July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

Too many people bump their own threads in the file forums. Mostly because they want comments and ratings on their screenshots and stuff. Apparently, a large number of these people are new members who don't know any better (and don't even read the rules first). I just sent two people messages not to bump their threads anymore, and they both said they were new and didn't know.

So to clean up the forum, simply send people messages saying "Don't bump your thread, it's a bannable offense." Most of them probably don't know, and the moderators aren't fast enough to catch people in the act.

Instead of people making new topics to repost the same stuff because it got bogged down with all the other topics, why can't they bump after a day, or several hours?
I've done it before, waited a day or two, my topic went from no one noticing to 100 downloads. It's not bad, they just need good timing.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Bumping is against the rules, so no one should do it. I agree with the OP that his method is best. However, there isn't really anything that can be done to keep this from happening, and the mods have bigger things to worry about than bumps, I think. You can still PM them links with the bumped threads in them, and see if they are able to do anything.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I lock all the bumped threads I find in any forum. But its particularly bad in the files forums. I also warn ban depending on how many times they've been caught doing it.

I don't see anything wrong with PMing members to let them know that bumping probably is not a good idea. I suggest you're as nice and polite as possible when you do it though.

Thanks for the help.
