ever. But one girl spent the night wrapped up next to me, she was the most freaked out and squeezed my arm or grabbed me everytime she heard a noise. That was kind of cool.
