i believe the right to bear arms is enshrined within your constitution. Please understand this isn't derogatory (the UK doesn't even have a constitution) but is puzzling. Why do Americans feel the need to maintain weapons, Canada and Mexico aren't exactly renonwed for the aggressive attitude towards other nations and the indians don't really pose a threat to settlers any more.
I think it's the basic premise of the united states government, which at frst was to have the government serve the people, and protect the people from the government (Too bad no country is like that anymore)... part of this protection is the right to bear arms so that we have the power to resist the government should we deem it necessary. Oh yeah and americans like shooting stuff :P
Posted by: XenoformJAB I could understand if it were for recreational purposes, hell i'd like to try hunting myself, but why do you need a fully automatic assualt rifle for deer. Could some one give me an answer without swearing, patronising or death threats...
Fully automatic weapons are very strongly regulated, and have been since 1934. People feed others this bull about the 'assault weapons ban'... Well guess what? It only bans semiautomatic guns! Full auto guns are still legal as far as I know, just very very hard to obtain.... I think it requires a $10,000 deposit (non-refundable) and a federal backround check. And besides, that would be irrational... most deer hunters use High-powered bolt action rifles. Whateva.
