Reach!

Yep if done right it would've had a multiplayer XBL component added, and acheivements... but hey I would pay fifty dollars for that game!

  • 12.06.2007 5:50 AM PDT

Not cool....this is pointless and everyone that owned a Xbox should already own this game on hard disc. Not to mention you can go on any fine retailer like Amazon.com for instance or even eBay and get the game for far less than they are offering it for on the marketplace. Bungie and Microsoft should have realized how big of a deal they could have made this release of the 'classic' games if they allowed online play on Halo: CE. This would be a humongous story in the gaming world and would entice millions of gamers to pay the ridiculous amount of $15 for the game on the marketplace. It would give them great PR for their new updates to xbox live as well. The only thing that is worthwhile about this is that you can get a free Halo:CE theme for the dashboard....that is it!!

Mr Brightside

Halo CE its what put xbox on the Map, Halo CE deserves Live.

They dont Added Live to HaloCE cuz they know nobody will play H3 when they Have HaloCE Live

There still is (as others mentioned) HaloCustomEdition for free (you need the HaloPC cd-key though) and a team called CMT converted the entire SP over to CustomEdition as well.

There even are 500+ (!) custom maps available w/Halo2 and Halo3 features (dualwield/sword, etc.).

BTW the xbox 360 controller can be used and the GUI includes full custom button setup besides some other sweet stuff the original xbox version lacks.

And screenresolution settings are only limited by your monitors capabilities.

EDIT: Not that I wouldn't want what seemingly everybody else here wants, too...

It stinks that you can not do it on a regular Xbox

Halo 1 > Halo 2 > Halo 3

For what they're offering on the Marketplace you could spend an extra $5 and get Halo PC.

Why it's worth buying over the Xbox original:

1. Online Play - Even though it might be laggy at times it's still no different then if you're playing on Halo 2 or 3 on the Xbox.
2. More Maps - The game comes with 6 maps that the Xbox version didn't have. By the way, Timberland is a badass map.
3. New Vehicles - The addition of the Banshee to Halo CE multiplayer as well as the new Tri-Rocket Warthog add even more depth to the game.
4. New Weapons - This game was actually the first to incorporate the Fuel Rod Cannon and the Flamethrower into a Halo game. Plus, the Flamethrower doesn't make you go into third-person and make you move slow either.
5. Updated Sidewinder - Sick of people camping in their base during CTF matches, we'll say hello to the new two-way teleporter that leads to and from the second floor of the base. Get the drop on everyone who only guards the front doors.
6. Halo Custom Edition - If you get sick of the preset maps in the PC version you can always download hundreds of maps made by people who put a lot of thought and dedication into them.

Since I'm just now getting a PC with a graphics card that can run this game, once I found out that Halo CE on the Marketplace wasn't going to have online play I rushed out and bought a copy as quick as I could.

To sum it up, I've had more fun in just the "Demo" of Halo PC then I've had the entire time I've played Halo 2 and 3's multiplayer.

I'd buy it for the same price as halo 3 if it had online and achivments, hell, i'd pay as much as halo 3 for just the online, campaign is only so fun, i didn't even beat it a second time, loses fun the second way through at the first halo level
I'll keep my copy i got for 9$ from gamestop TYVM

Posted by: R1VAL
theres no reason to download it. If it was xbox live compatable then i would

if they added achievements and/or online play, $15 would be an absolute steal.

Amen.

For a split second I honestly thought you guys and M$ [were] actually listening to us on what we(the people) wanted. Shame on me for actually thinking that huh? I think the one feature was that everyone wanted was to play Halo: CE online against everyone else without having to use XBC. Maybe achievements wouldve been nice as well. But I think everyone wanted the online play for it more than anything. Maybe when it includes online play and achievements...then I might consider buying it .

Posted by: Earths Offense
was it to much trouble to add a few lines of code to give this game internet functionality!?

C'MON MICROSOFT

can't pay Bungie a few dollars to give people what they want!? I'd pay full price for an updated version.

I can get this title for considerably less at most stores
+ I can bring the disk *gasp* wherever I want.

Posted by: StewArt of War
I won't be getting this, just takes up hard drive space. I might consider it if there were achievements.

Posted by: oD Guardian
Forget the damn achievements...online play is more important than stupid worthless points.

I pay 100 each year for two accounts to play people online in games. I'd rather have online play.

Posted by: SuburbanChief
ADD ONLINE PLAY!!! I would be your love slave for eternity! No one cares about a 3 shot host, we just don't want to have to go through Xbox Connect anymore!

Posted by: CHI3FHUNT3R
I sincerely think that if they released Halo: Combat Evolved on the 360 with online multiplayer, it will be one of the most played Xbox Live games ever. All it will take is a matchmaking system with ranks and the game is a classic which many casual gamers as well as hardcore ones love!

all right I'm sick of quoting this stuff... and I'm only to page 2 of 6. if nothing else see this as a Statement from your consumers, We want this product there are MANY of us that would Pay for this product. and realize how limited this information is. this is only from the people who browse your site AND Post on it. I couldnt even count just the people that I know who would purchase this game if it was rereleased with just online play for the same price as halo 3 hell I would pay 2 to 3 times the price for a halo:CE that could be played on XBL.

Make a team, do some real work, and make some Money. This is an opportunity for you to not only Increase the size of your bill fold, but to Delight Millions of fans with the Original game that inspired us all.

why is halo ce so damn expensive its been out for like 7 years

  • 12.07.2007 12:32 PM PDT

I think I speak for MANY people when I say, "I don't want a PC game!" Personally, I refuse to shell out my hard-earned money to update my PC every year or so to the latest and greatest iteration for the latest and greatest game. I want games that are fun. Halo:Combat Evolved was/is fun on the xbox. I have played Halo for the PC and its just not the same as on the xbox.

