Subject: I want Xbox Connect, need some help though.

First i'd like to say that i DID read the sticky, but i need some simpler to the point answers.

I have an Xbox 360, Halo: CE, and a computer. Is it compatible for the 360?
I understand that my computer needs to run on the same server, but im not sure if it is already, if it isnt then i want to know how.
Also if i will have to pay for anything.

It's a free download on that site, unless you buy the Pro version. Can't remember what the differences are, but they explain them in the downloads section. That's all I can help you with, though, sorry.

XBConnect supports the 360. System link sort of works between an xbox and an xbox 360 (I've had game-ending sync issues when ghosts were involved, but I haven't tested recently.) I'd imagine it would connect just fine. I don't know if you'll run into any sync issues.

I don't know if I'm totally following what you're saying. The computer and the xbox need to run on the same network. Normally that would involve a cable modem connected to a router, and both the Xbox and PC would also be connected to that same router. Everything should be wired in; it's a bit more complicated if you use wireless. The people on XBC might be able to help you better.

Edit: I played on XBC with the 360 and it worked fine.

My 360 is running XBL off the wireless network from my modem, so does that mean its automatically connected?

If it's working on XBL, it doesn't necessarily mean it will work on XBC. Wireless does not tend to work very well over XBC. I've heard that it works for a very small minority of people, but generally speaking it doesn't work. I don't know if that changes with a 360 or not, but I don't think so. Here are the different setups. http://www.xbconnect.com/index.php?topic=XboxNetwork&menu =Help%20Centre_XboxNetwork The setups show Xboxes, but they should be the same for Xbox 360s. I'm using setup B, but maybe setup E would be more convenient for you. It says Setup E requires a crossover cable, but I believe the 360 is auto-switching. As a result, it may work with a regular patch cable, but I've not heard if that's the case. It might not work. Whatever the case, your 360 is going to need to be plugged into something (whether it's a router, or a computer).

Launch XBC on your PC and login with your username and password. If you haven't done so yet just make a free account. Then find the game you want to play listed on the left pane of the program window (Halo, Halo 2, etc) Click it once and you'll see the list of rooms available for that game listed on the right side. Ignore the buddy list on the far right side and the global chat window below it. It works similarly like a PC server browser. Pick the game on the left and then double click one of rooms to join. That's it.

While all this is going on you simply have to keep the Xbox game on the system link menu. If the room you joined in XBC has a game running it should appear on your Xbox. Just select it and join.

BTW to make things smoother please exit any programs on your PC that uses the internet (web browser, p2p, etc) and make sure any other computers on your network does the same. It's also a good idea to disconnect the global chat room in XBC too because I've heard that can cause lag.

PS the FAQ should answer all your lingering questions.

By the way, prepare to get absolutely man-handled by the hardcore players who've been playing since 2001; I did tonight.

The fastest way to get an edge is by using a timer to get at the OS, camo, rockets and snipers as soon as they spawn.

Hmm i see, i followed your steps and it worked. However my xbox doesnt seem to be connected to it though.

Basically it asked what kind of setup i have, i didnt really know but i picked what i thought was correct. At the end of it, it said it was a PSP, and my console was located. Which is weird because i have a PSP but its batteries arent in. How do i set up my console again?

Turn on Halo and load up the System Link screen. It should be searching for games. In XBC go to Tools -> Options -> General Options. Hit the find button, and it should locate your 360. Also, how do you have everything setup on your network? There are different things to take into consideration. Once it has detected your console, if every server is showing up as FW, you probably have something setup wrong. You may have to forward ports. You may need to adjust firewalls. You may need to use WinPCap, which can be installed when you install (or reinstall) XBConnect. If you already have it, you can check it off in the General Options.
