The End

‘The conscious is cancerous if allowed to linger’

"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

Before I begin I would just like to say that this topic was difficult to place as it is related to Halo 3 and the community. I decided because the community forum is a more civil places which has less posts a minute that it would be the best place to place a topic not related to mthe melee or the mauler so here goes.

__

Now I know what you're thinking. How can Halo 3 clans be based on bungie.net? Well the simple answer lies in the basis of groups. What if we could use groups as clans? What if they had to be based on bungie.net but could be accessible in Halo 3? Lets say you have access to the clan list in Halo 3 but the only way of accepting members into the clan on Halo 3 is to allow them into the group on bungie.net with a linked gamertag. This sounds odd and it is difficult to explain but imagine the expansion effect it would have on the Halo 3 community. Now I know this post has likely been bashed out a little too fast but this idea needs to be developed. I know a wealth of features could be achieved and groups would finally have a purpose!

Post your thoughts please, comments are appretiated.

Thanks

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

I'll make it as short as possible:

It would be awesome!

That was short. Could you explain why?

Easy accessible and easier to arrange clan matches etc.
Probably a lot of down sides with it as well though.

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding what you're proposing. We already have the ability to form clan groups and organize clan matches. Since the large majority of Halo clans don't frequent this forum, it would be a drop in the bucket if something was implemented by Bungie for clans on this site.

In order for clan matches to return in force, there's going to have to be something done by Microsoft with Xbox live. Somehow make it easier to navigate on live and organize clan matches. An extra blade in the menu system for clans that links up to not just Halo but other multiplayer games where clan matches would be prevalent.

I agree. Any system that is going to attempt to manage a global social group needs to do so at a level that is higher than a 3rd party web site, or a game developer's fan site, or even the games themselves.
.

Yep, there are just too many variables for clans to work any other way. Time zones, linked or unlinked GT's, Window's Live ID enabled users, or even the fact that the set up of a H2 clan matches worked because you could see right from the menu who in your clan was online and a matchmaking system that took you right into available matches.

Hopefully Microsoft is working on a way to make clans work over live, because I really do think it is something that people would use a lot. We all had (and still have) pride for our clans and would relish the opportunity to play clan matches.

I'm having difficulty figuring out why clan support was left out of 3 in the first place. Not a criticism, I'm just a little curious.

...It only makes sense (to me) that they would be the only proper authority and have the best control over such a project.

I partially agree with you. A clan system should be standardised across XBL, but it should be independent inside each game/community. Playing with/for one clan in one game shouldnt limit you into the same clan for all other games. That's why i really like the idea of clans being operated via b.net. Would give groups a purpose again if nothing else.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

That's what they tried with Halo 2. I really didn't work all that well.

Though, I do think that groups could be used to complement an XBL-wide clan system.

No they didn't. That was a system that was operated from XBL. Clan names carried no weight and had no purpose. They just because second friends lists. Also. XBL-wide clans = bad. Ends up limiting the clan to a single game.

Having H3 clans based off b.net gives them at least a modicum of respectability. They become related to your forum conduct and manner. I'd like to see it related to the (hopefully) upcoming posting restrictions on Optimatch. Actually giving clans a reason to exist would help, too. I dont mean re-adding clan playlists, but rather regular clan leagues and tournies. However, i fear due to lack of playlist development we're already waay past the PNR in terms of development for this to help improvethe H3 experience.