I want Halo:Combat Evolved updated for Xbox Live, both for achievements and multiplayer. Will it ever happen? Highly doubtful. Can I hope? You bet. Is it because of the Halo pistol that everyone talks about? Nope. Its because a game that launched and sold the original Xbox system DESERVES to be updated for the latest incarnation of Microsoft's console gaming system. I, for one, would pay the full price of $59.99 for the privilege of playing Halo:Combat Evolved updated for the 360 and the new Xbox Live with achievements and online multiplayer.

They dont have have online for halo ce because everyone will see how great it is to have a custom game search and be able to play the kind of games you want to play and everyone will realize that halo 3 online sucks balls and will go play halo ce instead.

  • 12.08.2007 4:56 PM PDT

I'd pay maybe 100 dollars if they just had an online patch. I don't care how long it takes them I'd rather them work on that then a new Halo 3 map. C'MON BUNGIE HOW MUCH DO WE HAVE TO ASK?!

well 2 be honest this would be awesome if there were achievements, there was online multiplayer, and the greatest player made maps were added in or were an additional free download. Why does bungie only give u the single player, when most of halos players prefer the mulitplayer anyway?

  • 12.09.2007 7:43 AM PDT

why can't we just get halo PC over XBL? you could throw in a map creator, and start a community of players a la Halo custom edition. Seriously, halo 3 is awesome, but many hardcore gamers still think Halo 1 was the best. economically, it just doesn't make sense, everyone has the game already, on a disk, does it really take that much effort, time and money to convert Halo PC? they do run off the same engine, right?

Couldn't have said it better. On-line play or achievements would have sold me.

  • 12.09.2007 6:21 PM PDT

I own four original Xbox's, and approx 12 copies of Halo Combat Evolved. Greatest game ever 10/10. Halo 2 in my opinion, was a terrible sequel, 1/10. Halo 3 is FAR better than H2, probably a 6/10, specifically because of the online play. My all-time wish, have all halo maps available for all halo weapon setups...

i.e.play chill out with halo 3 weapons, play construct with halo ce weapons, etc.

be able to choose, if you want to play with halo ce, halo 2 or halo 3 weapons, and then be able to play on all the maps (hang'em, lockout, valhalla, etc.). i would pay $100 for an update or whatever for this. i would even wait a year for it if I knew it was coming.

But I do think this was misleading for MS/Bungie to release this, no matter who was responsible for doing it. I think their are well over 1,000,000 people who would pay big money for having Halo CE on XBL, with achievements and all that.

“Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil."

I thought it was a pretty cool update. I lost my copy of Halo:CE about 2 years ago. So I thought it was pretty cool that they put it up for download. Now I can play Halo 3, and if I get bored I can just switch to the dashboard and load up Halo 1. Pretty cool.

I think for them to add online functionality they would have to completely re-wire all the coding in multiplayer, as well as purchasing servers to support all the players.

I think Bungie probably thinks it is more important to work on new projects rather than focusing on a "dead" game from an outdated console.

I can't blame them for that. I would rather play Halo 1 with online functionality over Halo 3 any day, but asking for Halo 1 to be given online functionality is almost like asking for Goldeneye 64 to be given online functionality. It's just not gonna happen.

But as for Halo: CE being up for download, I thought that was great. It's really convenient to be able to get the best game ever made for 12 dollars, and not have to worry about losing it or getting the disc scratched.

I like to knit sweaters.....and by knit I mean PUNCH....and by sweaters I mean babies.

Macgyver can build an airplane out of gum and paper clips, but Evil One can kill him and take it.

How awesome would it have been if they made it XBox Live Enabled ! So, sad to see they left this out. I think everyone would have stopped playing Halo 3 if they did that. There is still hope? Maybe if enough people ask, Microsoft will do it?

Edit: Are you serious !
"I think Bungie probably thinks it is more important to work on new projects rather than focusing on a "dead" game from an outdated console."

A dead game it would not, if it was XBL enabled. I think they are afraid everyone would want to play it instead of Halo 3

I agree man, if Halo 1 was XBL enabled it would not be a dead game, but the sad truth is that it is not XBL enabled and it is dead.

New Halo 1 game disks are no longer being made, hardly anyone plays it, it is not XBL enabled, it is not updated - it is dead.

So yeah, I am serious, and like I said, Halo 1 was the best in my opinion, but now it's dead.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! We really want to play Halo: CE via Xbox Live. If Bungie is worried about people ditching Halo 3 to play it, couldn't they give us a huge Halo 3 download that included Halo maps, weapons, warthog, etc.? We could then create a custom game type that emulated Halo. Yet we would still have to BUY Halo 3. World peace and happiness.

I couldn't agree more with what everyone is saying, with the exception that HALO CE is dead. It's dying, and if Bungie or Microsoft doesn't help it out, it will be dead. I'm pretty pi$$ed about the download on Marketplace, mainly because I'm the idiot who downloaded as soon as it came out just to see if it had LIVE capability (money NOT well spent! :). I think that Bungie and Microsoft should definitely work on putting it on LIVE, especially if they want to CRUSH the PS3. Just like you guys said, you would gladly pay a king's ransom for HALO CE on LIVE. Until then, we'll just have to be content with HALO 3 :)
