So uh... what happens when an entire map is filled by red? There are a few that are damned close (e.g. Epitaph)... Or is that even possible? I just don't know what the value of the heatmap is if you can't distinguish deepest red from deepest red. I guess they show (for now) where fewer people are killed...

I guess my question is really about the purpose of the heatmaps. Are they supposed to be an indicator of trends, or are they just to keep track of how many kills occur on a map, to be eventually completely filled with red?

Edit: I figured I could post it here instead of the Halo 3 forum because it's more about the site than the game.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

While that could end up being the case, you can always sort by weapons, which will be better for showing trends. Weapons like the sniper rifle have very distinct areas of use on many maps.

Also, even though the global heatmaps are filling up quickly, I get the feeling that many personal heatmaps will be clear enough to show some trends for quite a while.

I think it's more about the amount of times you die in one place compared to others. Kinda like a ratio. so if you die one time in an obscure place (compared to the hundreds in the other places) then it won't show up.

Yes, the system works now on its more specific settings, but the system still only allows any information there to be viable for certain periods of time. Would a percentage- or proportion-based system work better and be accurate for longer?

Maybe just an option to switch between displaying number of kills and relative proportions of kills, with the latter option not allowing the entire map to grow red.

of course heatmaps are good, i mean there not bad in any way. i use them to see where i die most then next time i play that map i just dont go over to that spot. if anything the maps are just to help you out and its not like there bad or anything. if it fills up with all red or soemthing then just switch through your guns to see which gun kills you the most where, and if that fills up then you've played halo a little too much. im sure bungie got some technique to make sure taht the map wont ever be fully red. there smarter than that.

I like the heatmaps, especially when I'm proving to someone what a broken map Construct is.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I usually win on the map, that makes it awesome. :P
