with inspiration from halocrakaz poll about PS2, i want to know if anyone owns a PS2 that has broken and what sony did to fix it! This is because amazingly ive owned 3 PS2 and all have broken down on me and sony still refuse to do nothing. The first overheated after playing final fantasy and stoped working, sony told me i was playing on it for too long and what did i expect. Infact i played it for 10 mins. The second PS2 decided to eject the disk randomly through gameplay, one minute id be bashing away on gta next the disk would just eject!!! Sony decided to do something this time and asked to take my PS2 to find the cause. I said very well when do i get a new one (bearing in mind ive paid about £400 on PS2 so far) they said----- oh no you wont get a new one we will provide a reconditioned one. (which means a second hand one, and not a decent second hand one at that, one that has broken down before.). Well i had no choice and sent it off in the post. Six months yes six months later a redeived a PS2 with endless apolagies. Hooked it up and started playin. I played ff8 twelve hours straight and saved regulary, i turned it off and went to bed. Next day i turned it back on only to find that twelve hours gameplay did not save (it wasnt the memory card) iwas and am still furious with sony. So i got myself an x-box (because of halo) and its played nice ever since, ive got all my albums on it and its hooked up to a sweet surround sound system. Ive had no trouble with it. Never again will i buy a product with sony onit !!!! VIVA LA MICROSOFT!!! How about you?? Have you had any trouble with consoles??

i bought my PS2 used. it worked great, exept that it didn't like t run devil may cry. i sent it in, sony cleaned it up, and i haven't had a problem with it since.

it was actaully my xbox that i had problems with. my first xbox worked great, ran fine, all that good stuff. then i dropped a 30" TV on it. smashed the disk drive. thank god there were no CD's in the drive.

i sent it in, and the GameStop that i bought it from agreed to send me a replacement. this replacement didn't work too well. it would freeze up after about 15 minutes of gameplay. so i sent it back, and GameStop sent me another Xbox.

this one was the worst of all. every time i put in a CD the little green light around the eject button turned either red or yellow, and the xbox would come up with and error message. so i got pissed, sent my xbox back to GameStop saying "screw you", and bought one from walmart.

this was about 9 months ago when i first moved to castle rock. ever since then, my xbox hav survived through car trips, dust, and personal anger. i think i've only ever bought 2 of the 5 games i've owned throughout my xbox career (i'm poor). i bought DDR: ultramix and Unreal championship. i got halo, mechassault, and splinter cell (the first one) for free. i sold splinter cell, tho.

I got my PS2 for x-mas, 2001. About a year later I decided to mod it and I did, with a 'Flip top' and not a chip. It worked fine for about another year with the mod but then the disk drawer would'nt open, so I could only play my games through the 'Flip top'. But then it stoped scanning all my games and dvd's completely. So I decided to take the modded top off, put the original one back on, and call Sony and tell them my PS2 is -blam!- up. When I called I simply told the rep my PS2 wasnt reading any games or dvd's, the service rep even asked if I had modded my PS2 and I told him yeah (dont ask me why), but to my surprise he gave me the address to ship my console and even waived the repair fee's. So if you ask me, PS2's are great, but I still ended up buying an X-box last year in November. There's no doubt about it, the X-box is the ultimate console. Where as I was quick to mod my 2, I'd never mod my Box, its too precious. :-)

I love my PS2. It's not the most powerful system on the market right now (the PC is, guys. Not the Box.) but it's pretty damned cool. The backwards compatability automatically makes it better than the Nintendo systems, and gives it an extreme advantage over the Xbox. Not to mention all the great games on it... Final Fantasy (most of them), Grand Theft Auto (all of them, including 1, 2, and the special addition London one.), Gran Turismo (guess what? All of 'em), Twisted Metal (all), and several exclusive RPGs (Lunar, Xenosaga, Drakenguard, Kingdom Hearts, and [I think] Vagrant Story to name a few).

I also must tell you that I've never had a problem with my PS2. I have an flip top and the hard drive. It has never not read a disk unless the disk was extremely scratched, and it still runs after being played for several hours straight, left on for days, droped, and rained on. I've never, ever had to send it in and I've only cleaned it three times since I got it (1999). Good system, me thinks. I believe you just had poor luck with yours.

But I could talk about the virtues of PS2 all day. Let me just say that I have several systems, including a PC, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Nintendo, and Super Nintendo, all of which I love. My PS2 is the only one I've never had trouble with, although I haven't had much with the Xbox, either. Well, there was that yellow/orange/green light thing, but it hasn't done that in a while... And it really didn't do anything the effect the games in anyway, so I don't think anything is wrong with it...

Final verdict: I love my PS2, and I think I'll keep it.
