OK, I doubt they will have a map "creation program" of some sort for HALO 2 on XBOX, but what about something more along the lines of map "editor". Meaning, you wont be able to create new maps, but just edit the maps already in the game. Below are some of the things I had in mind:
* SPAWN POINTS: You have the option of putting spawn points where you want. For example, an 8 player FFA slayer game played in Derelict where everyone spawns in the center of the map downstairs where the health pack is. For team type games however, you're not allowed to put opposing team respawn points within a certain distance from each other, or near / inside the enemy base. This also means you can place the spawn points of teleports.* ITEM PLACEMENT: You can place all items including, but not limited to, weapons, health, power ups, vehicles, and any other items in this category not yet revealed. Imagine the possibilities. 4 Covenant energy swords inside each team's base. The only sniper rifle in the center of the map, right next to the only ATV. You can even set the respawn times of each item to whatever you want. Pick up the rocket launcher, and 1 second later another one appears. Blow up the Banshee, and you wont get a replacement for another 5 minutes.* INANIMATE OBJECT PLACEMENT: Same as ITEM PLACEMENT, but with trees, boulders, stationary turrets, explosive barrels, and any other items in this category not yet revealed. OK, maybe the explosive barrels and stationary turrets aren't really inanimate objects, but you know what I mean. Also the quantity can be altered, but limited to a reasonable amount. For example, adding about 30 more trees in Blood Gulch can make quite an interesting game, whereas adding 30 stationary turrets in Wizard can be quite chaotic (and fun for 16 player FFA if you really think about it).

No. The only way to do map creation is with a PC. In-game map editors suck. Period. They need to support transfering mods from the PC to XBL.

But with my idea, you're not creating new maps. Just changing things up a bit. These things can easily be done with the XBOX controller, albeit it might take some time to get used to.

That is a good idea. The only thing is when you begin to increase the items/objects in the level. That would put a huge amount of pressure on the processor, and you would lose performance.

Well, I think it's a great idea, every time you play you could change the map to suit your own individual strategys and style. And, by the way, I think it would be awesome cruising around in the only ATV and then getting out where I want, using the bike for cover, while I'm carving up my foes. And, for that other guy that doesn't like it, think of tony hawks map editor. You can change all of the ramps and rails and what not, no limitations. But they would have to make it un-cheesy, so like, you can't place a huge boulder in front of the entrance to your flag. Not cheesy = good. Cheesy = bad.

I was thinking of that... maybe limit to however much that level can handle? or no more than 30 items (or whatever limit) total.

I think thats a great idea, but it would have to be toned down a bit like:
no more than 2 vehicles on each side of each kind. so only 4 ghosts 4atvs and so on
i don't think that you souhld be able to add 30 trees to ANY map. imagine going throught derilict thinth 10 trees in it. that would be -blam!-

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Your idea sounds a lot like Perfect Dark. I know for certain you could choose EXACTLY what weapons you wanted and where to put them... that idea is pretty good... but... not sure about the others.... the Spawn points have a lot of merit.

I don't like the idea of playing on some peoples specialized map that gives their team color a huge benefit. When the option is the hands of the player I can't see many examples where they will actually make it fair. Better to just stick with what Bungie has. Even if you had the ability to filter modified games, I'd rather have more available good games.

Well, as your signature says, I hope you never work for bungie. You would ruin great games. Halo 2 would be an excellent game if they included this persons amazing idea. I guess your to used to jumping to conclusions. Thats what everyone immedeitly does around here. New idea, may as well shoot it down anyway.

Hahahahahaha. So because I don't like his idea, I therefore don't have good ideas myself? Good logic, you should be a lawyer. This isn't even worth arguing.

BTW, wouldn't you be the one jumping to conclusions by claiming from one opinion of an idea that I jump to conclusions? Hmmmm.

Alerus, I see what you're getting at about having maps uneven and biased towards one team... those are the ones I wont play... I've put over 200+ hours of map making for StarCraft and if my crazy idea somehow came true, then believe you me I will make really good, even maps. i mean come on, where's the fun in playing a game in which you have too much advantage?

In theory I think your idea is great, customization is fun when done fairly. The problem is, the majority of the people will use this feature to give themselves an advantage (put the other team massively far away from where they need to be, put the great weapons next to them, give themselves all the vehicles, etc, etc..). Then you have people who try to use it fairly but end up doing a terrible job. So now you're left with a very few selective people who can make a good version amongst a mass crap or purposefully rigged maps.

Here are a couple possible modifications that might make this work.

1) Make an approval system by the players in the game for the map. They must review the map layout before the game begins (or at least click to and hit okay if they are lazy).

2) Take out spawn placement and item placement. A form of item placement could be done where you say change this item spawn type to iteam x. In other words if a base usually includes 4 shotguns, you can change these to your energy sword and they automaitcally (and force) change the other bases shotguns to energy swords. Inannimate object placement might be tricky to handle, there would definitely have to be provisions (like density per area checks so you could either have multiple trees within a given area or 1 huge rock).

One or both of those might help, but otherwise I can sense a huge saturation of crap servers.
