Hi everyone, hope there is someone that can help me. I just bought Halo this weekend and it installed fine, I was able to play the Campaign perfectly. I then tried to play multiplayer game with some friends and Halo updates itself which I assume is V 1.06. When I restart the game I see the Halo splash screen and the three mini movies but where the Halo menu is suppose to appear I only see a black screen and some flickering so I can't play Campaign or Multiplayer, I do hear the sound and music though. The trial version worked for Campaign and multiplayer so I assumed the full version will work fine. I'm running Win XP SP2, with 32MB nVidia GeForce4 460 on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, I downloaded the latest driver from Toshiba since the nVidia site says to go to the laptop manufacturer for the latest driver. I really want to play multiplayer Halo!! Can anyone help!! Thank you!

Heyyo,

Glad to hear you picked up HaloPC, welcome to the maw forums btw. ;)

Ok, SP2 seems to hate a lot of games, Halo being one of them. Usually it's with newer videocards (stuff like FX5900 256MB of VRam), but there could be more like your videocard.

Ok, you said you tried the latest video drivers... I actually suggest trying to downgrade drivers, the newer forceware drivers seem to hate HaloPC.

Well, you can always try what M$ reccomends...

I myself started playing Halo PC this weekend. A friend gave it to me since he's playing Halo 2 on Xbox now.

Anyway, I had the exact same thing happen to me as well. I also run on a laptop, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 vid card. I was at a loss for what to do and then I realized that I could hear the little click noise from cycling through the menu. Hit enter and stuff hoping to make it to some screen other than black. Did this for a little while and ended up getting some update screen. Guess I'm running 1.06 now... ? Who the freak nows, man? Anyway, Maybe you can monkey around with it and get something to work out. Maybe I just have idiots' luck. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. :)

Sorry I can't be more help. I hope you get it running, dude.

Well I am back...thanks for the suggestions. I haven't gotten lucky yet with getting Halo MP to work but I hope I will. I did uninstall XP SP2 to see if that worked and it did not. I also followed the M$ suggestions and none of those worked. Although I did upgrade to the latest video driver, the driver is from 2002 so its pretty old to begin with. I reinstalled Halo and my Campaign is working again at least, it seems to stop working once I download that new update. Is there someway to just leave my Halo alone and not have to update at all so I can play Halo MP or can I use a lower update version. Thanks for the help!
