So, you want a place where people get to choose how a site is managed by themselves, for themselves?
Hmm, good on paper, but it simply won't work here. If you've used this site in depth, you'll understand that most of the people here don't care about order. They're here because Halo 3 is very popular. They only want to discuss Halo 3, they don't want to build and manage a community. Most of the people here can't seem to walk and chew gum at the same time. They are frequently immature and mean. Or they're so blatantly apathetic, that they simply don't care what happens here at all. Not all the users on this site fall into the above category, but a majority of them do, which partially negates your axiom.
Secondly, bans, warnings, and punishments are kept private in order to maintain the privacy of those who are being punished. A vote on whether or not someone should be banned or not will not only take too long, but it will also discuss things publicly that do need not be discussed publicly. If someone posts links to a shock site, are you going to flag it, then let everyone see and analyze it, then have a vote on it? In your model, that's exactly what you would do. While now, we can get rid of it as soon as possible. I think most of us will see which is more effective.
To the crux of your argument, what glaring violation of user rights have the moderators committed? They're usually very fair, and none of you (or us for that matter) have any rights here to begin with. Sure, we may be a bit harsh at time, but the forums themselves can be a bit harsh too. If you think an unfair action had occurred, contact a Master Moderator and point it out to them. If your issue is with a Master Moderator, there are still methods of appealing from there.
We need to be able to act quickly. We need the leeway to interpret the rules and CoC, and to use our best judgment in order to insure the rules are maintained. A democracy would not only take too long, but it would be a convoluted and superfluous mess. Its just a board after all, its not an actual municipality.
While I'm tempted to leave this open in order to allow others to smash this idea to pieces, I see no need to discuss this. I don't know if Achronos would give you a long post pertaining to why he'd never do this, or if he'd be blunt and say simply "No", but I know he'd say no to this. Its not an effective way to govern this site, and it certainly not needed. So, I'm locking this, because if you have any pragmatic sense, you'll realize that this is never going to happen.
