I <3 you too Bungie

800mp = $10

Say 500,000 of the million-and-whatever Halo 3 players buy the maps = $5,000,000

microsoft takes 20%? = 5,000,000-1,000,000= 4,000,000

tax takes 10% ? = 5,000,000-500,000= 3,500,000

bungie requires a reasonable 20% profit margin= 3,500,000 -(5,000,000x 20%)= 2,500,000

Assuming bungie makes the maps back to back and it takes 2.5 months to make a map that costs 833,333.33 per map/ 333,333.33 per month/ and will pay 13.3 people with a $120,000 salary during the time it takes to make each game.

I guess the price isn't too bad. I'm just hoping that the maps are good enough to justify the amount of work they put into them. :D

I <3 Bungie

P.S. I'm doing this with the understanding that my numbers are waaaaay off, but who cares, the end justifies the means...in my head. And come to think of it my corporate income tax should be more like 27% but probably more than half of Halo 3 players are gonna buy the maps, so it evens out.

One thing I'd like to see from bungie is clan support for halo 3. In my opinion, halo 3 will not have the playability that halo 2 did without it.

I has'es a Question.

I heard that u can place man cannons, all the foundry I tems and holodoors. Can we place them in other maps, like put man cannons on the other side of narrows, or put a holo-door on the sword room in the pit?

Sorry for double posting, but has bungie announced the *secret item* either?

  • 12.02.2007 4:56 PM PDT

what's next for bungie? will the Xbox originals Halo CE (the Downlodable one) have online multiplayer and guide features? 'cause if it don't have halo pc online multiplayer, what's the point? 99.97% of xbox owners already have it, and probably won't spend 15 bucks and valuble hard disk space when it could be used for H3 DLC.

when will you guys make a new Marathon?

Well, nice going! I`m just a little bit concerned about skill levels. For example: a friend of mine and myself were involved in a 3 on 2 matchup last night, click here for the stats of that game. We led almost through the whole match, but ended up losing 50-46 against a greater force in numbers. Now after the match I went down a rank (I even scored better than the best man form the oppsoing team!), as a reward for performing so well against greater odds. Things like this happen a lot, which is the only real complaint I have about online Halo 3. Keep up the good work!

Your the one that lost the game, technically. -4 Leader on your team had 0 K/D spread. Am I right?

Oh yeah, 5 maps for $10 dollars.

Thank you, Frankie, for quite possibly the most informative and helpful weekly update that I've ever read. It addressed almost every major forums issue, and, although the answers might not please everyone (something that's impossible to do anyway), the mere acknowledgement that Bungie does, in fact, contemplate the issues should hopefully placate the masses...for the time being. :P hehe. Anyways, thank you again.

Finally a new podcast!!!

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Good to know Bungie is keeping Halo 3 exciting for years to come through a very unique approach to updates.

I, like a lot of others here, are kinda disappointed there's no word about the podcast featuring Marty...you mentioned in a previous update that you were recording with him, but nothing has come of that. Perhaps some official word on whether or not that's happening soon?

Has anyone heard if this update is going to fix the Commando shoulders problem? That's the only issue I really care about right now as I am going for a full set of armors.

Yes, I have been to supermakets. They list the "unit price" then they list their price. That doesn;t happen here. In fact they don't even state whom sets the original price in the first place. Again, I REPEAT, Xbox Live TOS does NOT state they price the DLC. So, in essence, we are being lied to. Bungie in fact does set the price.

Bungie never said that MS set the price, they only said that accountants set it. If you think that the people at Bungie will spend 12+ hours a day developing a game and then, rather than going to sleep, spend another 5 hours balancing their books you are freaking crazy. Bungie pays other people to handle the money for them so they don't have to worry about it and those are the people that set the price.

P.S.
don't even state whom sets the original price
The proper word is "who" not "whom."

all's good except i have one single question regarding the DLC maps. if i recall correctly, with other 360 games i.e. gears of war, the DLC maps could be downloaded for each individual gamertag. example: i downloaded maps onto my gamertag profile (LORICH7) and my brother's gamertag was not allowed to play on them because his gamertag had not downloaded them yet. so basically im asking if in mine and my bro's case, would we have to pay 2x for us both to have the same package of DLC maps on the same 360? im sure this isnt something you can control, as the fact remains that the ability and characteristics of DLC were all assigned by microsoft; not bungie. anyways, thats about it. btw Standoff looks amazing and im really lookin forward to the release of the maps. keep up the good work, bungie. aaaauuuooooo *300 style*

The gun-lowering animation is worth the testing. or you could just make a machinima mode only. just get it in the game...you allow it in system link...things in the game are abused everywhere. I have never heard of the gun lowering button being abused. you just sound like you don't care at all or want to put the effort into something that IS very important to a BIG part of the community that has made Halo what it is.

I don't agree. As far as actual Machinima goes, the player should have to provide the tools required to record and make the actual film. If people like Rooster Teeth have to use there own equipment to make their movies, others should have to as well. Why, you ask? Let's say if Bungie does make a fully loaded Machinima mode? Do you know how many people would abuse that? For one, all of those people who make the Machinima equipment would lose their jobs. Second, most of you forget that Halo 3 is a FPS(First Person Shooter), not a game for Machinima. Really, that's what Film mode is for, though some of you have forgotten this. This is one of the reasons Bungie made this mode, for Machinima.

As far as the lower the gun "easter egg" goes, I agree with the players of Halo 3 that this doesn't really affect the overall gameplay, but I also agree with Bungie that this small problem is not a big deal/issue and doesn't really deserve the attention it's getting. As some people said during the "Map Announcement Forum", actions speak more than words, though I don't know what actions could be taken to get Bungie's attention on this. Plus, trying to fix this problem could cause more problems. Let's not forget the GoW patches... *shudders with cold chill*.

Really, you can still move up and down to make it look like your character is talking on Live, but I do agree the effect is not the same without the gun lower. Though some weapons offer a small lowering rate, such as the rip-off turrets. This is only a suggestion, not an answer.

I also saw someone suggest this: "If you don't like Halo 3, play Halo 2". I agree with this person. If you want to do Machinima with the gun lower, then go back to Halo 2. I agree with those who want to do Machinima on Halo 3 due to the better graphics and armor, but you're going to have to make sacrifices if you want the gun lower Easter Egg. Really, it's either:

A. Try different weapons in Halo 3 to see what gives the best gun lower rate, or...

B. Go into Halo 2 and deal with only one set of armor for both races and limited colors.

Or you can try to Mod, but now you can go to jail for that sort of thing, plus I'm pretty sure Bungie would get a bit mad for someone tampering with their pride and joy, so I don't advise this, unless you're willing to go to jail to make a movie.
