You are not a mistake; God has never said "oops." Seek Him and you will find Him. Do not seek Him, and you will not find Him. He respectfully leaves the choice up to you.
Whoa. Okay, everybody (well, not EVERYbody) let's try to keep this thread from being locked down. I think that there are people with valid objections to what I said earlier. FriedHamster just didn't get what I specified, no sweat. Because the rules explicitly state that it is Halo 2 or the cash, I made my case so that I would get to play something so similar to Halo 2 that it would be indistinguishable from Halo 2, yet still being within the rules because if Bungie made this alteration to the game, they could say "It's not Halo 2" (they COULD say "It's Halo: The Sequel") and if anyone questioned the rules, there would be no argument that could be set against them that would win. They are Bungie. When it comes to Halo, what they say goes. The whole point being, yes, to have my cake and to eat it too, without violating the rules. Finding ways to do this has been one of humanity's occupations since it has existed. Rules say: "You can't fly" So, man says, "Ok, I'll make something that flies, and I'll just be inside it. I'm not flying; the thing is. I just happen to be inside of it." And thus you have the 747.
As for if I absolutely had to choose between the two, and I could never play any Bungie game, which is a paraphrase of the conditions that Mr. Hamster set forth, then I would have to take a good point from the fellow who said something about using it for those he loved - his kids, his wife, etc, and take the money. My sacrifice would be worth it to me, to guarantee a better future for those whom I love. Heck, seeing them play Halo 2 alone and knowing that they are enjoying it, that would almost make up for the loss. But you know, at the same time, how do I know that they won't already be provided for in as much as they need and want without me throwing a million dollars in there? Perhaps I'd be depriving my kids (I can only hope that my wife would play Halo or it's sequel with or without me) of time with good ol' dad, where they could learn how to school me with the pistol, and generally make me feel bad about being older than 7? My point from before still stands, about not knowing if you'll live to see tomorrow, and money being only something waiting to be transferred into goods or services, and not any good to anyone past that purpose. But let me elaborate, for the sake of those who like picking holes - the "Halo 2 or the cash" thing is, I'm assuming, "once Halo 2 is out"; NOT right now, where it'd only be a promise and nothing more, that you might not even live to see fulfilled, and then it wouldn't really matter who gave a hooplah about what you chose, you wouldn't get to use the choice you so chose. So, in assuming that it is the ability to actually play Halo 2, I would say yes, the wiser decision is to play Halo 2, and pass on the "oh, gee, look I am rich" thing. I promise, it'd get old real quick. You only get to live once. And if playing through a video game is something that you REALLY enjoy, then sure, shoot for it. What good is the money if you don't get to use it for what you really enjoy? Sure, there are some people out there who would be just as or more happy to play Half Life 2 than Halo 2, and that's good for them, but as for us Giant Hoola-Hoop lovin' freaks of the 7th variety, Halo 2 is the only fix. Fool or no fool in your opinion, we are happy ninjas-on-fire fools who have no regrets.
As for the postulation that everyone who takes the game over the money is a fool, one should remember that absolutes (words like EVERYone and EVERYthing and ALWAYS) are usually a bad idea to base an argument on. I say this because, I know of a man whom won a $90 million lottery, and went and bought himself a nice ol' doublewide trailer. And got some Elvis shwag or something. Now, was he a fool to take the money over Halo 2 had he gotten it from this choice of "Halo 2 or the cash" instead of the lottery? That's entirely up to you to judge him a fool or not. The point being, not all people know what the best thing to do with a million dollars is, whereas most people can get a grasp of a video game and appreciate it, though maybe not so much as the hardest of the hardcore Bungie freaks (yours truly included).
That said, some of you people make the forums seem more trashy. Let's cut the "Hey look! I'm bypassing the auto-detect web settings of the Bungie forums and typing vertical vulgarities! hehe Cool!" crap and save that for when we're up in our treehouse wondering where that funny looking hair is coming from, and why you feel different about girls. I know for a fact that there are gonna be people whom, upon reading this post, will somehow feel intellectually violated, and, in so being, will attempt to exact some childish revenge upon me by throwing names or witty thing they've heard their friends say at me. That being assumed, I say go for it. I dont' care. I actually find it kind of amusing. And so do those people who come here to actually come away feeling that they know somethng that they didn't know before, rather than coming way somehow dumber than when they came here because they read such worthless dribble. Anyone who wants to argue for the sake of being able to stand up from their computer chair and say "I WIN! HAHAHAHAHA!" should read the signature of the guy who talked about the special olympics. And THEN they can argue for the sake of being right. Cuz, you know, they're going to do it anyway. End of post.
