I've also heard a lot of trash talk from 7th column tagged peeps. Usually when I see them I look forward to a good game, or some friendly talk, but recently it's been exactly opposite.

Do you really think there's a correlation though? I've seen plenty of jerks from both sides of the court.

Maybe if only certain people were eligible for the symbol? Or rather, maybe if some people were excluded because of certain XBL related behavior?

Zag is right. People on both ends of the spectrum are vulgar. People with the Septagon Logo by their name shouldn't be held in higher regard. As it's been mentioned before, you probably notice it more because you expect something different out of those people. Don't.

Why? It's simply a symbol to show their gamertag is linked. Inferring anything else from it is silly.

the biggest mistake a girl can make on XBL is actually letting anyone know shes a girl.

Sad but true, i was playing COD4 and after we finished the game one girl said, "you guys just go whoopped by a girl. I held my face, and on came the comments of how they are going to butt -blam!- her.

Uhh, Foman.. I think those achievements are also creating elitism. Heaven forbid we should be able to achieve something others cannot.

As for trash talkers I just give them more than what they give me. Actually I am pretty sure last night I gave just a bit too much. Some people would have just taken it just to the cliff edge. I went over the cliff edge on a rocket powered tricycle.

I sure enjoyed gang raping that boy.

stop whining. theres always a mute button. the little logo has no connotation between the player and any code of honor. I talk so much mess in the lobby, i could care less how any one thinks about it, it's a video game. you're not supposed to be playing this game if you're under 18 either, so since everyone is adults here you should just deal with it.

I will continue to view those with Seventh Column symbols next to their names as representatives of Bungie and this Community. If one of those members acts disrespectfully on Xbox Live it sours my impression of Bungie and this Community.

I'd count that as trash-talk, and she should expect responses in kind. If I'd said "Ooh, you just got whooped by a Brit!" the threats would probably have been much the same - even just "Oh, I totally owned you!" will be met with threats of "-blam!-". Which is of course not meant in its literal sense, but in the rather irritating gaming sense (to beat by a large margin). And girls, only give what you can take - equality works both ways.

I agree with Saint (and not in the usual sarcastic ass way, either). I hear girls complain plenty about trashtalk, but I hear 'em do a fair bit themselves. Don't act victimized if you do the same thing.

Uh no. It was much worse than that. I even had all the people in my party including my good friend X (He can really be a smack talker.) a bit taken back. You can have BB confirm it. I mean I really took it past the edge.

It is not very often that I get like that. Just sometimes it comes out with no filtering involved. I think it comes from being in the field and having nothing but other foul mouthed Marines to chew the fat with. I am pretty sure I got some negative rep and was reported an muted like I should have been. If I were to keep it up eventually it would catch up with me and I would get a ban out of it. Of course it all comes down to people using the systems in place to crackdown on it. Just be sure to mute them and leave the reports on them and if we all do that then the people will be dealt with.

*shrug* I'm not complaining so much as posting an academic philosophy, really. I had thought more of most B.net members. I suppose I should have kept in mind that people are people, no matter where or in what form. As I said, I'm an idealist. It gets me into trouble from time to time. *wry smile*

I DO mute and review people. I work within the system, hoping to effect change in a positive way. That's part of why I posted here in the first place. I wanted to see if there were others who shared my view. Clearly, I'm in the minority. I can deal with that and move on.

As for my personal gaming style, I'm not a trash talker. I don't think it's fun, and no one leaves the game feeling good about it. I'm more of the 'Do unto others.' philosophy. But, that's my personal choice, and I am well aware of the fact that people have the right to behave as they like... even if it is base and unnecessary.

In the end, you're all right. It's just a game. And in the end, I can deal with the trash, I just don't like it. I have my moments when people get my goose and I lash out too, and we all have a good laugh in the end. I'm no Saint, to be sure. No matter what, I will always be proud to be part of this community. ^_^

I don't think I've ever heard the term "Get my goose" used in serious conversation. Do we have an achievement for that too? ;)

I can take jerks at the beginning of a round. (Say, on your team, or in social matches) And once they're muted, the rest of the game just plays out fine. The moment I heard trash-talking after a game, I usually just give a nice "Good game" and press B. Sticking around just asks for trouble, especially in an environment where you can easily avoid the people you don't like, and be solely connected to the people you do. :D

That is, if it works. I use it frequently, but I've gotten matched up twice in a row with an entire party I wanted to avoid. Anyway, Xbox Live has many ways to deal with idiots. The fact that they have the Septagon is just an annoyance. I'd be all for having some "special members" icon in the game. Perhaps only give the Septagon to a select few... Of course, that would make the Linktacular's almost impossible.

That's what being a writer will get you! And the Avoid Player feature does work, Zag, but I think it's quite low on the priority list when matching (in ranked games certainly - it'd be silly to be able to avoid everyone that beats you and never play them again). If you definitely don't want to be matched with X and Y again, just look at their status in your "Players" list and wait until they are in a game before searching. [:

I confirm that because of his comment, Achilles should definitely be on the "naughty" list this Christmas. Plus all the pix messages he sends me isn't helping his case for getting on the "nice" list.
