Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

Though i was temped by what i saw via xbl a halo movie without a doubt has got to be ANIMATED! Although the clips i saw were cool to try to do a full length live action movie wouldn't work. After just seeing the commercials for Beowulf i know animation is the way to go. Unlike live action you wouldn't
have to make any changes for any storyline to carry over to the big screen via animation. An added bonus: You wouldn't have to worry about whoever played master chief commiting the ultimate sin of showing his face on camera.
I disagree.
I recently saw Beowulf, and most people probably know that the movie is animated. While it wasn't terrible, it also has some serious flaws, related to that animation.
The fight scenes of the movie were animated very well, and they were cool to watch. However, that has a very large, inherent flaw: The actions of the main character were impossible. "Well, isn't fighting a dragon and punching it in the face just sort of like that?", you ask. Well, yes. But here's the thing. It wasn't that the actions were not possible per se, but that the movie completely and utterly failed to give the impression that they COULD be possible. This was due entirely to the animation style. When you're watching a cartoon person jump onto a cartoon dragon, that does not convey the idea that our hero was a real person, a real man who was performing superhuman feats. It just gives the inpression that this character could do these things, because he doesn't live in our world.
And that is why I think that a full length, feature movie done in CG would be a bad idea. Our hero is John 117, he is real. The warthog he drives is made of metal and rubber. The aliens he shoots are made of flesh and blood. This reality is not possible with animation as of yet.
In reality, a movie would probably be best done with a mixture of CG and live action. Most serious movies are taking this route, and it has turned out fairly well. The live action provides realism, and the CG, when done right, gives that dose of epic that so many movies are looking for.
