I tried Halo this morning and it looks great. Achievements would have nice.

  • 12.05.2007 8:14 AM PDT

haha now we all know that if they enabled online nobody would be playing halo 3.....halo 1 would once again be the most played game...thats my opinion about this whole mess....why would they want halo 1 to be played more than their new money maker!!!

  • 12.05.2007 8:23 AM PDT

Little to no mercy.

No achievements? No online?

Can you say "half-assed"?

  • 12.05.2007 8:47 AM PDT

They mostly come out at night... mostly...

Yes we can. You can buy HaloCE for 10 bucks at the store. Why would I waste memory space on my 360 and actually pay slightly more to download the same game to my 360? Bungie has some serious head problems. Let's congratulate them. They said they wouldn't be revisiting HaloCE again. That was their excuse. Now it's being offered for download? What a bunch of lying pieces of trash. But let's not make it on-line compatible?

Downloading HaloCE = BIGGEST JOKE OF THE YEAR.

Without online multiplayer, this game is pointless.

None of you are getting this, are you? This isn't a re-release of Halo: CE for the Xbox 360. It's not even a "port". Xbox Originals was never meant to provide incentive for people who already own the game, or would rather own a physical copy of the game. The purpose of Xbox Originals is to allow people who don't own the game to easily obtain and play it on their Xbox 360. Hey, not everyone is going to take the time to drive around and find a used copy - to them, it's worth it to pay a few bucks more and download it.

Why no achievements or online play? The download is essentially an image of the original DVD, and is no different than the content on the disc you purchased. It runs on the standard emulator that the disc does. You don't just "enable online play", they would have to completely recode the game to run on the 360 and add the neccessary functionality, which would take months, if not years. Besides, how many people do you really think would rather play Halo CE online instead of Halo 3?

Again, to all the posters who already own Halo: this download isn't for you! It's a quick way for newer gamers to own original Xbox classics.

We know this, but it doesn't mean we suddenly don't want to play Halo properly online!

Well, I would like to as well (I come from the Xbox Connect and Halo PC era), and have my hopes that some company gets online for Halo eventually. I'm just frustrated with the volume of people complaining about it, or how "Microsoft and Bungie are money-grabbing and I'm not going to buy this cause I already own it". It makes them sound rather ignorant.

We didn't revisit Halo: CE. The downloadable version of the game had nothing to do with Bungie, no changes have been made -- if you already own the game there is no purpose at all in buying the downloadable Halo: CE. Enjoy the vacation.

Don't feed the monkey!!!!

One of the best games EVER made, but once again Micro-blam!- f@#ks up another great opportunity to put this game where it needs to be. ONLINE. If XBconnect can do it, why can't the worlds largest software company do it? They also said people don't want backwards compatible games. Really. Oh once you can charge for it then I guess people will then want them. I love Halo combat evolved but it's becoming a whore for the Micro-blam!- money pimp. Start thinking of Microsoft as Packman, and every little dot is your hard earned money, They just keep gobbling up the money without any real thought as to what the consumer really wants and is getting for the money spent. STOP being a lemming and start speaking up. You have a voice USE IT!!! I can see now why Bungie wanted to get away from Micro-blam!-. I can't imagine Bungie being this ignorant.
P.S. also remember if your console is disconnected from Xbox live or you have to replace or repair your 360( that never happens ) the download is connected to the old console, and wont be playable unless it's connected to Xbox live or the old console. I have purchased full price arcade games and can't play them if I take the console over to a friends house who doesn't have broadband/ Xbox live and try to promote the service. Buyer beware!!!

IMO... MS did a cool thing, this is intended for people who never played halo 1, why would you wanna play halo 1 online anyways?! we got halo 3, graphics are way better, more weapons and functionality, the program is called "Xbox originals" which means the original unchanged version, some might say that it's cheaper at gamestop, but some of us are too lazy to go to gamestop and don't mind paying 5 more bucks, or they're having trouble finding a copy of the game at a local store. This game is almost 7 years old, why would MS go back and make it online? Thats like asking for an online version of pacman

A better idea would be for bungie to make more map packs for halo 3 of updated versions of classic maps, such as blood gulch(never gets old) and etc, It wouldn't be too hard to make updated textures and just fill the maps with halo 3 objects.

Don't feed the monkey!!!!

Good point but read the edit. At the same time Halo is a game that still to this day could ring in massive profits for Microsoft and bungie. I would bet that if Halo Combat evolved went online like it did with XBconnect, it would surpass Halo 3 even with lesser graphics. You haven't played it at all, or on XBconnect, so you have no idea why the loyal initial fan-base would want this. I would buy the game if it had online features.

  • 12.05.2007 12:38 PM PDT

No. Just no. Give us Live Access or GTFO. Seriously. I want to play the campaign Co-Op online. Add that in or just remove it. Bungie, you're a bit disappointing. You made Marathon Live Multi, why not fix Halo: CE and do the same? I suggest re-working it, if you even read these replies.

  • 12.05.2007 12:57 PM PDT

Don't feed the monkey!!!!

Good point! Marathon is live multi, but Halo, the game that saved the Xbox is not. WTF. Don't have time, or people just don't want it. REALLY! I guess they just haven't figured out how much to charge for it. Then I guess we'll see it.

This is great for anyone who didn't play through the Halo:CE campaign, but I was excited for some Blood Gulch multiplayer. Oh well.

Maybe someone will notice the sales figures for Doom on xbox live arcade which was free in the PC world years ago.

Guys its not gonna happen. why waste their time making something that would sell less than 100,000 copies when they can make another game that can sell millions? I would love halo 1 online, but its not gonna happen.

Luke isnt there anyway to talk to Microsoft to at least add something to it? I mean I know the program is called "Xbox orginals" but doesnt microsoft see how much money they are losing with not making the game online. I started playing halo when halo 2 was in the midst of its glory but i still go back and play some halo pc once in awhile just cause it was just as fun as the other halos. I just think you guys should really look into it. I know your busy with halo 3 and such but this would be a very good step for you guys if you could get microsoft to add online play.

Guys I don't think Bungie had anything to do with this. Just like they had nothing to do with the Arcade version of Marathon Durandal. That was Freeverse. NOT BUNGIE! Yes it would be cool to have all these features but it would take forever. Don't you know how much testing went into Halo 3? Every time you change something in a game's code, it has the possibility to create another bug that has to be fixed. Now if all we're doing is adding achievements and on-line and matchmaking and new maps or at least halo pc maps and weapons. See my point. This would only create about 50,000 problems in the game's code. It just wasn't designed with all this in mind. Besides do you really want to wait another three years just so you can play the original Halo online? If so please buy a PC.

Well as for the price... I went to best buy today, and found a stack of 10+ halo:combat evolved "platinum hits" copies for $9.99 each I don't think i'll pick it up, if you want halo:combat evolved online try the PC version, I had lots of fun playing halo PC, and halo custom edition was really fun, people made fully custom maps on it.
