Hello Frankie.
Jeremy Hall here, from Thornton CO. Congratulations on the success of Halo 3! After reading the update, & browsing the forums, I wanted to post a few online suggestions:
It would be nice to have a spell check on the forum, I count on it usually, and it's a good tool to keep young people learning. Also I would like to upload my own crystal skulls pic that I have used for years. The resources on this website are pretty amazing, & I would have liked to have known about them sooner. I've wasted months searching for good custom games, to be taken back, when I looked through some of them online here! And to find out, it would have been better to just wait a few months, for this new foundry!
Custom Games: So much fun, so impossible to run. I'm an indpendant gamer, and take & toss online friends daily. It's really difficult to get a room together. When I finally do, all I hear is wa wa wa wa from all the jr gamers. Because I host the room, I'm suddenly responsible for all the content, & suggestions for that content. The luster of these great games, is quickly dimmed on most occasions, by the difficulty of running them. Or the frustration of trying to find a room, with a competent host. My suggestion is to provide group linking to random custom games. I was frankly suprised when I first put in Halo, and could not auto find a gamer for these game types & campaign. A play at your own risk, "community content, not bunjie tested" circut would be amazing. Of course there would need to be quality checks. That brings me to my next suggestion, which would enable such a gametype. Forum managability for custom games. It's really tough to identify exactly which custom games are for how many people, & their level of action, etc. A forum post suggested a "fill in" of pertinent data for each game, just like the creation process, too tedious. Instead a special "maps & gametypes" submission forum, with specialized in-submission box checkboxes may work. How about 4 questions (after submitting by type of game): optimum # of gamers, Gamer tested & how much....etc. Basically something that qualifies submissions, so that submissions can at the least find better organization within the forum, with links to type & game together, within more comprehensive peramiters. THEN, a vote system, that brings favorite, most quality gametypes to the top. Then the monthly top 100 or just 10 games & types could be locked in for a temporary playlist (x amount of player vetos would be a great que to take that game out of the circut). Or mabye just available in the Bungie favorites, (which is so painfully limited). I could choose custom games and have 2 or 3 choices to get in to the matchmaking: under so many players, over so many players. And the ensuing game would be completely random. Talk about taking advantage of all these independant gamers ideas & games. OH, with the current system in place, I at the very least need to be able to invite people more efficiently into custom rooms. I cannot build a party in btb because my party leadership is not guaranteed. Right now, I would like to group spam invites, just like I may a message, to my recently played w/ players & friends. Having to play btb for an hour, just to get fresh invite power is really weaksauce. And I'm not going to join a clan full of jr gamers.
Ranked: Ranked big team battle sounds just wonderfull. I'm thankful the lone wolves is 6 players now, I thought I would never get overkill. Not enjoying having to play tactical games in my lone wolves slayer area though. Played some new games, like hammers, etc, lots of fun. At first, I tossed the veto at every shotty snipe game, & now I miss it. I just was not good enough yet, to enjoy that gametype. Mabye one in 10-20 games is a good ratio. I'm stalled on rank, because I'm a support type / defensive player, we can't all be triple majors, I guess. I wonder if these various connection problems affect my play, or if the players are simply better than me.
The limited levels are a big problem. My favorite gametype is not in my favorite level. A link to ranked medals chests online would be super duper amazing. Also what am I missing?!!!?!?!!?!?
Fees & new maps charge: This is a big dissapointment. I have objected to buying new maps, ever since I bought the GRAW 1 update package. It ruined my game experience, and Graw was not fun anymore until 2 came out. I've never paid for anything like that again. When you buy additional product, you are cut off from casual gamers, usually the majority of gamers, and most likely, many of your favorite gamer friends. Didn't Bungie make 140 million in sales the opening week? I actually EXPECTED free levels. This talk of buying maps has me seriously considering moving on to another game a lot earlier than expected. It's an insult to me as a consumer, I already bought the product, you should warranty it's usefull life. When corporations upcharge me, I loose confidence in them. Even if I do buy that product of the day, they loose me as a permanent customer. If I have to pay for new maps now, I'll have to pay for them on halo wars, and then more for 3, etc, etc. The utility features of the 360 are being exploited by profiteers, and not explored by inventors. I'm just not into paying extra. If you knew how poor we are... How about if these maps are going to cost money, you could mabye get me a free copy of them? Now I'm a beggar, see how it sucks? Actually I'm a certified real estate appraiser in Colorado. I work for myself, build & manage my own computers, have reliable connections, and don't answer to a boss. I'm pissed that my favorite passtime is trying to upcharge me. It's hearts and minds guys, not skulls & bones. I starting to think Bungie is just another company in a long line of increasingly greedy, self serving companies, to upcharge for one of the most successfull 360 products to date. I'm sorry, I'm off track, thinking about taking money out of my pocket to enjoy something I thought was permanent, puts me in a sour mood. I really do like Halo 3, and wanted to be a long-term gamer, but this might change things. I'm not interested in being part of some extra-classy, elite section of gamers who have paid for the maps, I want to be in the majority, and not feel shafted.
Wow, now I'm really off track, but I guess I've got a few suggestions, & comments across. Please pass my comments up the line, if you feel they have merit.
Thank you again,
Jeremy W Hall
actually, I'm going to post this as a comment, mabye it's the popular vote that counts here?
