I think we need to turn up the heat as far as bannable offenses go. We've already eliminated "IBTL"'s, "Objection"s, cross posts (primarily in the Halo 3 forum), and many other nuisances, let's work on some other things.

For starters, the one EVERYONE is asking for, "You Fail" links. I am so sick of those. They're overused, not funny, and serve no purpose. They are spam. If you REALLY need to get the point across THAT badly, send them a PM.

One that I get ever so tired of seeing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again is "old" posts. When people post into a thread only to say "omg tihs is so old", or something of the like. It serves no purpose, it's damn annoying, and it makes whoever says it look like an ass.

So I move that these two things become bannable offenses.

I'm happy to make those ban-worthy (3 day bans) but I will wait until the other NInja's comment.

I've fought countless times, yet I've never met an adversary who could offer me what we Spartans call, "A Beautiful Death."
I can only hope, with all the world's warriors gathered against us, there might be one down there who's up to the task.

I move that people complaining about things that they feel should be banned, should be banned.

If you really need to get your point across that much, send a Ninja a PM.

  • 12.03.2007 3:37 PM PDT

Your two examples both fall under the spam umbrella, so they're already bannable offenses aren't they? So I guess the question can only be answered by the ninjas.......do you ban people for this type of spam, or just give out warnings?

If you applied that rule to real life, think about it. If everyone was punished who spoke out against a problem, called bull-blam!- when they saw bull-blam!-, then America would have no first amendment. Why should someone be punished for trying to change something, or do something different?

Go away and watch your Fox News.

Now that's funny.

Bringing Fox News into it. Yup, you're a new age Leftist. Someone disagrees with you, so they automatically play for the Right. Here's a tip. I don't play for either of those "wing" teams, so don't even try to bring that up.

First, you complain about something that people do, and pass a movement that, if accepted, would "infringe upon their first amendment rights" (as per your example). And then, when I call you out on it, you say I'm "infringing upon YOUR first amendment rights."

Typical of someone in your position. You live in a "Free" country, but you feel that the freedom only applies to you.

Go listen to Al Franken and vote for your Hillary or Barack. After all, it's your right and freedom to do so.

But do us all a favor, and keep your politcal, partisan BS out of a video game forum.

How about people who shut other people down without taking the time to fully consider and think about the post you are responding to.
You know the ones, someone says something they don't like and then they get a defensive and try to shut them down even though they have a semi-valid point.

Constructive criticism is valid for many things here on bungie and it falls under the freedom of speech laws. Telling someone to shut up and go watch "Fox News" because they told you their opinions violates their rights.

That was a hypocritical post if I even saw one. Arguing on the side of the First Amendment and then telling someone that they cant speak their mind and to "Go away"

Are you aware of what an "amendment" is? An amendment is a change.

As for the first amendment, it only applies outside of a set of rules. A website, such as Bungie.net, is allowed to use their own set of rules, regardless of what the constitution says. So, amend those rules.

And then, when I call you out on it, you say I'm "infringing upon YOUR first amendment rights."

Don't piss in my mouth and tell me it's vinegar. Don't change my words. I said that if people were punished for speaking their minds, it would infringe upon first amendment rights. You just lost all your credibility by misquoting me.

Now if you get my thread locked for political discussion, I will be forced to fire my crossbow at you. Back on topic.

I think the topic has taken a wrong turn somewhere.
Maybe it would be best to put it on hiatus.
Take a breather..come back and try again in a few days.
Or
We can all agree to be civil and get on with the REAL topic.

I don't really see what everyone's crying about. It's like when some one gets offended if I TYPE IN ALL CAPS. A bannable offense for telling some one what they are doing is wrong? (ie this is an old post) whatever...

YOU FAIL

Change your words?

Time to learn reading comprehension.

You started a post because you wanted to make things that people post bannable. I retorted by saying that complaints about things people say should be bannable. Read into that. I used your own weapon against you. We both said basically the same thing.

Then you came back at me and posted what I have quoted above, lambasting me for disagreeing with you, even going so far as to make it a political discussion by bringing in the First Amendment, and telling me to watch Fox News.

Now, you're bringing in this "evidence" that Bungie.net is allowed to use their own set of rules, regardless of what the Constitution (and capitalize that next time, buddy) says. The OBVIOUS tag goes to you. Of course they are. Which is why, if they can ban people for the things that you have determined should be bannable, then they can ban people for what I have determined should be bannable. Would my decision fly in the real world? No, of course it wouldn't. But neither would your's. However, YOU were the one who first made it a political discussion. YOU were the one who condtradicted yourself by trying to hide behind the First Amendment when you used it as an example for my opinion to be a "violation" of it if it ever came to fruition, all the while neglecting the fact that YOUR opinion did the EXACT same thing.

I didn't misquote a thing. You're just refusing to admit that I'm correct in this, because you don't like that I shot down your opinion.

There. And now we're back on topic, because I'm talking about our opinions in this matter.

In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

Ha, I love how both of you are already citing the constitution/Bill of Rights.

A tip for the wise: Freedom of speech, specificly the prohibition against censorship, does not guarantee that no one can take away what you say, but that they, in almost all cases, can't prevent you from initially saying the words. Once expressed, however, those words are fair game for censoring.

In conclusion, do not go after each other's throats, especially with political claims. I agree with the OP, and I do think more action should be taken against these things.

This has gotten way off topic, I suggest getting back to the topic, editing your previous posts, and getting to the heart of this discussion. There are private groups for political views and this will never end unless someone is willing to let the other have the last word. I doubt that will happen, but it would be nice if one of you stepped up to the plate. This is not the place for these discussions, regardless of how I feel.

  • 12.03.2007 4:21 PM PDT

Relax man. The folks are just copying Luke's You Fail thing.
It's not credible until someone gets annoyed with it, see how that works.
I just think we make it more than it is by getting bothered by it.
Roll your eyes and chill.

Or say this...

How can I fail ? I'm Rick James' Mom.

The First Amendment applies only to the federal and state governments. A private entity may restrict your speech in any way that it pleases.

Oh noes... not teh credibilitiez of the internetz...

The you fail comment was funny and ironic and oh, so -blam!- original... Perhaps I should explain:

Crying, doesn't just mean tears, it also is a synonym for complaining, specifically those complaints that are unfounded or (read:childish)

I assume since you say "we" that you mean you and the frog in your pocket... or perhaps you speak for everyone on the forums. A lot of people DO get offended when you type in all caps so far as to go on and personally insult the intelligence of someone who does...

And I WON'T say goodbye to my credibility, IT'S NOT DEAD, IT'S JUST SLEEPING...

I don't care about having the last word. I've made my point, and there's nothing more to say. He made his opinion, I disagreed, he fought me on it, and I defended myself.

Except, I wish it was that easy. He could have disagreed in a much better way, but he had to take it to an entirely new level. So yes, things got out of hand. As I said, however ... I'm done with it now.
