First off all great story Frank.
Or his name could be referred to Kelly's Heroes. For the older ppl in here that know there classics.
I am in the army too, only in the Dutch army. Anyways, as same as Impurity, whenever we are deployed there must be a certain amount of relaxation otherwise we go nuts. I remember when we were in Bosnia-Herzogovina there were tents placed up for us with alot of tv's and game consoles (can't say xbox because they weren't unfortunatly). Terminus have you ever seen a soldier come home from a day of mine sweeping and picking up limbs of his friends and go home and eat dinner with his wife? No man, he would tear her appart or it would relax him and make him snap. For me personal it helpt a big deal over there.

I'm a Canadian, here to say thanks and keep up the fine work in the Gulf, to all of the armed forces serving overseas right now, and those who have been lucky enough to return. I picked up my xbox, and with it Halo, for the specific reason of stress relief. it has evolved from that since then, but I can say I can understand the soldiers using it for a stress reliever, although I am sure that what I stress over is nothing compared to what they are.
Cheers

I am asking the same. I have been a fan of halo in 4 years. I have made a website, made movies, written articles, hacked, photoshopped, made lan partyes.
I know that the article does not take side, but still. But this war is spreading hate, and anger, i know that. If you doubt me, you doubt 20.000 thousand of my neighbors from all corners of the world. Their hate against the us and our own government here in Denmark has gotten worse in the last couple of years.
Take my post seriosly. Frankie, people spreading hate is not heroes, and not brave. I feel sorry for them, and i want them home.
Thats just my oppinion. a friend of a friend.

Well up until 6 months ago I was living in Camp Monteith, Kosovo, Former Yugoslavia. Every Frriday we would play Halo for about 6 hours. I was there running Teleconferencing Classroom, in which soldiers could be able to talk to their family and friends. The guys from 2-2, 1st Infantry Division and I, had contests. Only pistols, Boarding action with invisble snipers, rockets, we played them all, and loved it. Then right before I left, the base got a X-box Live Connection, and all hell broke loose. It was nearly impossible to be able to get any play time in, and yet that was the most fun I have ever had playing Halo. Now all those guys in 2-2 are out in Iraq, and I still get emails saying how much better they have gotten at Halo, and how they want a rematch with me. Guys, thanks for everything, and keep up the great work you are doing over there.

hey yokanabster let me ask you a question. Who is spreading the hate? The soldiers over there trying to help the Iraqi's who's only thought is to either run for shelter or blow us up, or is it people who think we Americans are a bunch of low down dirty scumbags who just want to make money and gain more power?

First, of all He [Frankie] did not make this game political. Just by being a soldier an playing this game does not spread hate. Secondly, the article is about how un-life like the game is, and how soldiers use it to escape from their reality [of seeing their friends die, of the hate, the heat, and just life in general] for awhile. I seriously doubt, that the armed forces are going to start putting up HALO recruitment posters. Christ, they have had X-boxs on military bases for 3yrs now, its nothing new. Thirdly, you are reading into it too much. The article is shows how anyone can enjoy HALO. By asking that question, YOU made it political, not FRANKIE. Fourthly, most of the military did not want to invade Iraq, they wanted to stay home with their families, its the politicians that chose that route. The military are just following orders of their leaders, just like you do what your parents tell you, or how I follow the orders of my work manager. Finally, soldiers dont think that way. They dont say to each other, "You know now that we have slaughtered this village lets go play some HALO!" No, they usually go sit in their rooms for 2-3 hours contemplating what they have done, until their Sargeant sees them, and he gets them to call their wife, talk to a chaplain, or play Soccer, Darts, Pool, or HALO, to get their minds off of their jobs. Please don't bring these kind of statement into a Halo Forum again.
Inclosing, I would like to say, "Nice job Frankie!"

Do you really care about how much attention you or your troop gets? If it were me, I would want less attention. A lot of people are pretty mad at our soldiers for going out there and fighting, but you guys in Kuwait are still helping our country and no one is getting mad at you for it. Be grateful for where you are.

i never bring up this war because there is no one right opinion. it shouldnt have been necessary, but it was necessary. however, to bring up anti-war sentiment in a thread that is celebrating a small piece of happiness in the lives of people who are far away from their homes in constant mortal danger is simply uncalled for. many of these soldiers are there because they enlisted to pay for college. or because they couldn't find a job or for any number of other reasons that dont have expressly to do with their political beliefs. there's nothing wrong with having an opinion, one way or another, but this is a completely inappropriate place to do anything but convey positive sentiments about soldiers.

@Rasterburn:

Thank you for your sound arguments. I was hoping for a more intelligent response than soundbites from a movie which is about the ugliness of war.

Which is what my post is about really. I actually think war is a very serious thing. It's not about "kicking some butt" or "mopping up", it's about people getting killed every day. War is a political thing, especially this one.

By putting up an article about how Halo makes life easier for soldiers in this war, I think Frankie actually does make a political statement. I just don't understand why somebody from Bungie would want to do that, hence my question.

Please don't imply I said anything good or bad about soldiers, because I didn't. I just visited my most favorite game site ever, read an article which I think shouldn't be on this site and landed myself in a discussion which none of us can win.
