Alright so after seeing the bio feature on XBL, I was thinking, perhaps we could have this integrated into our profile pages. We have friendslists, gamertags, fileshares and downloads avaliable on the site, so maybe the bio would be equally easy to integrate.

This would do well for drawing the members of the community together and, seeing as it is under XBL's system, offensive messages and so forth would not go unpunished.

Link I made to give an example....

I would love this feature - people like myself could also use it as a makeshift blog/message page where more personal addresses to the community could be made

Comments? Y/N?

Look at your comment, now back to mine. Now back at your comment now back to mine. Sadly it isn't mine, but if you stopped trolling and started posting legitimate comments it could look like mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're scrolling through comments, writing the comment your comment could look like. What did you post? Back at mine, it's a reply saying something you want to hear. Look again the reply is now diamonds.

I think this is a great idea, thank you Pezz.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I still think it would be better as a tab so it doesn't block the background pic. All in all I like the idea. It gives people more of a chance to get some individuality. That is not a bad thing. How many characters would this bio allow?

For once you came up with a good idea instead of spewing nonsense. Don't bother clicking the link; you know what it goes to. ;)

Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL

It just seems like an extended sig to me. But maybe I am missing something?

You say tomato; I say potato.

It's just like a signature that is only viewable on your profile page... right next to your signature.
I think you see where I'm going with this.

I don't mean to thump the sprinkles off your sundae, but your idea needs more direction. Maybe it could be an extended profile info.

[PROFILE NAME]
[E-MAIL]
[HOMEPAGE]
[LIST OF GROUPS]
[MYSPACE/FACEBOOK]
[AGE]
[LOCATION]
[HOBBIES]
I especially like the group list idea.

An extended sig, exactly. A damn large sig.

Not everyone may have a use for it but many do. I would love to be able to fill it with FAQ's and personal info and such. The sig is far, far too small to say anything worth while.

sadly to say it has been done, it's called myspace. Just a few different features have been made.

An extended bio is not the same as myspace. We still can't "trick out" our profile pages with anything except for a background image that we pick from a list.

Since XBL did add the Bio, Name, and Location features, it might be nice to integrate it to BNet.
I would suggest, though, letting users fill the forms out in their profile, and allowing them - as an optional feature - to simply use the information from their gamertag.
For example, I can put a personalized BNet bio, or automatically use the same bio as the one in my gamertag.

Hardly - Myspace revolves around the friendlist -> commenting feature.

The bio would act as further customisation and a better way to build an identity here in the community. I might not have been here for too long in the grand-scheme but I can tell you all that it is the interesting characters which are forever imprinted in the 7th Column.
THAT is the point of the bio - if you don't really want to use it as a utility which lists personal info in order to connect interests with other members.

Seems like a great idea to me though I think you should move it, so as to not block the background image.

Personally, I'd love a slightly more personalizable bio area in my profile. ^_^ I like the idea, honestly. A little space to tell about yourself, other interests, spotlight groups, ect, would be very handy to have. Yes, one could simply put a link to another journal-like (or Myspace) site, but people rarely follow links. Information right at hand is far more likely to be read.

When I saw they finally added a bio to XBL, I was ecstatic. If we got that for Bungie.net....

....

It makes me giddy just thinking about it.

  • 12.07.2007 6:49 AM PDT

Personally I find no use for bios / blogs...but then again, that's me personal opinion. Other people like writing in their blogs or making bios of themselves.

If there was a feature like this, the only thing I would ask for is to disable so I wouldn't have a big gray box in my profile. :p

Edit: Actually if you see it like a personal comment system in your profile, that would be nice. :)

The second that we become anything like myspace/facebook/nexopia its all going to go downhill.

This isnt a place for blogs, this has been told to hundreds of users over the many years, as for bio's, thats just dumb, whats to say, we're all gamers who play the bungie games.
If people want to read our "blogs" or "personal" pages, they can follow the homepage URL that we put up (if we choose) to our myspace or facething..

I think Pezz is going for something more along the lines of what they have on the 360. I small section that you can out your blogs/blurbs. Many people would love to have it. I wouldn't mind it at all seeing how I do not use myspace or facebook. It would give me a place to put a little info about me so I can tell people to look there and to stop asking me a ton of questions about who I am. Sometimes I do not like that at all.

Seeing as we already have the Gamercard on the upper right of the Bungie.Net profile page (which could allow people to link out and visit that person's XBL profile), hmmmmmm.

Unfortunately, you can only see the XBL Bio from the Xbox 360 Dashboard. You can't even edit it from the PC. :(

How about if it was (much like a mouse over of someone's Bungie.Net avatar) that when a viewer moused over the member's XBL avatar, the XBL information popped up like our Bungie.Net mini-profile and sig?

That would be far less intrusive and wouldn't require any dedicated layout or space on the profile page. As long as the information (gamertag, gamerzone, motto, bio, current status, etc.) were "collectible" from XBL in a feed, then I think that the only real problem would be getting the format down correctly. For example, how many people still cannot get their Bungie.Net signatures to fit in the existing popup box?

What if we just increased the popup box size? Say if you mouse-over, you get a BIG popup telling you all about this particular person. I think it's a cool idea, but some people may see it as a nuisance.

All I would ask is that it be VERY simple.
-Maybe a few lines of text (300 characters)
-All one size font, nothing fancy.
-No pictures (Obviously)

PKF, if you could familiarise yourself with the 360 Bio feature, you'd see that's what it's like. Well, not the 300 characters thing, that's way too short for what Pezz has in mind (any many would find useful).

I just thought that 300 would be alot.

If you give too much space its going to take up alot of space on the Profile page.

PKF, if you could familiarise yourself with the 360 Bio feature, you'd see that's what it's like. Well, not the 300 characters thing, that's way too short for what Pezz has in mind (any many would find useful). This paragraph take up only a fraction of the 300 character count. 330 with spaces & 271 without (however you count it)
the count includes my text too.

Thats just in the bio section, you can still add info like Pezz did at the top of his..

Why not something like this? You have a great idea Pezz, but in your image it seems too impractical....well...maybe not impractical, but it just seems like a waste of space. Sure, a lot could be put into it, but then again, do we really need more blogs on the site? I realize your intention is not to post blogs, but i can see that happening in the future.

*Note - Since people kept saying how it took up too much room and you couldn't see the background, I made it a little smaller.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Honestly, I don't really care for the idea Pezz. But this is just by preferance of the people; not to mention there is always the 'if you don't like it don't use it' option. I am fine with it though, since some would love to have this feature. But hey, I'm for it, even if I won't use it, undoubtfully many will. As long as there is a limit to it though. Remember, those that are against it (sorry, can only remember PKF at the moment), if you don't want it, don't use it.
