Subject: Mass Effect: Mature Rating

It's only one section at the end of the game. I've only done one section of it, and it gives you the idea, but it's blurry, nothing specific.
And if you wanted, you can skip it by turning he/she down, you can't press A or anything to skip through it if you decide to follow through.
I'd be more worried about the sporadic cursing.

And yeah, this belongs elsewhere.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

First of all, the game is rated M, so I don't know why you would let your children play it if you are afraid of the nudity they will see. Other than that, I do not know whether or not you can skip the cutscene. If you can't, just ask them to leave the room or get you something when it comes on. Also, the correct forum would have been The Flood, just for future reference.

yes, it's rated "M", which is 17 or older, for many reason. That scene is one of them.

Now, I'm guessing your small children aren't 17 or older, so I don't really know what you are complaining about. The onus is on you to watch what your children are playing so if you don't want them seeing this, don't let them play.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

This is the incorrect forum.

The M was mostly for the violence. There aren't even any nipples in the scene.

It's one scene, and that's it. Oh, and there are some strippers in the bar on the Citadel, but they're mostly clothed.

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this. If it is not then I apologize. I've been looking forward to Mass Effect for a long time, especially when I heard it was designed by the same folks that came up with Knights of the Old Republic, but now that it's out, I see that it has nudity in it. I have young children, and this concerns me. Could someone tell me excactly how pervasive this is in the game? Is it one cutseen that can easily be skipped by pressing A, or is it throughout the game?

Looking at my case, I see that it is rated M-17 for the following;

Blood
Language
Partial Nudity
-blam!- Themes
Violence

Actually, I recall very little of any of those occurring in the game. The incidents that I recall we brief, related to the plot and were (IMO) neither gratuitous or overblown. Other than the violence. There was plenty of that.

If violence (which there is plenty of) is not offensive to someone's parenting choices but somehow virtual skin is (that is less provocative than a Victoria's Secret commercial).... I would suggest that they read the game cases more closely, lest their children see something that they shouldn't, when they aren't engaged in trying to get their Achievement for "Dog of War" by killing 150 biologic opponents.

There was also some swearing if you went renegade.

The combat wasn't really all that violent either.
Shooting little shards of metal that disintegrate people? Getting -blam!-s n giggles by lifting then tossing people around?
The cutscenes using intimidate were probably more violent.

You are all loved beyond measure.
I, like you, am a light-sound-vibration complex that resonates with others. I have hopes and dreams and ambitions, just like you! I AM, and so are you! Yes, we are one and the same, you and I.

You'll only see the super-suggestive, rowdy promiscuity that is a talking head followed by a fade to black if you (or your kids) make the (in)appropriate choices in the game to lead to such scenes. I didn't see any nudity at all, or not that I can remember (besides the bar), during my playthrough.

That is: it's a hundred times less provocative than any kissy scene you'll see in, say, Jurassic Park or The Matrix. Don't worry about the silly ratings and warnings too much.

You say tomato; I say potato.

The sex scene wasn't pornographic. I recall seeing a woman's ass. If you wish to preview it to be sure your children are mature enough; I suggest looking through Youtube.

Some of the violence was rather dumbed down. I recall a scene of an execution in a side quest. the camera looks away during the execution and again when the person kills himself.

This game certainly deserves the rating it was given.

I think the ESRB is full of crap when it comes to honest rating. But again they are protecting the gaming industry from those stupid parents that use their kids to play it so they can sue them. I guess the ESRB is'nt that bad after all. then again they rated Guitar hero 3 for teen.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I found the Mass Effect forums and found out a little more. I think I'm going to skip this one. Is there a site out there that gives example by example of why a game recieves this or that ranking. I know they have them for movies, that lists every example of questionable material in the movie & gives it a rating of 1-10 in gore, violence, sex ect. Do they have such a thing for games? The ESRB stuff is so vague and almost meaningless.

Sometimes it's ok to kill someone. War, self defence . . . If I was in masterchief's shoes, at war with the convenient, I'd be the first one to blow a grunts head of his shoulders. I don't think it's ever ok to be a man-whore.

Please dont' take this as an attack of any kind, just a comment: I don't use Victoria Secret commercials as a standard for what is exceptable viewing in my home. If a woman in her bra & panties physically walked into your home & started posing for your children, you would have a problem with that, assuming you are any kind of a parent. But somehow it becomes ok if it is just on a high-def screen. I don't get that personally. Just my 2 cents.

That ban has been lifted until the new ratings board can get together and rerate it.

So it was banned because of "girl on girl action", then unbanned because of Singapore's strict anti-ghey laws? I'm not sure I follow.
